Angina (chest pain) is not completely uncommon, so don't freak out just yet. You're doing the right thing going to the doctor, so hopefully you'll be fine. I will pray for you.

I was having chest "discomfort" a few weeks ago (I definitely wouldn't describe it as "pain") and I was 2 seconds from calling 9-1-1 after doing some Googling. It was after I did some "Insanity" (I've been doing it for a week weeks after getting bored with P90X)

I was 60% it was angina (or something similar) and 40% that I was about to have a heart attack. lol It was definitely scary but since I wasn't in pain, I just waited for it to go away. Plus I'm only 27, never had a heart condition and have no family history of heart problems, so I figured that I'd be OK.

OP, since you say it's in your family, it's good that you're getting it checked out. It's probably nothing, but still....it's wise to get some professional advise. Best of luck! :)

Hopefully nothing serious. I only had Heartburn myself that goes away almost right away with some antacid but it doesn't sound like the same you're experiencing about it feeling force/pressure on your chest. Good luck with the doctor's exam.

I've had a similar type of health scare before. had EKG, sonogram and stress test done. wound up being just severe heartburn and anxiety.

good luck on the exam and in the meantime avoid caffeine and cigarettes (if u smoke)

I've been wanting to go to the doctor to get myself checked out but I don't have insurance and I can't afford it. I think I'm actually more afraid of being in debt than I am of dying.

I actually get mild chest pains pretty regularly, but never for days on end. As far as I can tell, mine is related to surgery for pectus excavatum (big hole in your chest) I had when I was a kid. They really rearranged my chest so it's not exactly normal. But I have anxiety about heart stuff anyway so it's annoying to have to always tell myself that it's not anything serious (and no, it really isn't anything serious, I've been checked out).

This is sad on so many levels, but I can understand it in a way. American health system is really some criminal shit. You really have my sympathy.

Did it happen after you lifted something heavy? Could be a pulled muscle. Girlfriend had costochondritis from that.

Or just heartburn.

Does the pain radiate to your shoulder / down your arm at all?

Do you have any history of acid pain or GERD?

I had a similar issue about 5 years ago and had to go to the hospital when I thought it was a heart attack. They didn't perform an EKG and just decided to say 'pericarditis' while putting me on steroids for two weeks. Then I checked in with my University Doctor who quickly identified it as GERD (while getting me a free EKG).

I paid $2,000 for the dumb doctors but you can never be sure so I vote go see someone.

You may have heart disease, it kinda depends on a few different factors - what does your poop taste like? If it's more sweet and fruity than earthy, you may want to see a doctor to get checked out.

Have you fallen lately? It could be costochondritis. I fell on my front side at work around Christmas and a couple months later I was having chest pains so I went to the doctor and found out that my rib cartilage was inflamed.

Yep. I had this and I had these bad chest pains. Went to the doc and that's what it was. It eventually cleared up.

To OP: Could also be acid reflux. The pain doesn't have to be just in your stomach/throat.

I had heart failure (dilated cardiomyopathy due to viral myocarditis) a few years ago, had flu-like symptoms and went to a doctor and they put me on antibiotics. Once I started breathing very heavily and quickly, went into an ER and was shipped to an advanced hospital asap (from small town). If I hadn't gone in I might have died.

If it feels serious, go the ER. Heart issues aren't something play with.

For about the last 5 days I've had this constant, mild chest pain. I'm only 25 so I just ignored it for the first few days but now I'm starting to worry. I called my doc today and told them about it. They wanted me to go to the ER but i said I'd rather not so I have an appointment at the doc office in about an hour. I'm pretty nervous right now. My Gpa died of heart failure and my dad has had heart issues for awhile.

If its something serious forget pinching pennies and go to the ER. Esp if it seems that its a potential issue that runs in the family.

Better use money to get yourself checked up, than money being used because you "checked out".

It's basically impossible to not freak out at least a little bit about chest pain, believe me I know. But don't worry, there are SO many benign shitty things that can cause it. Costochondritis, as mentioned, is your most likely bet here. But it is definitely still best to get it checked out.

With anxiety/panic attacks, sometimes you get a racing heart beat and a feeling of tightness in your chest. I've never had my chest actually hurt during a panic attack. I'm not saying it isn't a symptom or that no one gets chest pain during a panic attack, but I am saying that writing it off as a panic attack is not smart.

Had this a few years ago. Had an ECG, chest scans etc but nothing came up. My doc reckons it was anxiety. With chest pains one always thinks the worse. Just remember it's not likely to be your heart, especially if it's been five days.

Hope all is well. It can be very scary.

I went through this a couple of years back. It ended up being my diet. I was having bad chest pains, especially at night when I was laying down. I went to the ER and had tests done. They even as a precaution had me visit a heart specialist. All of this at 30 years of age.

I hope it's nothing serious and something that can be changed with diet or medicine. At least it will put your mind at ease and help lessen the anxiety of it occurring.

