Gran Turismo sounds are significantly improved (!) in latest beta

I never understood why the car sounds were always so terrible.
I mean the last Need for Speed they went out and setup mics around the exhaust and inside the car for each one and it sounded incredibly good ...And thats Need for Speed.
You'd expect game devs as passionate about racing as the GT team to go to any lengths to get accurate sounds as well.

Not been following this much, does it have night and day cycle? Some of the best times I've had in gran turismo 5 was driving the nissan gtr on the nurburgring with the night and day transition.

Need for speed also sounds fake. Like gun sounds in movies, exagerated to sound more agressive. at which point your arguing about what you WANT cars to sound like, and what they should actually sound like.

My dream is a replay mode where the sound volumes are approximating real life, ie. a race car going full throttle will be super loud compared to the environment, especially from the exhaust side.

Well , If only the trees weren't so obviously 2D , it would be perfect.
It's a bummer since driveclub didn't have So many 2D trees near the track

driveclub also had twice as long per frame to render those trees

this is also true...personally i still dont think GT:S sounds all that great...much improved, but still not great...HOWEVER..what most people WANT the cars to sound like, is not what most cars actually sound like...

True. Still .. Gt Sports had more time to know the console , and probably the more power dedicated to the simluation aspect of the game.
Still , Some 3D trees wouldn't hurt

i dont care how much time a dev has to "know the console" you cant just magically find the performance to render at twice the speed without making sacrifices

Sounds great. Am I right in remembering that they hired someone from T10 or Bizarre that has a good track record for car sounds?

So has Polyphony Digital ever gotten around to doing good tire modeling? It's historically been garbage and the Forza guys just do it so much better. It's like they don't really get the physics involved of the deformation of the tire itself. You can even see it in the videos posted so far.

Have you been to a racetrack? Depending on the track surroundings, echo from cars is commonplace.

I grew up around racing, along with a background in both engineering and racing as an adult, along with some audio work on the side. I can tell you the echo is completely wrong.

Im not goning to say it's perfect, because it is somewhat overdone, but the echo just needs to be toned down slightly (video from a Nurburgring enthusiast channel):

Even when I go to the Daytona races, and its flat as shit in Florida, there's echoes and reverbs.

Wow, the M6 GT3 replay sounds great, and a quantum (and necessary) leap over previous GT games. I'd say the car needs to sound a lot louder as it approaches and passes the camera - the current levels give the impression of half throttle - but that's a minor tweak really. I've seen some other videos which sound bad, but even if all cars don't sound this good, as long as enough do I'll be happy.

The GT sample has that "concrete canyon" reverb effect going on like you'd get a place like Monaco, front straight of Indy, or in a tunnel. It's the sound of multiple hard reflections with lots of feedback and relatively short delay. You'll get echo in big bowls like Daytona or Michigan, but there's an even longer delay at a lower relative dB level.

Are you sure about that?

Man I know this thread is about the sound, but holy fuck at that replay!

I just don't know what it is about GT, the combination of lighting, motion blur, camera angles/movement, filters, just all these things put together and they nail the photo realistic look better than anyone. No one comes even close to it. It's not about more polygons, or everything being 3D modeled. The very specific art style that Polyphony uses for GT is unmatched.

Those first person shots from the replay, are seriously damn near indistinguishable from a real onboard cam at the ring.

Sacrifices have to be done , but in this case , when you have such a lightning model , such car models the background not being on par shows.
It seems more like a problem with the Track not with the engine.

Is damage in this one or na? Also are they adding the create a track that they talked about in GT6? I'm buying this unlike GTS, but I'm curious. This better make it in Q4.

Also some of those gifs.. isthisreallife.gif
Damage was confirmed but we have not seen it yet. Nor have they detailed it further than confirming it. The track creator was released for GT6 but probably not in Sport.

I'd be amazed if they showed decent crashing. I think it will just be a basic paint scratcher but whatever.

I'd rather the physics and interaction be truly fixed over showing damage. But, if the damage was physics based that would be even cooler.

No game really gets physics on any of it right, so I guess we just have to wait for a lot more power in computing before we get close on any of it anyways.

GRID Autosport annihilates this game's audio.

The GRID games are in a class of their own.

We need soft body physics in racing games.

Now let us do custom livery paint jobs on our cars. I think that's an awesome option to have, like Forza or even Drive Club.

Sounds better than before but it lacks some... umm, zest?

Outside the cars, the surfaces look unconvincing, though. The barriers don't look remotely real, for instance. Hopefully they will see major improvements before this goes gold.

Already confirmed, they showed it in the first gameplay trailer... how deep is the editor, though, we don't know yet.
IIRC Driveclub only had livery presets...but I haven't played that game in a while.

Also, as far as visuals, Pcars can be hit or miss but when it hits, it's stunning
