CBS Interactive (GameSpot parent company) buys Giant Bomb

He says that there was a new managerial team in place (that weren't used to editorial staff) after Greg Kasavin left for EA, and they were trying to implement a new scoring system. Jeff wanted to give the editors more control with this scoring system. He was editorial director at the time.

He says that the new review system made it so that the average score was below a point.

There were problem with a Ratchet and Clank review, because there was ads for the game on the site. This was one of the things that built up problems, even though Jeff didn't review it.

This exact thing happened again with the infamous Kane and Lynch review, where there was threat to pull ads from the site, which happens quite often according to Jeff.

The team wasn't used to dealing with these issues (the managerial staff) and Jeff was pulled into these "crazy. intense" meetings, even where there were "threats" thrown at him.

It blew over a bit after the review, according to Jedd, until, out of the blue, Jeff was called in after Thanksgiving to be terminated, because they "couldn't trust him in the role." Jeff says they were doing what they were supposed to be doing.

Jeff says that every media outlet wanted part of the story, and they wanted to find "dirt" on Gamespot, even though Jeff says there wasn't any there.

Jeff says that it's "crazy" that all Gamespot's good PR was destroyed basically due to poor managerial decisions, or at least that's what caused the situation.

Jeff says the editorial team has/had a lot of great bunch of people, and he missed working with them every day.

God I hope Jeff will be on On the Spot sometimes.

They could have squashed this bug years ago, it didn't have to "kill" gamespot.

So, essentially the managerial team that caused the shitstorm back in 2007 is no longer with Gamespot. Right? Thus Jeff feels confident it won't happen happen.

Jeff says that there is no issue with Gamespot. He says he wouldn't be talking right now On the Spot if he wasn't. He sees that Gamespot understands how video game websites should be run.

He says that he understands why some people would be worried about them joining Gamespot, but he insists he wouldn't be here if there was a problem.

He says that Alex Navarro snuck him a debug Xbox to help him get on his feet so he can play some stuff, Ryan hooked him up with Dave Snyder.

Can't see the stream because I'm off to work. So, what's Jeff's "official" explanation?

The firing didn't happen overnight and it was basically poor management that was new to the business and buckled from publisher pressure. He's upset that it ruined Gamespot's reputation for editorial integrity and honesty, even though there was nothing wrong with Gamespot.

For those looking for Jeff to "name names", it's a moot point. ZERO of those people are even in the same industry anymore.

Interesting. Still a little wary of all this, but that makes this move make a lot more sense.

Jeff says that their audience basically is what makes their site so great. "We have their back, and they have ours."

Jeff says that the GB community "has some questions." Mainly about premium memberships and junk. They're not going to combine the two sites. Jeff wants GB to "become a better version of Gianbomb." More dumb stuff with the green room.

"...even bigger, even weirder....across the board, we want to make a better website."

Jeff says it would make sense for some people to come over, like how Vinny has nobody at the GB office likes Dark Souls. They're not trying to homogenize it though.

Gamespot wants to learn from what GB is doing.

Swearing is fucking in.
M-Rated games are fucking covered, so they're going to fucking curse, since it's damn mature fucking content.

Everything will be the same till April 15th, when they'll split from the other Whiskey Media sites, besides Comic Vine.
