I was just thinking that. Is Christer just a regular name in Norway? Like Christopher? If it's not, then yeah... the kid should get a name change.

To answer the OP's question, yes, the Sonic character is very, very popular with little kids around the world. On par with Spongebob, Mickey Mouse, or Mario.
