Sorry to hear that man.

The symptoms you have described, and I started shaking there, were the symptoms my grandmother had and she passed away four months ago. Smoker all her life and then, drastic weight loss, no strenght, problems talking, etc. Fucking cancer.

I don't want to sound bad or anything, so please don't take it that way. I wish you all the best and for you to get through it.
But still, recording words isn't a bad idea and you should still prolly do it.

Fuck every type of cancer there is.

By any chance do you use listerine alot too?

Can you elaborate? Something with using listerine and smoking or only listerine that does something?

Oh god. Not being able to taste food or drink anymore. That's horrible.

I hope you don't need to have your tongue removed. Not being able to speak is honestly minor, with all the tech we have today. But not being able to enjoy a steak, or a beer, or ice cream? That's a hellish punishment.

I pray for you, man. Hopefully this is just a (SUCCESSFUL) scare.

Ive read stories of people getting mouth cancer who have never smoked in there life but use listerine. And theres some studies that connect the use of alcohol based mouthwashes with mouth cancer.

Whoa. Thank you. I never though about it since I don't use "bacteria bombs", but good to know nevertheless.

So sorry, OP. My grandfather on my father side had tongue cancer. I also think it extended to his jaw once. When I was born he was already post-surgery. My cousins and myself always had trouble understanding him, but I don't remember him being bitter about it. He was always caring and he was surrounded by a big family that loved him, and he loved us back.

I don't know if I am getting the point accross, but no matter how tough it is, I hope you pull yourself through and have a wonderful loving family by your side.

Really sorry to hear that, but I'm also inspired by your positive outlook. Given the awesome breakthroughs in science and technology we have, I'm sure you'll be able to find a comfortable lifestyle for yourself.

Sorry for the big bump, but I've seen a lot of Wiicast posts recently and wondered what happened with this. Wiicast, are things better?

I'm so sorry, OP, but when I got to the operation part I immediately thought of this:

That being said, you should be able to make sounds, just not form them into words. The real kicker is the loss of taste. Really, just take a visit to the Flavour Corridor in New Jersey and ask to sample everything they have before you go in for surgery. Cram in as much gustatory experience as you can while you're still able to.

Note the time of the OP.

I don't think you lose your taste fully if you lose your tongue, i think there are tastebuds elsewhere in the mouth, not just the tongue, right?

The vast majority are on your tongue. Problem is that food is much more than taste, there's texture, mouthfeel, aroma etc. that have to be accounted for, all of which are assessed with the tongue. It really is a more important sensory organ than we give it credit for.

And silly me for not noticing the dates. I assumed it was a new thread, read the OP and responded.

Welp. Long story short I probably have tongue cancer. After numerous doctor visits and ruling out other diseases, I'm going to an oral cancer specialist Monday.

If the diagnosis is confirmed and they want to operate I will never be able to speak again. At this point it's still up in the air but its not looking good.

So GAF, my Internet buddies, how would you cope?

My idea is to record every word in the dictionary and get some Stephen Hawkins shit going on. I'm definitely going to have to learn ASL so any gaffers who are fluent and would like to Skype or Facetime let me know.

I know this thread is a downer but honestly, I'm not that depressed. Probably since I know it's my own fault for smoking for so long.

Edit: I'm at work but will be checking tread periodically.

You probably dont need to record every word, just all the phonemes

Smell is a big part of taste, specifically when it comes to subtleties, if you have runny nose, you ain't going to taste much.
AFAIK, not sure if that's the actual reason...

Still, one doesn't lose all of his or her sense of taste.
I'm an optimist...

EDIT apologies for slight off-topic.

God Damn It.

Alcohol-free from now on.

Edit: Hang in there, WiiCast.
