Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
I enjoyed Spectre, but it felt extremely phoned in. I don't even have a strong desire to rewatch it because I know I'll just pick it apart. It definitely sits under Skyfall for me. And it really does have a lazy final act. I didn't find the escape or final set piece the least bit interesting. When Bond blew up the facility with a couple shots I just thought to myself "Well...that wasn't very satisfying."

But I can still walk away from it and say it was better than Die Another Day, which I enjoy watching with the Director's Commentary to get a glimpse into wtf they were thinking with that one.

The books by Fleming have all been re-issued and I just bought the set for Kindle since it's like $35 rather than $100 individually. Hope I enjoy them.

When can we expect some Bond 25 announcements? These people seem to take forever to get these films going.
It will begin filming late next year or Spring 2018 for a fall 2018 release. The producer just commented that last month, so this means they are likely still early in pre-production. They have admitted the Craig era moved slower than planned. We don't know if he'll return for another movie that far from now.

Do you have a link to that?

As far as I know they haven't been reissued, the copyright on them has lapsed allowing for anyone to sell them on the Kindle store.

The copyright is intact in the USA where I am. The publisher updated them on the kindle store

I wouldn't mind a new Bond. Casino Royale was a top 3 film for the franchise and they've stepped further from it with each entry. Mendes was comic book revenge theatrical hell when it came to plot. If they aren't going to close out Craig era with a grounded entry like his first outing, they should move on and try to make a new Casino Royale quality film with a new guy.

Martin Campbell seems specialized in directing Bond reboot entries w/ Goldeneye & Casino Royale.

CR was a great reboot of the series. A decent gritty response to a post-Jason Bourne world of espionage drama, but the films since have traded too much on tired formula beats, coupled with unnecessary referencing and cheap callbacks to other earlier films (that are going to ultimately age like wine in the long run) plus of course the weird need by the writers to make the relationships between Bond and the villains somehow personal as they've proceeded (who wanted that? Did they not see Austin Powers? )with some eye rolling retcons, and the perpetuation of some really uncomfortable misogynistic elements.

I don't really care who the next Bond is, just as along as they get away from the tired formula, the referencing, navel gazing and misogyny. I think it's possible to do a modern Bond that achieves all of that but still delivers a cinematic experience, it just requires writers who give a damn.

So you want James Bond to... not be James Bond...

This is what I want. CR had so much potential, I overlooked many of QoS' faults because it continued some of the trends I liked. Then Skyfall happened and somehow all of the old continuity came with it except not? and Bond was suddenly too old for the job though it was "too early to promote him" two movies prior. Very muddled understanding of what exactly happened there. Then Spectre happened and it became very obvious the writers didn't understand the proper scope for the series.

I'm not sure how asking for less comfort food predictability, building a film's narrative on its own strengths, versus throwaway nostalgic referencing and clawing back on the misogyny would somehow be a bad thing for the series going forward? Feel free to argue the case for these things, though.

QoS was a muddled film for sure. I think if they'd had a tighter script and better director on board the film would have done better critically and commercially and subsequently the producers wouldn't have felt the necessity to go running back to the triteness of Skyfall and Spectre.

Interesting. I wonder if that would happen, and we would see a totally different film.

It got hit by the writer's strike, right? So had to be padded out with longer action scenes and still ended up a shorter film.
Yep. Craig said it was left so bare bones that him and the director had to write stuff in and come up with scenes that were more atmosphere and action without talking.

I'm okay with Daniel staying on as James Bond for the next two movies. I'm more interested in who will pen the next scripts. They got to improve after the average-ness that was Skyfall and Spectre. And get back to the quality of at least Quantum of Solace.

I really do hope that he does carry on for another two or three films to complete the story that he's been telling in the role. I think his final film should be about the end of James Bond, his death.

I'd like to see them leave it a few years to let to rest and then they can almost start again with the next series of films.

I do see the Daniel Craig era of films as their own entity in story and tone and I'd like that to continue with whomever creates the new films. I love that there's been a single story running through these films to set up Blofeld and I think it's really important that it continues through the remainder of the current series.

They need to stick with creatives who make serious films rather than action films even though the Bond 25 doesn't have to be serious itself. For me, there now needs to be a certain weight to the films, a certain maturity for them to work.

Kinda random but I just saw Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Cavill could probably be a pretty good Bond, or at least I think so.

Last winter my wife and I went through all the movies. Was good times. I imagine we will do the same around the next Bond release.
