Are data caps common in the US?

Fairly common I guess. The whole high speed internet system kinda sucks here since the cable companies pretty much control it and a lot of people only have one option for a high speed ISP.

I'm in the UK, in a rural village. Our 8Mb connection is relatively modest, but it is unlimited. And Horizon 2 was able to preload over one night.
