Early thoughts are that they will be a very, very addictive online mode. If there is any specific mode or map you all want to see, let me know and I'll get some footage of it.

Why doesn't the pirhanna team just wait near the jail to block it from being open?

I guess there is some decent strategy this mode could have. Hoping that voice-chat app comes sooner rather than later.

Battle screen basically confirms that there isn't a non-timed mode. Really disappointing. still excited for battle, but this does lower my hype quite a bit.

Sure can. You can do just a 2-player battle mode locally.

Any additions to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are exclusive to it. So no, the Wii U version won't be updated with any of the new features.

welp. Guess my optimism about survival Balloon Battle being possible was incorrect going by GameXplain's menu video where they briefly go over the rule selection for all the battle modes. Even though you can adjust the timer for Balloon Battle, there is no setting for the timer to be infinite -- the max time you can set is 5 minutes and the minimum is 1 minute. What a huge disappointment.

I suppose I will just barely touch Balloon Battle unless I find it fun with a timer anyway -- which I doubt.

I guess Shine Thief or one of the other modes will be better now.

Shine Thief is easily the best battle mode.
I honestly love how long the match can get if everyone has a chance to steal the Shine Sprite at some point.

There was a video a few days ago where the match lasted around 6 minutes iirc. Crazy stuff. Can't wait to play it.
