Yeah comparing it to the pro controller you can see they made some tradeoffs. Would be cool if someone made a version that has the traditional dpad.
The pro controller comes with the console?

With more Joy Cons, or a Pro.
Probably would need to use pro controllers or the joined controllers for that.
I'm hoping I can just sync my WiiU pro controllers to this thing but I have some doubts that they'll allow that.
2. Do Pro controllers work on the tablet in portable mode? They've only been shown to work when the home dock is present.

Again, you can but how often do you think people will do this and will it outweigh the negatives of the Joy-cons in the long run? Personally, I don't think so.I can play 2 player split screen Mario kart on the train
2 player Mario kart on the train
do you not realise how amazing that is????
No it doesn't. Some games will just use one Joy Con. Otherwise what you are suggesting would require 2 analog sticks on each side.that's what I thought. but that defeats the whole purpose of playing together without having to buy extra stuff.
Not a good idea, imo.

There will always be some people who use features that will be considered superfluous by the majority.
The Joy-Con won't support motion controls, will they?
Nintendo will sell you individual pieces like battery covers; selling separate Joy-Con L and R is no big thing. Also what if one of the Joy-Con's break? Will you have to pay 60$ to buy two to only replace that one side?
I wont buy a switch if there is no option for a proper d-pad.

A few questions:
1. So how to the Joy-cons operate when not connected to the tablet? Do they have their own individual battery? If so, that means that when I'm on the go, that's 3 battery lives to keep track of?
2. Do Pro controllers work on the tablet in portable mode? They've only been shown to work when the home dock is present.
Who the hell is going to play a game using this tiny thing?
And how, with half the buttons?
Who the hell has hands even small enough for it to be comfortable?
Still shocked there isn't a traditional d-pad on there. Makes me feel old. I love separated controller parts like on the Wii. I wonder what this kinda set up means for the mobile market and what specifically Nintendo has planned for this as far as interactivity between switch software and their mobile games.

Uh the buttons are labelled.assuming prototype since the buttons arent labeled and you can see through to the board
Man, this is like Mario Kart Advance all over again...just that you are limited to split-screen
Huh? That they're shown used without being attached (either individually or as a pair) indicates that they MUST be communicating wirelessly.
Good ergonomics being optional is bad.
What I'm wondering here is why does the Joy-Con Grip have two lines of LEDs? Wouldn't one be enough? This is what I see every time I look at it:

So the video showed people playing MK8 with the joycons, how the hell are you going to comfortably hit the shoulder button to activate drift? Holding either side with the joystick to the left would mean the shoulder button would be on the UNDERSIDE of the controller. Awkward as fuck.

I've always like the idea of a split controller. I hope these are comfortable to hold.

This is what I see every time I look at it:
The console looks like it might get some work still.
I remember the Wii U and DS looked a bit different when announced
My guess is the Switch has up to 8 players, you can have 8 joycons after all (4 sets)
Yes, but I'd actually doubt the LEDs would show the battery status all the time. But sure, you could definitely be right with that. Each side controller has its own battery.
So what happens when I'm playing a FPS at home using the pro controller, and then take the unit with me on the go? What is the equivalent to the triggers on the portable unit?
Calm down.Oh no... Deal breaker.
