Daniel Craig is one of THE WORST Bonds ever.

Both Casino Royal and Quantom of Solice were horrible, the latter being the worst of the two.
He's not the worst, not the best either. No one can even come close to SSSSHEAN!

That said, CR sucked.

CR car crash (which I think is a terrible scene in a otherwise brilliant flick).
:lol

Holy fuck I just realized that in addition to John Logan, one of the writers behind the script is Patrick 'Closer' Marber! No wonder Craig was so happy with the script. This bond is going to be fucking ace. With that talent behind the writing, Mendes in the big chair and Deakins lensing the thing, this will be hard to fuck up.

Solo, what the hell is that in your avatar?

I lost an avatar bet from NHL-GAF. For one week I have to keep this fatass Maple Leaf as my avatar.

James Bond (avatar) will return in...

ONE WEEK

I would say Tintin would do around $600 million WW.

There Will Be Bond
11th October 2011

Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem has had his name associated with the James Bond franchise and a possible role in James Bond 23 since it was leaked to the industry newswires that Bardem had been approached by high-ranking Eon Productions officials and courted for a role in the forthcoming picture. MI6 now understands that the offer came from Producer Barbara Broccoli herself.

This news first broke in January 2011, and quickly became the first creditable of rumour of the 007 casting season. The same month Bardem spoke to the media about the posibility of being Bond's new enemy but was sure to enphasise that nothing was final. He made clear to a journalist that it was not a slam-dunk and he would carefully read the script that Sam Mendes provided before signing onto the production.

At the same time, Bardem let slip that the role was a great offer and he was a long-time James Bond fan. "When I was little, I went watching Mr. Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I'd be in one of those movies? They're changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic," the Spanish actor explained. "I'd be playing Bond's nemesis, yes, but it's not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced."

The promised role would not be the only thing that was shady, as by April 2011, another fantastic offer was on the table for the actor: the lead in the Stephen King penned "Dark Tower" series. Again, industry experts were confident that the role belonged to Bardem, should he choose to accept the offer. However, the studio responsible for the "Dark Tower", Universal, delayed financing a potential trilogy in order to make budget cuts. By July 2011 the option on the rights to the King material was up and Bardem was back in the hot seat for James Bond.

However, it would take until September for Bardem's name to make news in association with 007 once more. Current star Daniel Craig let slip in an MTV interview that Javier Bardem and the other likely contender for a role, Englishman Ralph Fiennes, were both still in the picture, saying "I hope so", when asked directly if the two stars were to be involved in his third James Bond adventure.

The rumours were confirmed this week when Bardem answered a direct question on the subject of his upcoming villainous role in James Bond 23. In an interview with ABC's Nightline, Bardem was asked to tell viewers "about the next villain you are going to play, in James Bond". To which the actor replied, "I am very excited, my parents took me to watch the movies, and I saw all of them, and to play that is going to be fun. They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details."

I hope they've got a great look/style planned for this one. I'm imagining an absolute visual feast and ughgghghgh I can't wait for this.

Roger. Deakins.

I can tell you without seeing a single frame that this will be, by a large margin, the best looking Bond film.

Oh I know. His work on The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is soooo gooooooood. I'm not worried about the cinematography at all. I'm talking more like costumes, set design, and location choices.

I love Deakins, but I can still wish Conrad Hall was alive, right?

Oh, well I don't think you need to worry about that either. Tom Ford is designing Craig's suits in this one (Craig wore a lot of Tom Ford stuff in QoS too), so he will look swank as fuck.

Javier Bardem should be good one. I like what I saw from No Country for Old Men few weeks ago, almost remind me of Jaws (Old Bond's villain)

There will also be the traditional pre-commencement of principal photography press conference next month. First time Craig, Mendes, maybe Bardem, hopefully a confirmed Bond girl, etc. address the media.

EDIT: I had ducky change the title, Penguin.

I hated Quantum Of Solace but I do have high hopes for this.

I have a feeling that MGM's money 'woes' will again become an issue at some point in the future but at least we're getting a third Daniel Craig Bond film.

Small victories and all that.

