Did I just eat undercooked Salmon?

Ok, so I bought some fish fillets at the market. I threw them in the pan and tossed them for around seven to eight minutes. They were still pinkish in the middle but I ate them anyway (and they tasted fine) but now I'm reading online that undercooked salmon can give you parasites, so I'm really worried.

I know this is a pretty "GAF" thread (reckless behavior/uninformed decisions etc.) but do you think I'll be ok? Is seven minutes too short to cook small fish fillets? I thought it'd be fine because people eat sashimi all the time, but after reading about the risks, I'm freaking out a bit.

Seven minutes sounds like overcooked or perfectly cooked in my book. If the salmon was thin and not frozen 2.5 minutes on each side should probably be sufficient.

You will be fine.

If they were frozen at any point, you'll be fine, AFAIK. Most people only sear their fish anyway.

You can eat salmon raw. What do you think one of the most common forms of sushi is?

Parasites depends on how good the quality of fish you got, where it was from originally, how good your store is, and how it was handled.

90% of the human body is parasites.

It's true that bacteria make up a huge percentage (by numbers, not weight, obviously) of what we sort of consider as "ourselves", but they aren't parasites.... it's a symbiotic relationship.

Proposal: I'm really worried about my health/safety due to x

Solution 1: I should login to NeoGAF and create a topic to ask the health gaming experts

Solution 2: I should go visit my local doctor or call for proper medical advice/help

I shall go with solution 1.

Jooookes. You're fine OP. Don't trout yourself.

I was hoping this would be about sushi.
Disappointed it's something else.

I really doubt you're going to have any trouble there. But since there are parasites, and you're not sure if it was undercooked, you might want to contact a professional for peace of mind.

I have never before read an OP that said "is it safe for me to do this thing that I already know is totally safe and done by thousands of people a day?"

To be fair, just because the fish can be served raw doesn't mean all individual fishies should be.

To be fair, the last few GPs I've seen in central London knew less about my condition than GAF did last time I posted about it. One even had to google it.

Fair enough, some GPs will need to lean on specialists too (Googling it is pretty whack though). The issue with people playing GP is often nearly every result in Google is "you have cancer" or "your symptoms may cause death". Then people often flip the lid and instantly go to "I'm dying". With our bodies, there are so many generic symptoms which overlap which is why it's always best to go see a doctor or have a phone consultation rather than run to the internet. Everyone uses Google to their aid, but you do see the occasional topic online that ends with "what should I do?" when the answer is always "go see a doctor". "I'm shitting fountains of blood everywhere, what should I do GAF?" "My penis is absolutely covered in massive blisters overnight, what should I do GAF?" "I've gone blind and I don't even know how I'm typing this, what should I do GAF?". Seek medical help folks!

If you're diagnosed with something then that is often when support groups/topics can be helpful to be around people with similar issues. Support in numbers is definitely what helps people through a lot of things, especially chronic or terminal conditions.

I think OP is just either being a bit hyperbolic, or some humour in this topic should hopefully "cure"

I'm freaking out a bit.

You'll be fine. Ever heard of sushi?

Fish is flash frozen to kill parasites. Even sushi grade stuff.

I like salmon medium rare myself. Don't go nuts on Dr. Google, you will never be able to sleep.
