Dragon Quest 11 (JP) |OT| whynotboth.gif

to people completing the monster book section anyone run into the same problem of monsters not appearing that are listed in a specific area?
Like there are areas where I have like 7 ??? entries and I've looked them up and they're not tensei monsters but they don't seem to be in that area.

Any specific examples? The only ones I got left are some of the post-game trial map monsters but I'm only missing 1 or 2 from a few areas which are probably monsters I just haven't found yet(and I know one of them is a Metal Hand strong since I saw him but he ran away)

Whenever there's like one slot left that I can't find it always seems to turn out to be a metal monster. Remember to check at both day and night

on the map
path to nelsens trial village (the snowmap)
the complete second page of that area in the book is ??? for me but I can't find any of those entries in the map itself.

You mean the snow homonculus's tensei monster?

I don't know where you are in the game but if you're not already in the post game, it's better to wait until then to get it. They're fairly rare encounters in the sea before then and since you can't control if you encounter them or not, you'll drive yourself crazy. The strong version of them appear as symbol encounters in a post-game area(at night) so it's better to spawn them there

Yep at night was the key. I had been fighting tons of them and then I finally got one. I am trying to complete the Monster Book, then the Quest List.

Edit: Okay... I still need to do the
Kandar
quest so that's that...

I need... 86, 209, 229, 244, 246, 252, 256, 274, 276, 280, and 283

The last four say
Yugenor
but I am post-game so...

It hurts to say it but I'm giving up on my dream of finding a metal king strong. But frankly I don't think it matters because I have a feeling that a couple of the monsters I'm missing are no longer available... Something to keep in mind for next time I play. And I'm sure I'll be playing this many, many, many times in the future.

Where have you been looking for them?

I killed about 5 on my playthrough, without actively seeking them out.

I've run into 4 now and they've run away each time. Even in front of Camus with nearly 500 agility. I've been at it for 3 hours, and I think that's my limit. Actually twice my party got disabled on the first turn and I yelled at the TV. (._. )

As for where, the stairwell with scareflail strongs which was recommended to me by Hasemo.

I have yelled much profanity at my 3DS, LOL. My first MKS was killed by pure luck thanks to Senya.

After like two hours I got a Metal-boosted Jackpot then my very next attempt was also a Metal-boosted Jackpot. At least for the effort I can now easily afford everything available...

I might actually manage to get a Platinum trophy for the first time in like...five years, since all the trophies basically amount to "play the game" instead of it being stuff that's really difficult or tedious, so I'd get them all anyway.

Around 110 hours into this and I still gotta get through the 3DS version. D:

Been progressing slowly through the 3DS game...I think I met one of the big baddie. This sequence and the following events were a-ma-zing. The scene in the
church
got me hard, actually I think this might be the most powerful and emotional scene in a DQ ever...the fantastic cutscene direction really helps here.

This game keeps on delivering, it's been a long, long time since I enjoyed a jrpg that much.

One of my only complaint is the difference in quality between the cutscenes : some are your average basic cutscenes with low-poly characters and robotic animations while some have great direction, great character models. It doesn't seem on par with the ps4 version where everything is at the same level of quality.

Pretty sure the majority of those only appear at night so make sure it's night time at least

Oh thanks lol now I feel stupid different monsters at different day times is so obvious and I already know due to farming skill seeds that certain monsters only appear in certain weather states. x_X not sure why I didn't make that logical leap for daytimes. guess time to jump back in. DQ11 is magic.

Ok, I just got to the
dark floating castle
and defeated
the demon outside of the castle's gate

Is this the final dungeon of the game? Also I'm level 50 right now, is this a good level for this dungeon and the finals boss fights?

Any casino protips for some fast winnings? :)
My first casino "strategy" was:
1. Play the 10/100 coin poker until I had 30k coins.
2. Play the 100 coin slots.

I think it took me a total of 2 hours to get a million coin jackpot, but that included playing around with some other stuff as well.

I don't normally concern myself with platinum trophies, but I realized I was pretty close to the platinum... I just need to max everyone's skill panels and get all of the costumes...

but... I looked a list of costumes. Jesus. Maybe I won't do it after all.

It's pretty easy to be honest (the costumes) also you don't need to max out all skill panels. It's getting lvl 99 with everyone.
Most of them are craftable in rather painless fashion thanks to "steal". The most annoying one was one that cost 980k gold.

Oh, if it's level 99 then I'm definitely not gonna bother. The trophy descriptions make it sound like you just need to learn all of the skills.

that's what I thought too but alas not and honestly glad about that. Farming skill seeds for maxing all skills is more tedious than the metal king grind. Still I did both anyway. I think the break down somewhere was you need 70+ extra skills seeds not sure how many you can pick up through quest/chests/etc maybe 30?
Farming an extra 40 sounds about right.

