Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen PS4/XB1 |OT| They're master ports all, you can't go wrong

I can't decide on what to make my pawn. On my first play through (vanilla on PS3) I had a female Mage, since I was a melee build. After a YLOD, on Dark Arisen PS3 I went with a massive male Fighter, since I was a magic build.

This time around I'm thinking Ranger/Assassin. What sort of pawns are people looking for? Are big pack mule Fighters in demand, or are Mages the way to go?

This game.......is dope af. It’s like what I would want a dragon age game to be like. Glad I got this for so cheap too. It’s gonna get a lot of play time till mario oddysee drops.

I forgot how much fun the character customization is in this game. Never got that far the first time I played on PS3 but it really is such a blast.

Played this one PS3 and didn't love it. All the GAF love, and Destiny 2 burnout, made me take a chance on it a second time. Only like an hour and a half in, but it's still not grabbing me. It feels budget as hell with the awful graphics, loose gameplay, and lack of AAA polish. I'm hoping it clicks and I find what GAF sees in it soon.

The game does start off a bit slow after the intro and it has it's share of warts for sure but try and stick with it if you are able. IMO the game has a good combat system and a solid amount of customization and build options and a lot to explore. The story is not great and the pawn chatter can be brutal sometimes but this game is still one of my favorite games from last gen but as always YMMV...

I'm somewhat in the same boat.

The combat feels so... hack-and-slash to me. I'm not far at all, mind you, but it's not quite the "omgwow" levels I was expecting. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Felt the same when I got this game but I'm glad I stuck with it because once the game opened up it did get its claws in me and I couldn't stop playing it for weeks.

A tip: Ignore the main quest and start exploring the Bitterblack Isle content as soon as you've leveled up a bit.
The game becomes Dark Souls in that place: atmospheric and claustrofobic dungeons, hard as-nails dificulty but so satisfying when you manage some progress, much better loot etc.. It's there that I fell in love with the game.

You could level as a fighter till you get the sinew perk for extra carry weight and then swap into something else. With all the reading I'm doing on levelling the min-maxing some do doesn't seem to be that important. Gear is still the most important thing.

Try your best to somewhat focus on a path, but it doesn't need to be a militant approach. Of course I'm sure there will be plenty of min-maxed pawns, but you should enjoy the game primarily rather than trying to compete in a sea of players who'll be more concerned with precise stat management.

I'm thinking about it from an aesthetic/role-playing point of view. If my pawn is a mage, they're going to be slim/svelte. If I go fighter, they're going to be a beefcake. I don't want to make a beefcake mage in order to get maximum encumbrance, so I need to make a choice. I was just curious about what people were looking for in their pawns, because if there's a certain type that's in demand then I might go down that path.

I've always had a lot of trouble getting Griffin knowledge to three stars. Haven't fought one yet, but I was lucky enough to get Griffin Strategy Vol 3, one of the rarest scrolls in the game.

A tip for new players. You need Idols of different variety to unlock new weapons to buy later in the game. The best idol comes from the quest Escort Dury, which unlocks after A Land of Opportunity. In Escort Duty you need to keep Fournival's spoiled daughter Symone extremely happy to get a Gold Idol as a reward. Avoid bumping into her at all costs, don't help her when she falls, find her hiding behind the alehouse or in the inn, be prepared to give her a Flask of Water and let her win the race at the end (but don't fall far behind). If you do all that perfectly, she will give you the idol at the end. This quest is very easy to mess up, so save beforehand. As for what to do with the Gold Idol, I suggest giving it to Caxton. He will sell you a lot more weapons if you do.

Good tip.

But also remember to create a forgery at the Black Cat in Grand Soren before handing it over, as keeping the forgery grants you a 30% shop discount. Make sure to give the original to Caxton though.

Is there a way to keep your look when you change armor? Like a permanent look regardless of what you are wearing?

No, but as I posted on the previous page, when you're going through BBI, you can increase the level of your armour to the point where early game parts are just as good as late game ones.

Unless it's for the person u want to woo
I wouldn't bother with the early escort quests

Actually it may be better to avoid them if you already have a romantic partner in mind

Completely agreed. A lot of the early escort missions are extremely difficult yet don't offer much in terms of reward.

I can't believe I'm hooked on a game I've already spent hundreds of hours on in the previous console generation! No burn-out in sight.
I also can't believe I'm sitting at work instead of playing DD right now.

Argh I accepted an escort quest all the way to the Shadow Fort and I'm getting my ass kicked :(.

Yeah, going to the Shadow Fort can be rough even when you're a high level.
Noticeboard escort quests are fairly inconsequential though, so don't be worried about missing anything important if you don't do them.

How do I know if someone used my pawn? Do I get a notification or so I have a menu for that? Can I somewhere see how my pawn got rated?

Unfortunately, i'm having server connection issues all the time. Probably my main pawn will not getting updated as it should be.

I wouldn't call them 'inconsequential' per se considering they're needed for the trophies and a rather convenient way to manage the affection system for the ending.

When you rest at an inn it will tell you when you wake up. It tells you to the rating they received for that rent and you get a gift if the host gave them one. If you go onto the status page and onto your pawn you can see their overall rating.

Guess it's still way too early, but any ideas on how this re-release has been selling so far?

That being said, do you all think Capcom released this in preparation of DD2? Or is Capcom just throwing us a bone to get us to STFU about DD2?

Just to add, if you get no rating it means your pawn died somehow and didn't get revived.

It not a bug to be missing a rating.

I choose to believe DD2, just like the DmC remaster means we get DmC2.

They never used to be required for trophies; is that a new addition? There was a trophy for 50 noticeboard quests, but that could be anything, and I just used the useful BBI ones to get that.

But what I meant is the you can skip them, and come back to them later, unlike side quests, which get locked after you pass certain points in the main quest.

Is the Ur-Dragon still a thing or have they just got rid of the menu notices?

Maybe testing the waters for DD:Online coming to the West?

Can't wait to see the sales figures for this hoping it's good.

Also can't wait to play it all over again starting Saturday. Have two copies, one for the missus too so we can rent each other's pawns and play all day !

So notice board quests never get locked out? I had the same question - I have the escort mission to Shadow Fort but I'm way under-leveled at this point. I'm not looking forward to struggling through it at this point in the game if I don't have to.

Just the one Pawn. You can have up to two pawns of other players/Capcom servers with you as well, bit you can go with a party size of whatever you like.

I don't think they do. I've not played it in a few years though.
There are hundreds of escort quests though, so attempting to go through all of them would be an insane(ly tedious) task.

Going to Shadow Fort at this point is a suicide run. There are things there that will absolutely annihilate you.
