Fighting Games Weekly | July 8-14 | All roads lead here

I'm a little surprised by all the salty tweets I'm seeing on my feed regarding the shirtless stunt. I thought it was funny as hell, why's everyone so offended?

You're following un-fun people who have made fronting a major part of their imbalanced breakfast.

People are salty over no shirt Marvel finals?

Fuck that shit... I am shirtless right now. That shit was so fucking manly...

I am gonna watch some Berserk, then eat some medium rare steak, do 100 push ups and grow out my beard a bit. After that I am going to play some DOTA 2 and pick Axe.

Marn getting exposed by his former team member.

I've always believed that the majority of the team should have power (3/5 members), however, the manager controls who receives how much money each person receives, all roster swaps, and he pretty much owns the team and can sell it to anyone he deems necessary. In my case, our manager decided to pay himself over 3x that of our highest paid player. Now there are some contractual rules that are there to help the players, but I'm not positive if I'm allowed to get into them. Riot has been helping out our team and trying to sort out the situation, but we still haven't received any of the 'stolen' money. I do take full responsibility for letting this situation happen, it was all just very unfortunate because at the time, my team trusted our manager a lot and it was really hurting our team by constantly arguing about managerial responsibilities so I dropped the matter after a week or two.

I'm not digging how he used the words "stolen money"

Actually, let me not paint with a broad brush, but I was seeing a lot of "this is why we're looked at weird FGC" things pop up here and there.

They owned it yo. Who wants to be sitting around in suits playing fighting games? (actually that would be cool too)

It's been a while since I followed a FightingGAF thread, missed both ECT and UFGT due to traveling but really enjoyed CEO last week and CM west just now.

Glad to be back just in time for EVO, feels like ages since the last time I saw high level street fighter.

Ugh this weekend is going to be so awesome.

Have a very strong urge like Azure to get back into the Marvel lab but I gotta focus on studying this week :(

Pacific Rim and EVO this weekend, lawwwwwwwwwwwd. Gonna delay watching Pacific Rim for EVO though, but still stoked.

You should watch the AE matches from SEA.

Only bad thing about EVO is the month or two after EVO.

Still, I'm hoping Kadey just wrapped up a heap of exclusives and is going to be revealing all the special events and streams. Seems very strange compared to last year.

I got a 6 day break coming up so I'll be stream monstering it up. :D
Too bad I didn't know before hand, I would have taken some leave to go home and compete (I'm from Vegas).

Someone should post those Marn and FChamp pics for submission for the EVO subscriber's emoticons. :p

Looking forward to the intro videos this year, those are always a treat. Especially looking forward to Melee's.

A nice little article on Yatagarasu for those of you not in the know. There is also this small translation job done by a forum goer here discussing the whole issue surrounding the acceptance of GGPO and why they didn't really think to improve the netcode situation for the worldwide audience at first. I'm not sure they get GGPO, but at least they're using it.

They've still got a ways to go for 73k.

That translation basically reconfirms my beliefs that Japan still struggles to understand internet infrastructure outside of their bubble.

Developers in Japan should be required to take a plane trip to some backwoods location in America and then attempt to play a fighting game to somebody on the other side of the country. Maybe then they can see what their netcode is actually worth.

????????? "That the networks of foreign countries are just not as good as Japan's, and the nice low lag netplay that they enjoy just isn't common overseas." What part of that sounds like they don't understand internet infrastructure outside of their bubble? It's just that to them and a lot of people they would rather have lag than rollback, because rollback can be extremely off putting to a lot of people (lag is off putting too but at least they don't have to pay to solve a problem by introducing another).

I just reconfirms my beliefs that they've JUST STARTED to understand internet infrastructure outside their bubble which is great news. What worries me is how they think GGPO works. I really hate the language barrier. It can cause so many misunderstandings since we have to rely on second hand translations (shoutouts to the dudes who take the time do them for us. I love youz guyz!).

http://forums.selectbutton.net/viewtopic.php?p=1283404#1283404
- GGPO reduces the appearance of lag, making it so you can play easier. Since it adds rollbacks, it's not really suitable for games where every single frame is important. Even then, the foreign fighting game community overwhelmingly supports using GGPO.
Compare that to this.

http://skullgirls.com/2011/09/skullgirls-ggpo-and-you/
But if lag is always there online, how can GGPO “get rid of lag?”

It can’t actually “get rid of lag,” but it can allow the game to proceed as if there wasn’t any. With GGPO, in our example above Alex can choose how many frames the game delays his input on his own console, meaning he can choose to have the game react instantly. Thus, for his own character he experiences zero input lag. This means all his combos, links, throw techs and other timing-sensitive things will feel exactly the same as if Alex were playing offline, making his experience infinitely more useful.

So it all depends on what you want out of the game – GGPO allows users to choose to experience anything between zero and eight frames of input lag. Those who want the true tournament experience can choose zero lag and get training that will apply equally well offline, but they will have to get used to dealing with rollbacks. Alternatively, players who want smoother visuals but can tolerate a bit of input lag can choose 2 to 4 frames of lag, which is generally acceptable for most people and will have fewer visual oddities on average connections. And casual players can choose 5 to 8 frames of lag, which means the game will look super smooth but gameplay will lag quite a bit.
Funny thing about SG's GGPO. I don't really deal with rollbacks even with connections at 130-180 ping. The standard ping for someone in Cali (NY here) is about 80.

Oooh boy, EVO's right around the corner. I haven't been there in a couple of years, and I can't wait to meet a folks and run sets with them in a lot of different games.

On that note...is there some kind of "GAF Meet Up at EVO" thread? I wouldn't mind meeting some of you good folks and having some good fights~!

That's how the FGC can get more female stream monsters. You get the hottest dudes in the FGC and put them in shirt vs shirt exhibitions.

If you guys want me to put anything into the EVO thread, now would be a good time to PM me.

Are you doing it? If so, when it will be up? I think we'll have some special event on Thursday, so maybe it should be up on Wednesday at last

IT'S EVO WEEK!!!

Good luck to all the GAF-FGC going. Wish I could be there, would be fun even just going 0-2 in a few games and then watching the madness. Some day.

Wish they'd go ahead and get the stream info out. Is HD going to be subscription only this year?

Yeah, at least it picked up steam a bit this weekend, going from high teens to $23K. They're about 1/3 of the way there, if the current pace keeps up they should make it, right?
