Eh, I think Tripon's threads in Gaming are doing about the same numbers as the weekly threads used to, and so the community thread is in addition to that.

This too. Discord is killing a lot of GAF communities because they just go off-site.
I said it way back when it was still fgw

No reason to stick around here

Rohan VS Avdol, Giorno, Pucci
http://www.mmcafe.com/nico.html#http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm31035233

Rohan is considered one of the 'weird' characters in this game that takes getting used to. Once you understand how he works, he's a giant pest. In S-OFF he has no regular 'normals'. Instead hitting LMH buttons makes him draw his famous comic character Pink Dark Boy, and if it hits it places a 'seal' on the opponent that corresponds with the button YOU pushed. So if you hit them with the L button, their L button is sealed. If they push the sealed button the character staggers, leaving them briefly vulnerable. The seal disperses after a while, of the opponent hits Rohan. This wasn't too useful, other than being pesky in the air, until the 1.4 patch came out and made the drawings hit OTG. So now you can end almost any combo with a seal of your choice, limiting the opponent's options. This also means it opens up the possibility for taunt combos, which greatly expands his damage potential. In S-OFF he has a really good dragon punch, which can lead to a seal, or be cancelled into super. He has a fast, multi-hitting projectile, and a nasty and fast command throw that seals the opponent's style button (or just run in and apply a different seal).

His main mode is S-ON. Here he gets a full set of actual normals to work with. His crouching light attack, however, is by far his most useful one. That's because it has next to no pushback. This leads to looong block-strings that build a great deal of meter. While doing rapid 2Ls you can try the opponent's patience, or randomly stop and throw, or stop and jump. Once the opponent catches on to this, you can start changing up the timing of your 2Ls to really mess with the opponent. From there, you can combo into 214H which build good meter, and do the one of the follow ups to either launch the opponent across the screen for wall carry, or steal some of the opponent's meter and apply a seal.

The main crux of Rohan is that he builds so much meter in general that he can be as big of an arse as he wants. This means lots of roman cancels to stay safe and continue his looong offense. You'll often see Rohan players fit in all sorts of bold gimmicks once they get a handle on him.

Rohan's super applies a 'special' seal, which seals the opponent's special moves. His ultra is by far the most devastating seal, a 'master' seal that seals ALL the opponent's buttons. This leaves the opponent completely on the defensive and opens them up for follow up attacks. It's not uncommon for Rohan to start round 2 with 3 bars of meter > spend 2 bars on an ultra combo > build a bar of meter during the master seal > combo into ultra again.

Avdol, like most Part 3 characters, is a big character with a big stand. They tend to be very imposing, taking up lots of space. Indeed, going S-On and S-OFF can instantly bring Avdol into his opponent's face, or create distance without a moment's notice. Because the stand stakes up so much space, a 'Stand Shimmie' is possible, where an opponent's throw or attack will whiff as the invincible S-ON animation pushes them out.

One of the big complaints with the game is that pretty much everything is unsafe. Avdol does not follow that rule at all. He has multiple moves in both S-OFF and S-ON that are not only safe, but in some cases 0 frames on block. He's a very safe character. Another hallmark of Avdol is his super strong, poke-heavy neutral game. This is in part due to his excellent normals, and his various specials that can be used to control space at different angles. His projectiles are particularly noteworthy: S-OFF 236A travels at different speeds, and recovers fast enough to chase after them and establish space dominance, or create set-ups. S-OFF 214A creates a projectile that burrows into the ground, and remains there as long as that attack button is held. Releasing the button causes the projectile to explode, popping the opponent into the air which can be converted into a combo (difficult). This is often used after a sweep for nasty okizeme, which changes based on timing. S-ON has 236A which gives the projectile homing properties based on how fast it travels. The slowest version tracks both jumping and side-step super well.

In addition to this, Avdol has a fire whip that's safe at a distance and crumples. He also has a parry that parries the first hit (even projectiles) and then attacks, which often counter-hits for a decent chunk of damage. He also has a semi-rekka which gives off a longer chain of attacks based on which button you push. He's a just a super balanced, good character.

The other characters you don't see too much of, I'll try to find more vids of them so I can go into more detail at a later time.

If time and mental exhaustion weren't factors, every match in a tournament would be Ft10.
If this was treated like a sport where every match is a top level pro match then it would be played Tennis style.

Best of 5 sets.

Every set is a FT5 win by two. If drawn at 4-4 then whoever gets 7 wins first wins the set. Final set has to be decided by win by two rule so it can go forever theoretically (like that one tennis game that lasted a day).

After every 5 games players have to switch sides.
