Corpse Party |OT| You thought your high school was hell

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Thank you. Honestly though, how do you guys know to do this? I mean, its just so random and obscure.

Since there's no FAQs yet, I relied on Youtube playthoughs (though heavily incomplete) and Xseed's forums. :p

wow picked this up last night. Got to chapter 2. These 'wrong end' scenes are really nicely done. They go on a bit longer than you like, which works really well.

Wish some of the controls was a bit better though. And 'avoid the baddie' sequences are pretty bad due to crap controls. But the AI are pretty dumb, which kinda kills the tension =/

This game is also pretty unplayable during daytime. Ghosting is also horrible (psp 2000). The world is a blur when I walk T_T.

I'm honestly thinking of picking this up. Not going to lie, the "ass cream" part a few pages back pushed this up to a potential must buy, same thing happened with 999's elevator scene.

Chapter 5 has some awesome BGMs
Not only that but Chapter 5 is epic simply for how impactful certain decisions turn out to be...

Go down one path and Ayumi & Naomi are embroiled in a love triangle spat over Satoshi while little Yuka is being mercilessly tortured. Go down another and we have gags aplenty with period jokes, hide the soiled panties gags and flashbacks where Yuka nibbles on her brother.

At least everyone gets to appreciate the breast fondling reference. That doesn't appear to be optional.

Help at Chapter 5

Where can I find Sachiko? I got her tongue already.

Oh man so fucking sad. Seikkoooo

Picked this up on a whim on Thanksgiving. Didn't know anything about it before hand nor was I hyped, but I finally looked @ topic and hearing its JP audio + being a horror adventure = win.

Playing this now. It's funny, I've been REALLY down on wordy Japanese games lately, especially with Dark Souls and its "we aren't going to waste your time with pointless babbling" rule, but I'm really enjoying Corpse Party and its copious amounts of text.

Part of it I think is that everything is voiced, which really helps, but man... there's just something engrossing about this game. I love the fact that it has no hesitation about being brutal, as it really adds to the tension about what's going to happen next.

However, it also contains some really dumb stereotypical horror story/video game moments that are a little frustrating. Look, I know that you
have to pee
, but let's not make a big deal out of it! You go over there, I'll turn my back, and you can do what you need to do without all of the drama and the constant "let's split up and allow bad things to happen" going on.

One thing though it glitched one of the student ID tags at the end of Chapter 5 with prevented me from 100%ing the ID collection.
Looked it up on the Japanese wiki and examined the corpses where it said it was and getting it was a no go.

Any luck tracking this final nametag down yet?
Seems like the folks over on the XSEED forums are all stumped on this one as well.

Incidentally, I think it's astoundingly awesome that this game's PSP sequel effectively rips off the premise of the Final Destination movies and works it into the Corpse Party canon.
Should make for a fun ride if Book of Shadows makes its way over to English-speaking audiences in some form.

Chapter 3 question:

So the hallway with the door to the second wing has opened up, but the door is locked. I've been over the entire school available to me several times, but haven't seen a key or anything else that will let me progress. What am I missing?

I used my free $5.99 Video Unlimited credit to pick this one up. At $20 I was a bit iffy, but for $14 I figured it was worth the risk.

Attention XSEED Games: Please subtitle the opening CG animations in the future. Kthxbai

UberTag and InfiniteNine: I'm looking into the name tag issue. I'll get back to you when I figure out what's going on with it, but in the meantime, if any of you find that name tag, please let me know. It should be mixed in with a pile of rubble inside the girls' lavatory during the escape sequence at the end of chapter 5, but the lavatory seems to have been rendered inaccessible for some reason...

Hosanna: Try smashing the cabinet in classroom 1-A with the Nail Puller. I believe that's what you need to do, anyway -- though I'm just recalling this off-hand, so I might be off by a chapter or two. ;)

Unknown Soldier: We took a vote on that in the office, and it seems the majority of us felt that song subtitles would detract from the opening visuals. Besides, it's basically a jpop song... do you REALLY want to know what they're singing? I mean, have you read the lyrics to jpop songs before? ;)

What's Mini DV "Sin" used for?

wyrdwad looks like the one missing is from
the pool of dead corpses Ayumi falls into near the end of Chapter 5.
Pretty much nailed it down to that checking with the wiki by making sure it by confirming the locations of the other St. Mary Anne's students and it simply doesn't trigger. I actually kinda remember that when examining it for the first time too.