Yeah, that happens, stress and anxiety can do some crazy stuff to you and it can look like the worst case scenario if you don't know any better. A few years ago my mom had a stress/anxiety STROKE. She had all the symptoms of a stroke so we rushed her to the hospital, couldn't move her legs at all and could barely lift her hands, she couldn't speak, her face was doing the entire drooping thing on one side. It was awful, I thought she was literally dying or would be like that for the rest of her life. They did various scans and nothing came up other than minor stuff, there was no damage done at all, and it was finally ruled to be stress and anxiety. A day or two later she went back to normal, other than it having scared her and the rest of us to death. She changed a few things, took a break and people stopped going to her with problems, and she was back to her normal self in no time.

I didn't even know it could express itself in the form of a stroke until that happened to her.

I hope all comes out just fine for you OP!

I've been going through this for about 9 months. Doctor says it isn't heart or gerd so I've more or less accepted that its anxiety. Just comes and goes randomly. I run 3-5 miles every day and it doesn't get worse. I guess it could be a muscular problem but I'm tired of going to doctors at this point.

could be stess. i went to the er last year because my chest was hurting and my heart was going a million miles a minute. was also having severe headaches constantly. doctor told me i had the stress levels of a 40+ year old man... i was 24.

best of luck to you, hope everything turns out alright.

i've had mysterious chest pain for the past 2 years or so, and sometimes i can feel mild pain in my left arm as well.. it's fucking annoying because it's so mild that i don't feel like going to a doctor about it. sometimes it's so mild i can barely feel it, so i think it's probably nothing. all in my head or something. psychosomatic whatever.

i'm well aware i might be just fooling myself and i might die any moment.

Get it checked out. Good chance its nothing serious at all, but you should make sure.

I had it before, even with the arm pain/discomfort, and it was just anxiety and/or acid reflux.

well it thinks it may be either acid reflux or an lung infection. he got me on some meds and wants be check check back in on friday

Mild pain isn't a huge worry, but if you ever get chest pain or tightness plus sharp, shooting pain down your left arm or up the left side of your neck, go get checked for a myocardial infarction right away.

I'm also 25 and all my random heart pains have gone away by holding my breath and doing nothing!

do you get these chest pains after eating? this happened to me 1 week ago and then i had a bunch of stomach problems. i've been taking prilosec for the last 5 days and i feel pretty good now. although that chest pain sensation only happened once and it went away after i threw up.

I had this once when I was 29 or so. Turns out it was absolutely nothing.

Yup.

I'm 25 and the past year or so I have had stuff like this happening. I worried constantly which caused anxiety and depression for awhile. Went to Doc and ER multiple times, every time I was in great health they told me, nothing wrong. I had bad heart burn apparently, they gave me that cocktail mix at the ER and within 5 mins I was feeling better. Hope you're just fine OP, remember chest pain/discomfort could be a lot of things.

i had chest pains from anxiety because i'd worried about heart problems. keep an open mind. the body responds to what you're thinking, and can sometimes mimic your fears if you are always worrying.

Wish I had seen this earlier...pain from heart attacks don't tend to last days on end...

i get heartburn all the time but this feels more like a pressure or force on my chest

Is it specifically your heart? I had something similar like three weeks ago but didn't go to a doctor. Had slight trouble breathing and my left arm was slightly numb but I pushed through the last few hours of work I had despite it. Kinda freaky now that I think about it but I didn't think it warranted a trip to the hospital until either I collapsed or died.

I woke up one morning with a sharp stabbing pain on the inside of my left shoulder (near my chest). Strangely, I only felt it when I was lying on my left side or when I was standing up straight. If I stood hunched, sat, or lied down any other way I was just fine. The pain lasted about 3 hours. I ended up seeing a doc a week later and he brushed it off, saying it was probably just acid reflux.

Damn. You go to the ER if you have chest pain. It's a priority. I hope you feel better but don't put that stuff off.

I had chest pain 4x in 1mos, and went to the emergency room each time, had no insurance, they took me immediately and in the end I didn't have to pay anything. (and yes I live in the US)

I had similar symptoms to the OP (I'm about the same age) and went in to my regular doctor. He did an EKG which was fine and figures it's just heart burn. I'm trying to control it by eating better and taking tums instead of the prilosec (or whatever) he recommended. We'll see how that goes.

Always get chest pain checked out though. Always. Just don't panic and make it worse.

Yea, thats not typical at all. Most people will end up with $5000+ in medical bills after doing something like that with no insurance.

Its good to go to the ER if youre seriously worried but 4 times in a month points to irrational panic more than being smart.

I've had various chest pains and heart palpitations for years. Doctor says that unless I get lightheaded or short of breath when these things happen, it's nothing to worry about. Several ECGs have all come back normal. Sometimes your chest just hurts. Definitely get it checked ASAP, though.