Considering how close I feel to maxing at my current level, I figured you could do it without skill seeds.

Either way, I've become increasingly averse to grinding in DQ games over the years, so at this point I refuse to do it for any reason. Blame me being stubborn or English fans perpetuating the myth that it's required and me enjoying proving them wrong every single time. Shrug.

True ending achieved.
Sheeeeesh. That was so cool.

I'm going to hold off on my big thoughts post until I finish the 3DS versions though I think, so... a bit more time.

Since I didn't talk about it before and now that Aeana is done,

What blows my mind about the true ending in the game is that
it puts DQXI as a prequel to Dragon Quest III instead of a potential game set afterwards. It explains the origin of the name Loto, one of the things that always bothered me about DQIII, lol. The flash forward to DQ1 in the true ending as well actually is bothering me too. I actually don't think that's DQ1 they're referencing but a DQ story after DQXI but before DQIII because the hero found the Sword of Heroes on a mountain there instead of in the final dungeon.

Roche -> XI is supposed to be kind of a mirror of DQIII -> DQI. On the other hand, DQXI is supposed to be a callback to DQIII in feel so having an in-between story that mirrors DQI would make that comparison even stronger.

It's just wishful thinking on my part though. lol

PSA: As of today, Amazon JP is shipping the ps4 version internationally again. They stopped doing that for about 3 weeks after release.

I've really got to play catch up.

Still in the regular game. Heading into the snowy mountain area.

The red eyed variants of the monsters are pretty scary. Baby sabercats ain't so cute with red eyeballs.

Also, a nice little touch I noticed in the snow area, enemies sneeze because of the cold. It's adorable.

Now that Undertale's out, finally finding time to play this again. It's so goooood.

Just wrapped up the
mermaid subplot
- nice flashback to
DQ6
there. And the storytelling/cutscene direction was amazing. Really memorable and well-done.

Actually what I did was play the 10-coin slots until I had like 3,000 coins, then switched to poker. Doubling down makes getting huge money easy if you're lucky. Got enough for the platinum sword and then split.

Very limited Japanese here... starting a playthrough of the game and was wondering if there are any good translation guides/FAQs online anywhere? I'll be playing the game once it releases in english as well, of course!

I don't know if there are any translation guides yet but I made a vocabulary list with words from the game and their translation.
It's not everything but it can help you, especially if you already know some japanese.

Ooook, I might be a bit lost and need some help...I am at the "second part" of the game. I just have found
Rou
again in the
Mountain village
. And from there, I don't know where to go or what to do. Any tips ?

Your goal is to
find all of your friends
. Right now, you can
go south to the Soltico region and west into the Medachat region to find some new stuff

Ok, can maybe someone explain to me the the chiko sidequest riddle, in the medal academy?
I may have lost something in translation here, but I thought he wanted me to find a weapon that it's sharp less and dull/blunt.So at first i tried something like the woodstick or weapons that don't have sharp edges but it was none of those.
I eventually looked the answer up on the internet and it ultimately was a
steel sword
?
Are
steel swords
sharp less?

I gave up on that one after looking up a guide. The thing about this quest is that all the solutions are
based on puns.
It's not that the Steel Sword isn't sharp, it's that it "doesn't have a blade (はがね = はがねぇ = 刃がない), so it can't cut through stuff."

...lol.

I just found that one of the puff puff events is missable. Before you 'clear' the second casino, there apparently should be a woman in front of the treasury near the elevator. I can't get her to show up on all times of the day, so I assume I'm going to miss out on that one. Shame, since I found all others.

Edit: Found a video of someone further along than I am who triggered it. Maybe she has yet to show up.

I did that in post game so I think you're correct on something later triggering her appearance.

You mean the one where you're supposed to haggle him down to like 50000 by using his brother?

You didn't actually just pay 980,000 for it did you

I did never knew how to trigger the haggle I just rejected his offer a few times but nothing I read/saw hinted on how to trigger a price drop. It was annoying but still not awful given that you can steal super valuable stuff to sell.

A little general ocd note monster book completes at 660/662. I think the only thing I have left to do now is getting all items(and there is still a shit ton of them I'm sitting at something like 650/900 something) and doing the last part titles of stuff like crashing into monsters. I just beat the last horse race title time too that was pretty hard took me 25 tries mostly trying to find out at which parts it's ok to remain on boosting route at which parts it's better to skip and stick close to the wall..