Most people who watch fansubbed anime are used to everything being subtitled, including the OP and ED songs. So yes, I've seen many jpop song lyrics. They aren't any better, and frequently worse, then any western pop song lyrics.

I suppose it could be considered progress that Atlus and you guys even leave the jpop song there in the first place, unlike Sega who replace the song entirely with some other random song without words.

Infinite Nine: I don't think that's it. The one everyone seems to be missing is Takuya Nishimura, and that particular name tag is NOT located where you've described.

See this topic for details:

There's one user, PeckingBird, who claims he found it in the English version and will be uploading a video to YouTube shortly. I'm really hoping he did, too -- though I certainly don't recall it being THAT difficult to find in the Japanese version of the game...

Well it's the only part that matches up with me the bodies listed for the school for that chapter on Japanese guides anyways but that was for the PC version. I recall not being able to go into any of the rooms that weren't the floor trap rooms in the escape though.

Yeah, PC version name tags differ a bit from the PSP version. I'm pretty sure that's the one you're missing.

Let's see what PeckingBird found!

chapter 3 help.

Am a bit lost. last thing I did was either going to girls bathroom and the sis says she can't go or unlock infirmary. Now I'm just wondering. Did I miss some item/key that will let me progress?

Checking my notes, it looks like you'll find the item you need on the 2F-3F stairwell.

Also, how do you do spoiler tags on this board? :)

Thank you. Honestly though, how do you guys know to do this? I mean, its just so random and obscure.

I'm not finding any of it to be confusing or obscure thus far, though There's still plenty of time for it to get much worse. Just gotta search obvious things and keep them in memory, the play areas are just about the right size so backtracking and double checking isn't annoying.

getting past that ghost in that tight room after you turned the pulley on was
really infuriating though

Not a problem if
Yui-sensei gave them the power crystal.

Son of a bitch, I assume it's an alternate ending to do it the other way though? Or maybe not. I forgot to save my first pass at chapter two so I would up having her keep the crystal since the item text mentioned protecting the owner and figured maybe shed get less squished. Fat chance of that though, ORDER ONE AT 19.95 AND GET THREE ADDITIONAL FOR FREE, RESULTS MAY VARY, SHINY CRYSTAL NOT TO BE USED AS DEFENSE AGAINST AN ARMOIRE

Yeah, it's pretty much a
one-hit nullifier for a DIRECT touch/attack from a ghost. I assume them using furniture to smash you negates that.
No alternate ending for doing it your way though.

Haha, when I posted that I was sitting at the pulley waiting to fail again, then you tell me the right way and I go back to get my death over with and I manage to get past him, figures.

One thing maybe I'm not getting abut the narrative is that I thought blue spirits were supposed to be kind, maybe that only applies to the wisp like ones, but the one that attacks Naomi in the infirmary was a red/black. Maybe it's something I missed, maybe I'm giving it too much thought or maybe it's cleared up later

Blue ones are friendly and ones that have a red tinge are malicious in nature. That particular one is explained much later though.

I'm trying to install this game to my CFW PSP using Media Go, but it requires a firmware update on the system to allow me to do so. I have 639 Pro B as my CFW.

What do I need to download in order to allow Media Go to transfer the game, as well as being able to play it?

I ended up having to update from 6.35 pro-b5 to 6.60 pro-b10 in order for Media go transfering to work.

I didn't think about using the nail puller for anything but pulling nails.

I finished Chapter 1 last week and didn't start Chapter 2 until tonight. Oh man am I seriously creeped out and disturbed right now. Those death sequence descriptions! And those notes left behind by the
cannibal!

In the space of about half an hour I suffered
Yui's cabinet scene (which looked and sounded excruciating), the notes left behind by the cannibal and then Shinozaki's insanity scene closely followed by Morishige getting buried alive (which you experience by sound and darkness mostly making it infinitely worse!).

I had to stop and clear my head but also geek out a little bit. It's been way to long since a game has given me the willies like this one just did. So cool!
