Jeep Cherokee Gaf, Help me.

I've been hunting down a late 90's Jeep Cherokee sport all over the south and central FL and ran into a 1998 sport (details below). I ran the VIN and everything seems fine, but my big question is the price (seller is asking for 5.9k), generally, I see these cars run from 2500-3500, but with ODO up to 150k+, this one has 95k and according to carfax has never been rolled back. Also, the body seems fine and the rust doesn't seem terrible considering this car is from 97. I'm going to meet up with the seller next week (bringing my mechanic and a car dealer, who I know personally). The buyer seemed open to negotiations after our phone call today, so how much do you guys think the car is worth?

Why?

I drove one of them once. The sterring wheel was connected to something. Certainly didnt feel like the front wheels tho.

Never been a fan, such a narrow wheel base it feels like it’s going to barrel roll if you hit a turn going over 30. I always assumed they were good off-road though.

Love how those older Jeeps look. I would go with a lifted Wrangler tho….

Unless you took it to an actual mechanic dont bother commenting on the engine or transmission the thing is decades old you never know when something could suddnely break. And I'd ask for half what hes asking

Gravity is a myth, the Earth SUCKS!
I'd have to agree with trainedrage, wranglers just look sexier. My expertly advice would be to not get a jeep at all, but if you're gonna get one then at least get the one with more aesthetic appeal.

I used to own an '86 Cherokee. It came with a weird, carburetted, 120 hp 2.8 liter V6 that was apparently only available in Switzerland. I think that was the engine the Pontiac Fiero had as well.

I really loved that car, although the fuel economy was awful for so little power.

It's not fun owning a Jeep on the Canary Islands, though; the torque inverter from the transmission broke, and since this engine/gearbox wasn't available in Spain, Chrysler Spain couldn't get me a replacement inverter. I remember I drove to them and their parts department let me look through all their microfiches to try and find the part number I needed (no computer parts catalogue, ewww!) without luck. I ended up ordering the damn thing from Germany, all it took was one phone call to an American parts specialist that had an ad in a used car market magazine.

The car is also highly impractical. I bought a 28" tube TV back then when I had the car, and I remember I had to take the TV out of its box because the box wouldn't fit in the car! The car is really small inside. The rear seats have no leg room, and the seating position in the rear is shit for an adult. The position the steering wheel is at is also uncomfortable. But the car has lots of charm and I love the chunky American styling.

P.S.: So that car you are looking at has no four wheel drive?! I'd never buy a Jeep I can't go jeeping with... Mine had the Selec-Trac, whatever that means :D
