Not that I would dislike single payer, but let's not kid ourselves, it would take a lot more than that. It would take substantial tax increases across the board, and the movement of military money (which I'm cool with).

Healthcare is expensive, and reform is complicated.

Sometimes i question my sanity when i see people say single payer will tank the economy and i think to myself... if only we stop playing world police and divert some of that 600 billion yearly budget back to other programs.

This could lead to a lot of interesting stuff (where does the blame go? Who does Trump take aim at first? Who do the people who wanted this to go through get angry at? All of them?), and would make for great viewing if there weren't so many lives on the line (including some in my own family). The next few hours/days may reveal a lot of deep fractures that have only been hinted at so far.

Susan Powers asked the CIA who some [redacted] US citizens communicating with foreign spies/agents under surveillance were. They turned out to be members of the Trump campaign.

That's it. The request itself is a total non-story, but Fox et al. are treating it as if the Obama administration had it out for Trump while ignoring the whole Trump's team communicating with foreign agents bit.

Do you honestly expect republicans about the soldiers in this? Their train of thought ends with single payer benefiting poor people and minorities (of course EVERYONE benefits, but can't have the poors and/or blacks have a better life!)

Ryan totally screwed the pooch when he declared the House to be in Martial Law this morning. That sent the message there was an alternate plan in place that did not include Committee. Of course the problem was they ran out of time as far as august recess so he was basically forced to announce the sleaze plan ahead of time.

Flake, at least, isn't in a good position no matter what. He's threatened by primaries from the right and losing the general from the left. He probably thought challenges from the right were a bigger threat and he could muddle through the general which is more than a year away, but the fact that the GOP forced senators into making an unpopular choice like this speaks to the party's dysfunction.

Getting rid of all of the middle men and being able to control costs of procedures and medications by taking what they actually cost into account instead of charging as much as possible will mean the cost isn't as high as it is now.

I can still barely breathe. This has been a brutal night... how I should have felt on election night, really. As usual, we should all be extremely thankful that the ruling party is full of idiots and that they're unable to do anything whatsoever with a unified Republican government.

I'm sure every hospital, specialist, and general practitioner would appreciate timely and full payment 100% of the time as well, which would lower costs.

No one loses on purpose. They rolled Pence out, McConnell was exuberant until the very moment McCain voted. They expected to win tonight. This was an utter failure for senate republicans, specifically McConnell's leadership.

You're correct, but that cost goes entirely into the public sector. Again, I'm not against it, indeed I'm for it (or some sort of UHC system, don't really care which), but it would cost a bit more than moving a tiny bit out of the military. It'd still be at least 10% of our GDP, maybe more, and that's billions/trillions of dollars.

Oh, I know. I pay about 40% of my income in taxes. But the peace of mind is worth it. Knowing I won't be financially ruined by a hospital stay or lose my insurance if I lose my job - that's bliss.

Very true, it's not cheap but it's necessary and it's feasible, we are the richest country in the world if there was a will it would be done. It needs to be done.

What makes you think McConnell wouldn't have called off voting on the bill and hope to wait out McCain's cancer? He held the SC seat for the slim chance of Trump winning and it worked out for him before.

Can someone clarify why the GOP senator was saying that the next repeal bill can't use reconciliation and need 60 votes? If that's the case, and McCain suckered McConnell into holding the vote, he will die with my eternal gratitude, regardless of the thousands of other votes of his I disagreed with.
