Civilization 6 announced, out October 21st

Is there a good primer to get into these games? I've always tried but never had any clue what I was doing when playing with friends.

This video seems to be popular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I__9ZlOUG4E

Some of the details may change a bit when it comes to Civ 6, but the above video is going to at least get you an understanding of what's going on.

Though, you're going to just have to spend some time in the game to really understand all of the complexities. Luckily, it's Civ so "just one more time" comes pretty easily. :)

Yeah, but US gets:

-Founding Fathers (increased government legacy gains or something idk)
-Film Studio
-Rough Riders
-P51
-Tourism bonus from National Parks

So that's 5 to 4. Might be that they're just not bothering to match the numbers?

Art imitates life!
Should have been P47. Pilots found it much more durable, so you would survive more. The P51 was more maneuverable, but its key asset was its better range so it could cover bombers. Unless that better range is reflected, they should have put in the p47.

Thanks! The wording for the pre-order is certainly strange. You can read both it will be paid dlc or free update civ.

Not sure how the following can be misinterpreted any other way
Aztec Civilization Pack will be available at launch as an exclusive pre-order item for 90 days, after which the content will be made available at no additional charge to all players of the game.

Watching some of those new preview vids, when speaking to Cleopatra, either the lip sync is way off or the lips are matching the English words as opposed to the vocal Egyptian (I assume) which is very distracting

I cant get over how bad this looks in comparison to V, specially the UI. That being said, gameplay department seems fantastic.

You know what I want in Civ 6? Canal Districts or some sort of Canal Great Wonder for my cities. I love playing naval warfare, and its always a pain when I want to play on a continent, but there are no good canal spots, and even more frusturating when there is a spot that would be perfect, if only for the fact that it was 2 spaces instead of 1.

I wrote up my impressions based on the 150-turn demo. Video and interview with the art director is forthcoming.

I'll also answer some questions within the restrictions of my NDA.

Thanks for the impressions.

1. Some previews have mentioned that you get a passive bonus for staying with the same government type for a prolonged period of time (even as you switch out policies). Can you talk a little about that? What kind of bonus is it?

2. My understanding is that each AI will have one unique, permanent agenda and one hidden, randomized one. Were you able to identify any AI's hidden agenda? Is this something the AIs will state very clearly during play?

3. Which new feature are you most excited about?

watching the firaxis stream at the moment, and man, that looks sooooo ugly. It looks like an iOS game, not Civ :(

I'm by no means crazy for good graphics. But this looks really bad. All the menus are gigantic and so full of colors , meh. Really disappointed. I hope I get used to that or that it's some insane low resolution they play it at. I'm only talking about the visuals, the gameplay changes are very welcome and I can't wait to try it.

1. Depends on the government. Of the early three - Autocracy, Oligarchy, and Classical Republic - each has a stable benefit, a certain number of card slots for policies, and the passive bonus that grows.

In the case of Classical Republic: 2 economic policy slots, 1 diplomatic slot, 1 wild card slot, a fixed bonus to amenity with an city with a district, and a bonus to great people point generation that grew over time. The longer I stayed with Classical Republic, the higher the percentage of that latter bonus.

This also fed into legacy bonuses, which I assume are passive bonuses that are carried forward once you switch governments, but I'm not entirely sure.

2. I was not able to identify any of the hidden agendas, because I didn't progress down the diplomacy path far enough. This actually screwed me later in my game because Victoria dropped a spy in my major city and I couldn't do anything about it.

3. Honestly, as a fan of Endless Legend, unstacking the cities is probably my biggest one. It also seems far less rigid than EL, because the way districts worked in that game forced you to build your cities in certain configurations to maximize district size.

I'm also a fan of the change in workers. I always would have huge groups of worker lying around, but under the new system, workers go away after three charges. This means, workers have to become a part of your city work flow.

Well, I don't know whether the aztecs will be the only free civ or it will be the norm. I mean, the text is clear for the pre-order, but it doesn't clarify the general business model for me.

Trade route/road/worker stuff sounds great. I've loved the way Civ5 handled trade routes, bringing a tangible aspect to economies. And of course the unstacked cities--was always the best idea from Endless Legend and Elemental.

Based on what you've played, do you think smaller, island-based cities will be viable at all, or would you need a sizeable amount of hexes to make the city worthwhile?

Hey guys. I think I know the next Civilization...Canada.

If you go to the Polygon.com 52 minutes of Civ 6. You can see the city "Toronto" at the 11:44 mark of the Video (link below).

Can't wait for this game to come out now.

EDIT: maybe not..could be a city state...which would suck as I would love to have my country/civ in the game finally.

You might be able to survive with an island-based city for a single colony, but you need some space for multiple cities. Also, I found it was much easier to get the cities up-and-running by sending them a steady supply of workers from my main city.

Has anyone posted the theme song yet?

I know it was played at a concert a couple of weeks ago, right? I'm surprised they haven't released a video yet :/

I think it's a city-state. Has the same border colour as two other cities on the minimap; Jerusalem and Brussels. (Notice how the player and Egypt have their own, distinctive colours that pop out more.) Not to mention the same bronzed city label.

Thanks.

After I asked, it occurred to me that it would probably be identical to older Civs where you need to specialise your techs to get the most out of water hexes (and now, the limited space).

The worker change will be very interesting. I'm hoping you can make giant trade empires effectively... that's really my favourite thing in Civ.

This is a megaton.

Thanks for the answers! I'm glad to hear that district placement felt flexible.

How did you feel about the more aggressive barbarians? You mention you were not initially prepared for them and they gave you a pretty persistent problem until you'd pumped out your samurai.

My aunt was part of the choir touring with Christopher Tin, he only just recorded it after that concert performance in London. I asked her what the new theme was like and if it held up compared to Baba Yetu and she said yes, it is amazing.

It started off real slow. I saw a scout. Though nothing of it. Then they just consistently started pounding me. And while I rocked just my Warriors for a long time, the barbarians were getting crazy with it: warriors, sling-users, and catapults. They wouldn't directly attack my city center, but they would pillage improvements and districts.

And they took one of my Great People, a general. (I had the General and Galileo.) I eventually got him back when I completed my samurai.

Like I said, I could've avoided most of this by taking iron working early on.

Hype rising.....I hope they release the song early.

I was lucky enough to get to have a brief chat with Christopher Tin when I went to see the first show of that mini UK tour, so I asked him about what it was like coming back to compose for the franchise - he said the theme of this track is about flight; he got inspired by the Civ quote you get when you discover flight "For once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return". He also mentioned that he wasn't given much time to work with - 3 weeks, 1 week of which he spent working on something that, seven days in, his partner just walked into the room and shook her head at, haha. So he came up with something else.

I'd definitely like to see some way to give ships more room to move around as well.

One of the things I spotted in this Gamespot video is that each City State appears to provide a unique bonus, so Zanzibar provides a unique luxury to friends that you can't earn any other way, while Geneva will boost research to 15% if you're friends with them but not at war with anyone else.

A cool edition I think, City States felt like a fairly dry addition to me in Civ V, this adds more flavour to them

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
I wonder if I should buy the Digital Deluxe, the inclusive DLC is tantalizing.

So impressions is that the game is good, and a nice fresh take on the franchise?

Wow, I loved Civ 4/5 but the artstyle is probably gonna make me skip this game. Looks like some clash of clans free to play game.
