Justin Bieber banned from China for 'bad behaviour'

Bieber will jet into Asia later this year as part of his Purpose World Tour with shows scheduled in Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore and Hong Kong. But Beliebers in mainland China look set to be disappointed.

In a statement posted on its website this week, Beijing’s culture bureau explained that unspecified misdemeanours meant the artist, who has had repeated run-ins with the law - including for drunken drag racing in a yellow Lamborghini - was unsuitable for Chinese ears.

“Justin Bieber is a gifted singer, but he is also a controversial young foreign singer,” said the bureau, which was answering a fan’s demand for a “detailed explanation” about the former teen star’s absence from Chinese stages.

The bureau did not detail the exact behaviour that had landed Bieber in its bad books, saying only that in order to “purify” China’s performing arts it had decided the singer’s exclusion was appropriate.

Apparently their keyboardist actually met with the Dalai Lama.

Shouldn't be surprising. China tries to smack down anyone who meets with him. Politicians even, let alone musicians who they can just ban.

It's insane and wrong on their part but they have a hardline stance of not acknowledging Tibet's independence or its political leader the Dalai Lama.

FYI, the drunken drag racing in the Lambo was in Florida.

ETA: Recklessly driving drunk is not going to get you a prison sentence in the US. At most, a little jail time. And I've known people who have been given DUI citations and let go by the police (obviously not in their car), no bail or anything.

The fact that you call it a "War Crime Shrine" only serves to show you are even more ignorant than you claim him to be. There are thousands upon thousands of names enshrined their to remember every person who has died in an act of war for hundreds of years of history in the country and is an incredibly important location in the Shinto, not Buddhist faith. Despite this thanks to a handful names secretly enshrined a few years after WW2, all that history is apparently meaningless and it is nothing more than a "War Crime Shrine".

They'll probably still play his music though. Chinese shows lift foreign music for use like crazy, presumably without paying royalties. Bieber's Baby is used as a "theme" for Angelababy on Running Man, I don't see that changing any time soon lol

Thread about it the other day. Some politician came out saying they need to address the 'black problem' or something.

There are loads of other horrific adverts, statements, etc about black people in China. They are opening loads of trade deals with African countries and pouring money into Africa but seem to be xenophobic about African people immigrating.

What do you expect in a country where women bleach their skin and have eye surgery to look more western? To them dark skin equals farm workers equals poor. My wife's sister-in-law constantly complains about how brown her skin is, it's crazy.
