They did the same thing for MAG didn't they? Must have had good results for them to repeat it.

This and the idea of full size PS3 games (Mass Effect 3) being available day and date on PSN is great news. More of this Sony.
Now, if only they were more flexible with some of the pricing they've got going on.
MAG never had a SP component.
I think Valve really made a mistake not having CS:S on PS3 day one from the Store. They'd have cultivated a strong player base on there from that. Trying to do it with CS:GO five/six years in after CoD has created a dictatorship is pointless.True, that convenience for a multiplayer you're going to play a lot is nice.
Does the level cap mean the multiplayer gets "locked" off to you upon reaching a certain rank? Or do you get to keep playing forever, just not able to rank up any longer?
Either way this is a pretty cool idea.
Right, but they put the full game for free with a level cap.
FREAKING SWEET!
I love Killzone 3 MP, even more than I loved KZ2 mp. All told, betas included, I've probably put in over 400 hours into KZ3 online. I was just playing this game SP since I got a 3D tv and its blowing my mind all over again, fourth time through the game or not.
I'm probably going to buy this so I don't have to put the KZ3 disc in, and so that if I ever can't get to my PS3, being in the US Navy and all, I'll still be able to download and play the KZ3 MP.
KZ3 has, in my opinion, the best multiplayer for an FPS ever created. Full stop. No other game compares in my eyes. Its squad based proximity ability mechanics dwarf the teamwork and cooperation in any other game, and the gunplay is just utterly superb. Its a shame that there are people in this world that don't understand how awesome KZ3 is online. Gonna go play right now. Gotta let my clan know the awesome news!
Which clan are you in?
Sounds like a good idea to me. They should do this more often. I am sure more people might buy CoD/BF is they could just get the Online potion.
It's a good idea for mid tier multiplayer games like KZ3, not really good for the likes of CoD/BF.
this business model is more suited for MAG or other multiplayer game with character clothes customization. sell the mp for free with level cap, add micro transaction for various cosmetic clothes, weapon skin, helmet etc that doesn't affect the balance.
I was going to get offended, then I realized you probably thinks CoD has good MP. So I started laughing.
Now I just kinda pity you.
Regarless, KZ3 mp is not "mid tier" in any way, shape or form.
So you can essentially play KZ3 MP forever on all the maps? You just got a lvl cap? Thats pretty sweet
It's mid tier in sales.
Obviously not forever because you'll level up.
I reckon once you hit, say, level 10, it'll ask you to pay up if you want to continue playing.
It's mid tier in sales.
CoD and BF already sell 10-20 million copies at $60. No way they would sell just the MP for $15.

I wasn't aware you could play sales.
And for those thinking they'll stop at the level cap, thats gonna be tough because:
1) KZ3 doesn't separate levels like KZ2 did. You're gonna be playing against CiC
2) If the level cap is really low, like level 10 as I suspect, that means you will get 10 unlock points
3) Fully unlocking one class takes 22 unlock points
4) A single tier 3 unlock takes a total of 5-6 points to get.
So you will be playing against people who heal 3x faster than you, have super-tracking airbots, rocket firing turrets, infinite sprint, perfect disguise, and radar invisibility.
And you won't even have a pistol. You'll have a level 1 gun and one fully leveled ability in one class.
Good luck!
Only mid tier games? That would suck. If AAA multiplayer centric games could install on my PC hard drive in the 90's why can't they 2 decades later on my console? Sometimes the slow progression of these console cycles kill me, because I used to be a huge PC gamer and now get my MP fix on consoles. As another poster said above me it would be great to have the option install full MP on my PS3's hard drive and then I could go from game to game without wasting time putting multiple discs in.
This makes me not want to play more than anything.I wasn't aware you could play sales.

And I may have lied A LITTLE when I said they don't break up levels. They do. But the squad system makes it so they might as well not bother.
Speaking of the squad system, if you're not in a full squad in KZ3, you're probably wasting your time.
I do have some problems with the MP but it's mainly in regards to the map design. TSP work on some maps but are just a mess on others. Radec and Akmir are clusterfucks most of the time but Bilgarsk and Frozen Dam are amazing.

You're making the game sound horrible.Abilities are secondary to skilled aim anyway. I frequently use level 1 guns over level 3 guns depending on the situation. I hardly ever use the Sta3 (lv3) on the engineer since I much prefer to use the Sta11 (lvl1). But its the leveled up abilites that make the difference. Repairing ammo crates is easy points when they take 2 seconds to fix, but when you first get the repair tool they take ~8 seconds to fix.
And capturing points, a fully leveled tact can do it 5 seconds, but a level 1 takes 15 seconds.
The basic gun for the medic is beastly and I use it all the time, and they still heal at 3x the rate of every other class, but without leveling up that healing doesn't effect nearby teammates, they don't get a triage robot, they can't revive themselves, they can't revive teammates either. And low-level revives are guaranteed death, since you revive with 25% health and 1/2 ammo. A fully leveled revive gives you 125% health, and max ammo and grenades.
Abilities are secondary to good aim in getting kills, but they all start to stack up.
