Wow, a pretty big week. And it DOES include GW.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G > Wii Fit

It probably won't stay ahead for a long time, but it's still a notable accomplishment.

Updated from my chart last week using the new Famitsu Numbers:

FamChart2008.jpg

Notes:

1) MHP2G will be over 2M next week
2) Mario Kart Wii is quickly closing the gap between it and SSBB. Last week SSBB was 295k units ahead after 3 weeks on the charts. After week for the gap is now ~200k.

When do most GW sales usually come in? Children's day or is it pretty much non-stop the whole hollidays?
I mean we can see effect from it is there, just wondering.

Pretty good week overall. Valkyrie is really slowing down, I thought GW would keep it afloat. Seeing those PS3 numbers it's not really surprising though.

Wii - Ps3 = 6:1

- Great numbers for both Mario Kart and MHP2ndG
- Taiko DS 2 is really doing well, probably will have same legs the prequel had (and without staying more than 1 month out of sales)
- Mario Kart DS passed 3mln, another great result for a DS game
- DS Beautiful Letter Training seems like to have some legs...
- Valkyria Chronicles is not doing but imo, 100k for a niche title on the 2nd platform in Japan which has only 2mln userbase is a good result, 150k seems reasonable
- another Gundam game bombed on DS...
- Deca Sporta legs are solid
- Family Stadium Wii didn't bomb, selling another 4k during the week, not too far from GC release in 2003 (10k 1st week - 15k LTD)
- last, but not least, 8 titles out of 10 are from Nintendo systems, holidays in Japan are always a great time for Nintendo...

Indeed. They dropped the ball on Taiko DS bigtime (between the major supply issues and the game-crashing glitch causing further supply issues). I suspect Taiko DS2 will do around the same as Taiko DS1--no supply interruptions means more sales, second installment on the platform means fewer sales most of the time.

Told us... what? This is literally first week sales. We have no idea about this thing's legs.
Yeah, its most likely to vanish from the charts in the coming weeks, but it sold fairly well after some rather underwhelming first day sales.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

I don't know if it will vanish- it had a first day of 36K and made 90K. That does perhaps bold well for some decent legs.

Just a nice solid week all around, but with few exceptions (Wii, especially, PSP somewhat) I think software is MUCH more impressive than hardware, and I'm usually much more of a hardware whore than software.

So this is basically the first GW, where people didn´t bother to buy games and hardware? The "bumps", if you´ll call them that, are laughable. Is there some kind of market saturation reached, or was there simply no real software releases targeted for GW, as we´ve seen in former years?

I think you should add Wii Fit to that chart, i know it was released last year but it's YTD will probably be higher then both Mario Kart Wii and SSBB by the end of the year.

I dunno if MHP2G has 3 million in it, but it'll be clawing its way there.

Both Mario Karts are going to keep selling until Neo-Zipang gets destroyed in the Great Kaiju Wars of 2479.

I think Brawl can crawl to 2 million with some time.

Links Crossbow Training will crash and burn just like every other Zelda game does in Japan.

PH didn't really revive the series at all over there.

Safe to say MH have reach FF status?

That's hard to say, since the main line FF games move systems and sell well on every platform. MH2 is selling this amazing on the psp only, we'll see how it will do on the wii.

No. The most successful Monster Hunter yet is after a month still not doing quite as well as Final Fantasy XII, which itself did less than VII-X. When MH2PG reaches 2.5 million or XIII launches to lower the FF bar, then we can say streams have crossed.
