Season 5 of Homeland premieres Sunday, October 4th on Showtime. The season will consist of 12 episodes. Reviews have been very good so far, so perhaps this is a return to S1 form for Homeland? There are some spoilers listed below, so proceed at your own risk.

Cast:
Main cast:
- Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison, an ex-CIA intelligence officer with bipolar disorder, now working for a private security firm in Berlin.
- Rupert Friend as Peter Quinn, a CIA SAD/SOG (black ops) operative.
- F. Murray Abraham as Dar Adal, a retired black ops specialist.
- Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson, a CIA intelligence officer and Carrie's mentor.
- Sebastian Koch as Otto Düring, a German philanthropist and Carrie's boss.
- Miranda Otto as Allison Carr, the current Berlin Chief of Station, working directly under Saul.
- Alexander Fehling as Jonas Happich, legal counsel for the Düring Foundation and Carrie's boyfriend.
- Sarah Sokolovic as Laura Sutton, an American journalist in Berlin who works for the Düring Foundation.
Recurring cast:
- Micah Hauptman as Millis, a CIA tech working in the Berlin Station.
- Nina Hoss as Astrid, Quinn's former lover who works for the German embassy.
- Mark Ivanir as Ivan Krupin, a Russian intelligence agent.

Synopsis:
Showtime said:
Season five will pick up two years after Carrie Mathison's (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes) ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the "war on terror," Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm.

I watched about half of S4 before getting bogged down with work stuff and forgetting to continue the show. I liked what I saw but how was it received? Does it end decently?

I'm on board. As opposed to most I didn't mind that last episode from last year. Great comeback season.

Niraj

I shot people I like more for less.
Season 4 was pretty good comparatively, so looking forward to this.

Currygan

Can't wait, Season 4 was a real return to form and it sounds like this season has finally won back a lot of the critics.

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
After the shitshow of S2 \ early S3, S4 was awesome. Bring it on.

The season premiere is today!

Separation Anxiety

Season 5 begins with Carrie building a new life in Berlin, almost two years after the embassy attack in Islamabad. But her peace is threatened when a request from her boss forces her back into the dangerous world she left behind.

They won't kill Quinn, that destroys half of their move to reboot Homeland as 24.

I only saw the first 3 seasons (missed a bit from 3 though).

Is it worth going back to 4?

Please tell me
Brody family drama is erased from this series??? Cant deal with teenage daughter problems...

Anyone know what time this is on?

IIRC, they were entirely irrelevant to S4.

Your enjoyment of S4 may depend on some things. Do you think Carrie is inherently awesome even when making decisions that should hurt her country? Did you love 24? If you answered yes, watched S4 without reservations.

I dont mind Carrie, though I prefer Brodie / Quinn.

You'll be very happy with S4. The only issues are the final ep (which tries to reset the series in a way that's completely ridiculous and that S5 is thankfully mostly ignoring) and some real dumb 24-esque plotting towards the end. Otherwise, it's great.

So does the time-skip mean they are ignoring the foreboding ending in regards to the mission Quinn flew for? And what about the crucial uncharacteristic Saul's decision to give in to Adal's demands\terms?

Thoughts? I only watched the first two seasons and bailed on season three when it got real fucking dumb.

Would I be able to watch this/understand? How's the first episode.

Pretty decent premiere, although lacking a strong hook like the fourth season premiere had.

You should just watch season 4 and then jump into season 5 if you like that.

There is another season for the worlds worst spy? Jesus Christ.

Why wouldn't there be?

I think it was weird how Carrie never suspected that she was going to be kidnapped.

Nice to see Quinn actually becoming Agent 47 lol

Excellent set up for the new season. I watched like 4 shows tonight, but this one definitely stood out over the others (Fear, Leftovers, Strain)

Was I the only one who didn't pick up on it being related to the Hezbollah Council communication? (Until they started talking about it)

After the shit show of season 4 I'm cautiously optimistic after the first episode. There's some garbage, post-snowden spygate stuff and the magic van but there's a chance this might actually be a proper season of Homeland.

I can't remember the Season 4 ending.
But I fucking loved Season 4

But I fear I blocked the Season 4 ending from my mind for a reason
