So should I grab Kingdoms off steam really quick? The publisher (Big huge self published on steam right?) is now dissolved so what will happen with that game? Who will get the money?
Is anyone watching the livestream? It sounds like the Rhode Island government is planning on bailing these guys out. They are talking about making the company solvent, and making excuses for how much all this is going to cost.
They just said that Amalur needed to sell 3m to break even.
The game failed. The game failed. [Asked about how many the game would have had to sell to keep the company solvent] I'm told around 3 million.
it's too bad schillbo hasn't talked yet i really want to hear him talk about how this is obama's fault.
This industry is doomed then. The game wasn't even that huge or impressive looking.
The Governor of RI on Amalur:
*shakes head*
Can anyone who isn't Blizzard just stop making MMOs?
So is the the end of companies chasing the WoW MMO success dream now, with 38 Studios closing, The Old Republic not living up to expectations and THQ changing their Warhammer MMO to a non MMO type of game?
He's responsible for costing Rhode Island taxpayers nearly $200 million with no return.
i will be disappointed if i don't see any articles soon about other studios claiming to be scooping up some of these layoffs. don't think all the worker bees really deserved this.
RI, i guess
EA Partners published the game, IP Rights still with 38/RI.
Elder Scrolls Online.
You just need to do it right. World of Tanks is raking it in, and that launched as F2P.
They needed sales of 3 million to break even.
Oh boy.
I'm not familiar with that game but if the title is anything to go by that sure as hell as an ISP.
38's MMO? Just another WoW clone probably. The other thread with some screenshots suggested as much to me, anyway.
Why would a state fund a videogame company with tax payers money. That is just beyond any comprehension.
Darksiders is a wow clone too right?
To be honest, that game was started way before the current MMO landscape.
They have to release it.

I wish I had recorded that stream. I missed the exact wording of that violence and sexism bit, and that reporter deserves some youtube exposure.
I really don't know how it cost that much. They picked up BHG and THQ's canned game. Amalur is clearly a retooled version of that. The old gameplay videos of it look identical right down to the animation.
