Guess when Sony will launch the following games

Optimistic predictions:

Spiderman: November 2017
Days Gone: March 2018
Detroit: Become Human: June 2018
Death Stranding: 2021
God of War: Fall 2018
TLOU 2: Fall 2019
Sucker Punch's new IP: March 2019
GT Sport: December 2017
Dreams: June 2018
Knack 2: September 2017
WiLD: Q2 2020

Spider-Man - January-February 2018
Days Gone - July or August 2018
Detroit: Become Human - October 2017
Death Stranding - Late 2019 (probably the PS4's Swan song)
God of War - December 2017
TLOU 2 - Late 2018
Sucker Punch's new IP - September 2018
GT Sport - November 2017
Dreams - January 2018 with Beta at Christmas
Knack 2 - May 2018
WiLD - June 2018 (if it's not cancelled)

Insomniac is probably targeting around November-December for Spider-Man (close to Homecoming Bluray release) but I have a feeling it might slip into early 2018 due to Insomniac's statement about whether it would release in 2017: Tweet

I think the only one on that list you will see in 2017 is knack2

If your lucky you might get gtsport at xmas but i reckon its gonna be a stacked start to 2018

With scorpio launching this year and at certain degree Mario being the Switch killer app, there's no way Sony ain't putting something big during the fall.

All are pretty random guesses.

Spiderman - May 2018

Days Gone - February 2018

Detroit: Become Human - April 2018

Death Stranding - November 2019

God of War - October 2017

TLOU 2 - Q2 2020

Sucker Punch's new IP - October 2018

GT Sport - September 2017

Dreams - December 2017

Knack 2 - September 2017

WiLD - March 2018

TLOU 2 will definitely not be released until 2020 at the earliest. They showed off that trailer incredibly early so that the possibility of the game being leaked was much lower.
That would be very uncharacteristic of Naughty Dog to show a game so far ahead of release. They've been pretty consistent in having about 2 years of pre release marketing before a game comes out. My guess is aiming for end of 2018, possibly with a delay to early 2019

Persecution Complex
I doubt it was Konami that wanted to spend untold millions starting up an entirely new studio to build a Metal Gear multiplayer mode. There is plenty of blame to go around for what happened with MGSV.

I didn't know Kojima was the one who wanted the multiplayer for MGSV.

Either way hopefully not having to build an engine from scratch will help with the development time.

Kojima said recently all the story work etc. is done so now they're hopefully the rest of development is moving along.

I'm a bit surprised many think GOW will be 2018. I thought a lot was indicating a release this year? Now I am worried. :(

Drive Club delayed from launch into next Fall.
The Order 1886 delayed from holiday into Spring.
Uncharted 4 delayed from holiday into Spring.
Gran Turismo Sport delayed from holiday into whenever they finish it.

Sony does not have a great track record getting their big releases out in time for Christmas. On that precedent alone, I would not expect God of War this year.

Meh, I'll play the guessing game.

Days Gone - Holiday 2018
Detroit: Become Human - Early 2018
Death Stranding - Early 2020
God of War - Holiday 2017
TLOU 2 - Mid 2019
Sucker Punch's new IP - Mid 2019
GT Sport - Fall 2017

I'd prefer they don't rush it. If it's ready for Holiday then great but if it needs another few months in the oven I'd prefer it

Q1 2019: Sucker Punch New IP
Q2 2019: Another unannounced game
Q4 2019: The Last of Us Part II
Q2 2020: Death Stranding

Best wishes.

I'd bet several of you money TLoU 2 comes out before 2020. That is a big gap to go without a game. I think TLoU 2 is easily a late Summer early Fall of 2018 game. April 2019 at the latest.

Spiderman I exactly by November of 2017 or January 2018

Days Gone is probably February 2018 or late spring 2018

Detroit November 2018

Death Stranding is probably the most difficult one, especially since it's confirmed multiplatform. I'll say late Summer 2020 at the earliest

GT Sport will be delayed until Spring of 2018

Dreams I expect by October of 2017

Knack 2 in September 2017

Cool idea. Here's my takes (planned \ announced dates and slips I think will happen)

  • Spiderman - Fall 2018 (will probably slip to Spring 2019)
  • Days Gone - Spring 2018 (likely slip though by a few months to Summer 2018)
  • Detroit: Become Human - This one is actually a bit tricky.... The footage shown did look quite far along and it has been a while since Beyond but this is Quantic we're talking about... Spring 2018
  • Death Stranding - 2021
  • God of War - Spring 2018 (likely will slip though)
  • TLOU 2 - Spring 2019
  • Sucker Punch's new IP - Fall 2018
  • GT Sport - Fall 2017
  • Dreams - Hoo boy. Very tough... That game's development has been way too quiet for my likely. 2018 (possibly cancelled)
  • Knack 2 - Spring 2018
  • WiLD - No idea... Lets go for Summer 2018

Sony dropped Rime, Sony dropped Edith Finch. Sony Santa Monica doesn't have any other inter-studio collaborations heading forward.

I think they've kinda lost their patience for independent developers. If WiLD doesn't have plans to launch this year, I can definitely see Sony dropping it.

