these sales are from last week. so the v5 effect(if any) should be evident next week

Whoops. The fact still stands that PS3 is suckin' wind in Japan compared to PS2 at the same point in their respective lifespans. I guess we'll see how that new bundle changes things.

I think most people would buy the console with the game. It's not like they're going out of stock.

And VF5 will most likely not move too many units in Japan. It's a game that anyone can go out and play in an Arcade.

Read what I typed again. I said there should be at least a some people buying in preperation for the release. At least. That's what I would have thought. It's what I do when I'm expecting a game the week after.

Just surprised sales went down. When by all accounts I honestly thought it would be slightly increased.

Seriously who cares? It's just a 3rd color on the chart at this point. No reason to rub it in every single week. We know exactly what role it plays and nothing, NOTHING, is going to change its stance in Japan.

As somone pointed out, when the console is apparently in good supply, there's no need to buy ahead of time - just walk in on the day & grab the game + system...

Ouch for the Wii, seems to have dropped quite some.
Sales are down from last week for most (if not all systems/games) though right? But in any case, still around a, 15k drop, I believe?

With the launch of Cooking Mama, Fire Emblem, and Naruto, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Wii pushing 60-85,000 units per week. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it settles at around 45-55,000 units during the off-season and through the summer.

Where the heck have you been? X360's been 'joked on' since its launch. The expectations were low to begin with there for MS, but not so with Sony and the PS3...

I think we'll have to see at least another week or two before making any judgement about that - a 15k drop could be shortages, a temporary blip or the beginning of a fall-off in demand... but on the basis of one week it's difficult to say.

This is Japan. If something is popular, you don't just 'walk in'. You line up for a few hours.

Actually I asked my Japanese friends about this camping out culture of theirs. And they all said its only within the gaming culture.

There's always the possibility that people who wanted PSP for MH already bought it for the first, but sales should definitely go up. PSP kinda reminds me of GC/N64-- usually not much of a presence in the charts, but has the occasional #1 release.

Heh. I still think it's unlikely you would see a significant spike from advance buyers, though - as I said, the system seems to be readily available and I'd imagine a substantial section of the audience for VF5 will already own the system.

The DS took 87 weeks to cross 10m
The DS is going to take 114 weeks to cross 15m
(26 weeks to go from 10m to 15m)

The PS2 took 137 weeks to cross 10m
The PS2 is going to take 220 weeks to cross 15m
(83 weeks to go from 10m to 15m)

The DS is utterly destroying the PS2 sales figures.

This statistic would be really pointless as GC sales have been insignificant for a long time now.