You know

I LOVE quantum of Solace these days. I just see it for what it is, not a good James Bond movie, but a pretty awesome action movie.

Why is the name of that article "There Will Be Bond"? Did someone get There Will Be Blood confused with No Country For Old Men?

After Mads Mikkelson's awesome Le Chiffre, the ecoterrorist dude in QoS was a total letdown. He hardly had a personality, other than being a prick. He actually resembled a bond villain from Pierce Brosnan's bond movies (post Goldeneye, of course). Looks like we're returning back to Casino Royale level of great with a superb actor for main villain.

Bardem is Blofeld? Please?

Btw because people here seem to better informed than me. Was there ever an explanation of what the Daniel Craig movies are in connection to the old movies? Is it a reboot? The old ones felt like it was the same character being played by a different guy each time. Craig feels like a new character with the same name. Though I really do like the new movies, OHMSS is one of my all time favorites and these movies feel more like that.

The end of the movie has been confirmed as being shot here, in Scotland:

Wouldn't it be cool if Daniel Craig meets up a retired 00 agent in that castle, who happens to be none other than Sean Connery? He could most probably be the only surviving double 0 agent :O Sean Connery then reveals to Craig that he is his father.

Its better just to not think about it, Bruce, lolz. Or at least think of it as thus: There is Connery through Brosnan continuity, and then there is Craig continuity. Not a reboot, not a prequel, just a new/alternate film canon, one that is much more faithful to the source than the previous film canon.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new-era Bond spend a reasonable amount of its runtime set in the UK. Of course you want some globetrotting too.

The apparent addition of Moneypenny, and now the confirmation of a Scottish castle for the conclusion (and one which is pretty clearly Scottish as all get-out - there's no way that place exists anywhere outside of the UK), makes me wonder if Skyfall will more heavily feature internal MI6 politics as one of the driving elements of the plot. Bardem's accent is heavy enough that he can't possibly be portrayed as a UK native, though, so I highly doubt he'll be some sort of double agent or anything.

It's pretty much a certainty that Bond will be pursuing his remaining leads on Quantum in this film, yes?

and then Pierce Brosnan comes out and they all start singing Mama Mia.

I don't think we'll see Blofeld again, but at best, a character with a similar role.

Quantum is a replacement for Spectre. I think Spectre gets too tied up with competing rights.

I do believe that with McClory's death all the SPECTRE/Blofeld rights reverted back to EON. But I can't see them ever using them during Craig's tenure.

But but... Judy Dench and that guy who plays Tanner.... wtf?!

Also, bringing back Blofeld would be amazing. OHMSS FOREVER! I don't care if SPECTRE doesn't make any damn sense.

I told you not to think about it! lol

In all seriousness though, a lot of that confusion could have been easily avoided by re-casting M in Casino Royale, but EON understandably didn't want to cut ties with Judi Dench.

Did Tanner just come as a package deal then? I mean I always like his character when he shows up, but he's not exactly an "essential" cast member.

Although if you really want to split hairs, you could argue that Judi Dench has played two different M's for two different Bonds. There really is a difference between her interactions and relationship with Brosnan's Bond and Craig's Bond. With Brosnan the relationship seemed a bit more colder and more professional, whereas with Craig there is almost a motherly vibe to it, which I love.

No. They are done with that.
I wasn't aware that they had said as much. Interesting.

I won't be surprised at all if they return as a plot element at some point in the future, but I'm glad the films won't be locking themselves into using them as the villain every single time.

QoS (despite having its fans, me being one of them) was pretty lukewarm in its reception amongst critics and moviegoers, and just barely outgrossed CR (and made less if you account for inflation). So it was pretty much guaranteed at that point that they were going to throw the baby out with the bath water and start fresh for Bond 23. A return to one-off adventures is what I imagine the rest of Craig's tenure will be.

Ah, yeah. CR and QoS were so good that I almost forgot that the Broccoli family is insane and incredibly controlling.

I can appreciate this, but I don't see why they can't go Fringe style and just bookend a one-off story with overarching story elements at the beginning and end. "OMG the big bad guy from this movie is somehow connected to whatsherface from QoS!"