The problem with predicting some games:

Detroit Become Human: it looked surprisingly in depth and far along last e3. One has to wonder how much more will they show prior to release. An e3 demo and behind the scenes hands on for publications are probably the last footage theyll probably show before release. Which means it could be a know show at the remaining conferences this year

Spider-Man: this one is probably the hardest to determine. No actual live demo, and has been on radio silence for a good year with no updates. Not tied to spiderman homecoming movie which is post e3, dvd likely to be released late October early November. Has potential to be a system seller if done correctly, so sony probably isn't rushing it.

I'm going to take a guess at a few of them:

Spiderman - Q1 2018

Days Gone - Q4 2018 or later

Detroit: Become Human - 2019 or later

Death Stranding - Not any time soon

God of War - Q2 2018

TLOU 2 Q3 2018

Sony dropped Rime, Sony dropped Edith Finch. Sony Santa Monica doesn't have any other inter-studio collaborations heading forward.

I think they've kinda lost their patience for independent developers. If WiLD doesn't have plans to launch this year, I can definitely see Sony dropping it.

They definitely appear to be dialing back their indie releases, particularly those that were associated with SSM. But I don't think they ever classified Wild as being an indie title. I think you could see that with the way its been treated. At gamescom 2014 when it was revealed, Denny talked about how helping establish new IP's and studios in Europe is something they're proud of and mentioned how excited they were to partner with one of Europe's top creators. They brought Ancel out to announce it there. And then the following year they brought him out again to show a demo of it. It's also notable that it was their big end of show reveal at gamescom 2014. The game seems to be a big deal for them. It's just that it's being made by a small team and is very ambitious, so it's taking time to complete.

Spiderman - Summer 2018
Days Gone - Summer 2018
Detroit: Become Human - Q1-Q2 2018

Days Gone - April 2018

Detroit: Become Human - January 2018

Death Stranding - March 2019

God of War - March 2018

TLOU 2 - April 2019

Sucker Punch's new IP - late 2019

Dreams - February 2018

Knack 2 - late 2017

WiLD - late 2018

TLOU 2 will definitely not be released until 2020 at the earliest. They showed off that trailer incredibly early so that the possibility of the game being leaked was much lower.
That seems like weird reasoning and not something they would do.

People seem to think that game is way further away than I do. Nolan North knew they were working on it in some capacity in June of 2015.

The first game they started working on in 2009, first teased in 2011 and then released in 2013.

To have a game they announced not come out for 3.5-4 years post announcement just does not seem in line with how ND operates. Especially when we got a full cinematic and not just a title/voiceover.

They've been a two title studio for a while now and I think TLOU2 has been in the cooker for awhile in some capacity.

There's simply no way I'm wrong on all these exact dates:

GT Sport - August 22, 2017
Knack 2 - October 17, 2017
Days Gone - November 21, 2017
Detroit: Become Human - January 9, 2018
Dreams - February 27, 2018
God of War - March 13, 2018
Spiderman - May 8, 2018
TLOU 2 - July 3, 2018
Sucker Punch's new IP - September 11, 2018
WiLD - October 26, 2018
Death Stranding - August 20, 2019

Knack 2 8/2017
GT Sport 10/2017
God of War 11/2017 (I hope, but probably 3/2018))
Detroit: Become Human 1/2018
Sucker Punch's new IP 2/2018 (but I'd rather 10/2017 - I'm being optimistic because they've had plenty of time and have already released a game on PS4)
Dreams 3/2018
Spiderman 4/2018
Days Gone 6/2018 (though I think it would be a strong Holiday title)
WiLD 8/2018 (in a double pack with BG&E2)
TLOU 2 6/2019 (or Holiday 2019)
Death Stranding 9/2019

Ratchet & Clank 4/2019

Spiderman: December 2017
Days Gone: August 2018
Detroit: Become Human: January 2017
Death Stranding: 2019 or on PS5

  • Playable from start-to-finish milestone in Dec 2016.
  • Christopher Judge listed the game as a 2018 game on his profile before removing it.
  • Average development time for GoW were 3 years, but major changes are involved causing difficulty in development timeline.
TLOU 2
  • Story idea/concept for TLoU Part II started in 2013/14.
  • Development put-on-hold/slowed down significantly to finish UC4.
  • Development of TLoU Part II restarted in May/June 2016, after UC4 shipped.

  • Development resources taken up by The Lost Legacy also blurs timeline expectations.
Sucker Punch's new IP
  • Started development after Aug 2014.
  • At a playable stage in June 2015.
  • Stage of game development is behind/slower than Days Gone as of Dec 2015.
  • Open-world game. New IP.
Dreams
  • Started development after LBP2.
  • Currently in stage of development where campaign is being built by MM team.
  • Historical development time average cannot be quantified with Dreams due to scale of game being developed.
Knack 2
  • Started development in 2014, with a 3-year dev window given to project.
  • Developed by 60 staff members, bigger than previous Knack team.
WiLD
  • Started development in 2014.
  • Indie-studio founded by Michel Ancel, who is directing Wild and BG&E2 simultaneously at Wild Sheep & Ubisoft respectively.
