i'm sure some of the j-gaffers could vouch for this more than i can, but it happens, especially since japan tends to be bigger into trading / used sales that north america is.

I was just about to ask about occurrences like this.

Japanese retailers get such huge amounts of stock for so many games. Seems to happen a lot more than NA retailers too.

Weird.. my friend is looking for a copy of ExciteTruck in my town and we haven't seen one for months. New or used. When the game launched my city got about a dozen copies and never got any more. THATS where they are... collecting dust in Tokyo. Send a few of those over there! (especially at that price)

Also my town got a total of 6 copies of Captain Rainbow. But I gues that was enough, they have still only sold 4 of them. :(

The Tokyo Immigration Bureau took 6 weeks to process my visa. The Meguro City Office is going to take 3 weeks to process my gaijin card. The lines are much longer here. =(

PM me if you need me to buy anything in Akiba!

The absolute greatest thing about this article is the very last caption on the very last thumbnail, "Opoona was there as well." Even among bombas, Opoona is an afterthought :lol

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

In other news, 428 is only due to ship 50-60,000 next week, but pre-orders have seen a sharp increase with the Famitsu perfect score.

Forgive my ignorance, but does that mean retailer pre-orders are increasing so the first shipment might be higher?

What was driving PS3 sales this week? Did 15000 people think Last Remnant was coming out for PS3 today too, and then just buy Resistance 2 instead? :lol

Surprised that it beat out the 360 but hey, maybe this is the beginning of the turnaround!

Hoffman, is it really so hard for you to give MS a little credit for their strategy in Japan this gen? They'll easily double the sales of the xbox over there... and whilst they'll still not be a major player or particularly significant in the greater scheme of things it is an achievement that should be recognised.

yup, although there efforts really haven't been noticed by the audience they have changed brand for the better, It'll be real interesting to see how the Xbox3 performs

When I went to get mine, I simply asked for a paper version certifying that my gaijin card was on its way. The bank took that and let me sign up for one. Have things changed, or are your circumstances different?

Oh, really? I've got the certificate saying I applied for the gaijin card. I guess I'll go try and see if it's passable. Thanks!

They are not. The blog just exaggerated things. Some of those games were best sellers when they came out.

Be careful, because this is a sheet you have to pay like ¥300 for. It's a bit different from the receipt. I still think I have mine somewhere so I'll find it and PM you the name of the document. If you never paid, then go back and see if you can get it.

Pretty good sales for Animal Crossing. It should keep on selling at a high rate with Christmas approaching.

Hopefully enormous CT sales means a new entry in the series :D ... Do it S-E!

How popular is the Klonoa series? What were the original sales of the game for PSX and can we expect the Wii version to sell decently? I want it in Europe, but I'm not sure it's been given a date, so it probably depends on the sales of the Japanese version...

The PS1 version of the Wii game was the best-selling in the series (at least from my numbers) at 113K. Next highest was 74K (PS2 sequel). For the Wii version, 50K LTD, 25K first week?

Yea actually I remember Namco considered it something of a bomb(relative to what they expected) - it was curious they bothered with the sequel at all. Then again, we all know about them and their sales "expectations".

K1 is on Japanese PSN now isn't it? Is this the first time Wii has a better version of multiplatform game then a HD console? :p

Layton games have reeeeaally long legs, just like Nintendo did with AC Level 5 is probably preparing for the holidays.

If they're setting their expectations that low, why bother porting in the first place? Shipping bugged discs probably didn't help things either.

Few points interesting to note:
- Layton 2 first day was 195k, so the 3rd one compares pretty well
- PES 2009 is down on both PS3 (107k) and 360 (7k) despite not releasing on PS2 which did 155k last year.
- Yugioh GX3 blows past GX first day (18k) and GX2 same period (22k)
- Kenka Banchou 3 off to a nice start since 1 and 2 on PS2 did ~40k for their respective first weeks
- Orochi Musou PSP did 50k first week, so far 20k for the second in its first day
- Tamagotchi at 7k, lol. First one sold over a million.
- Agarest Senki PS3 total around 20k, X360 first day 1.6k

Poor 360. Retailers really don't have any faith in it do they? :(

?

I'd say it was quite the opposite with this game since they ordered "a lot" and only sold 23 % of the shipment. Or am I mistaken ?

They ordered 225k vs ~25k total, that's like a 9:1 ratio. It's obvious which version is being pushed.

Oh, Konami. Trying hard pushing PES on PS3 and not only losing sales on the Wii version (that will be released late -AGAIN) but also losing the most important sales on PS2. Well deserved. You are rewarded with the same sales as last years PS3 version so far.

For what it's worth, Opoona was already gone from the Sofmap bargain table when I was there this evening.

That could just mean they're using the other copies to prop open various doors around the shop. Or burned them. Or used them as coasters.

They are not. The blog just exaggerated things. Some of those games were best sellers when they came out.

The blog didn't categorize them as bombs. I categorized the bin they were in as a bomba bin. Obviously there's a difference between a game that did well for a long time and just had some overstock in Tokyo, versus a game like Opoona which bombed outright or Doki Doki Majo Shinpan that was overshipped pretty much everywhere.

Of course, with the help of Japan-Gamecharts.com or Garaph.info, you too can make a decision about which are bombs and which are just games that did fine but ended up having overstock at Sofmap in Akihabara.
