Best sports movie ever

Sorry Rudy

This makes the 21 meaningless game win streak seem so much more important.

in a sport where even the best teams lose 70+ times a year it's pretty remarkable to rattle off 21 in a row. If the Indians dropped 4 out of their next 5, nobody would really bat an eye. But if they did that in the postseason everyone would call them chokers.

There's a team that technically has a 26 game streak, but they had a tie game in the middle of that streak so it's bullshit.

That "tie" game was called because of weather and was not recorded as an official game. 26 win streak stands.

Just a note, the following Indians have been on the disabled list for the entire streak:

Jason Kipnis, 2B, All-Star
Michael Brantley, OF, All-Star
Andrew Miller, RP, All-Star

They have been replaced by these players that you have likely never heard of:
Giovanny Urshela (via JRamirez moving to 2B)
Greg Allen, OF
Tyler Olson, RP

Damn! Replacement guys getting the job done.

GO TRIBE.

Basically our worst starting pitcher is going out tomorrow. If the streak is going to end, tomorrow is most likely when it will happen.

the record is 21

that Giants streak was 12 wins, then a tie, then 14 more wins

neither of which is even in the top 25 actual winning streaks of all time

Unlike football or hockey a tie game in baseball has no implication whatsoever on the standings, it's effectively no different than a game that was called before 5 innings were played. Games ending in ties were fairly common in the old days of baseball because teams didn't start installing lights until the 30s-40s and could not be played to completion if the score was tied when it got dark out, usually when this happened the game would be re-played to a decision later or just ignored entirely if it had no implication on the pennant race, either way the Giants' 26 game winning streak should still count as such

As long as they still use Chief Wahoo on their uniforms and caps ffffffuck Cleveland forever. I hope they lose in the playoffs.

It doesn't count as such and nobody believes it does.

It's considered the longest unbeaten streak. Because that's exactly what it is. They didn't lose any games, but they didn't win them all either. That's just an objective fact, regardless of excuse for why it would have been called a draw.

unbeaten streak != winning streak.

it's steadily coming off. worry not.

The game didn't count, it doesn't exist. There are no ties in baseball. If the game didn't count in the standings it's not a game. Again, it's no different than if the Indians next game was rained out after a couple of innings and was postponed or cancelled. That wouldn't be considered the end of their winning streak.

Yep, as a matter of fact the tie game between the Giants and Pirates was made up the next day as part of a double header which the Giants swept. The rules were later changed so that games suspended due to weather or darkness would be resumed where they left off rather than replayed in their entirety. If this had been the case at the time the tie game and the make up game would have counted as the same game and we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

As a diehard Tribe fan, Wahoo is a fucking disgrace and embarrassment and his death can't come soon enough.

That said, this is the most fun I've had watching an Indians team since 1995. Tito is a god.

On the one hand, congrats to this team. Great accomplishment.

On the other hand, I was at the A's 20th game in a row in 2002 and still have my stub ;_;
