Can't really expect Wii Play Motion sales to to spike much when you consider the fact that it's not the only software bundled with the Wii Remote Plus I suppose =/ If people really wanted the Wii Remote Plus, they can just get Wii Sports Resort. It's only if you want a second one that you'd buy Wii Play Motion or Flingsmash. But Wiis nowadays are bundled with two wii remote pluses?

So I'm wondering if any platform dropped its price more than 40% in a single cut, but have only found two tid-bits:
- Dreamcast dropped 50% from 20k to 10k (although it was the 2nd pricedrop, 1st was 30k to 20k so just 33%).
- SNES dubious numbers seemed to go from 25k (for six years) straight to 10k? Would be 60%.

Although I guess the best fit is the european Xbox launch which went from 479€ to 299€ like real soon, 37.5%.

Also worth noting 3DS will go from being the most expensive system after PS3 (30/35k) and 360 320GB/Kinect (30k) to being cheaper than a barebones PSP (17k), a PS2 (16k), the new Wii bundle (20k), 360 4G (20k), DSi LL (18k) and exactly the same as a DSi (15k).

We will probably see very low number for 3ds next 2 weeks. And see if the price drop can save everything.

At this price, I would say DSi/LL sales will almost stop instantly. And it will be interesting to see the response from Sony. It is an unexpected move to Sony (large price drop 3 months before Vita launch) as the same for the price announce of Vita to Nintendo.

I'm so happy they got screwed up and they're losing money. This will put on them such a pressure that they will stop being lazy giving us only remakes. For God's sake: we had more innovation in term of new IP during the Gamecube than whatever we had in last 2 years.

PS3 went from €599 to €399 in less than six months in Europe. That's a pretty big price reduction.

That is also a different story, the 399$ model had nowhere the features of the 599$ model.

I'm guessing Sony will make one last psp price drop in September if 3DS starts doing big numbers

Thanks for pointing that out.
Now I'm stating the obvious here, but that's some extremely agressive pricing. It'll be interesting to see how many of those 10-odd thousand weekly DS(i) buyers will be left after the price cut.

Why *is* that? It's an FPS in Japan on the Wii, it sounds like it should be a perfect storm of poor sales, but it's doing okayish. Is the N64 title better-respected there than we might think?

Seriously, MS should probably not even worry about releasing the next Xbox in Japan. Is it even worth it money-wise? 1,480,754 LTD? Damn, it's almost been passed by 3DS.

I wonder what the price drop will do for 3DS long-term. It will be the ultimate yard stick of whether hardware price of software quality is the deciding factor.

They delayed it to August sometime. I guess to coincide with the price drop.

Devil Survivor 2 should put around 70-80k next week. What do you think?
The first one barely overcame the 100k mark, but it seems it left positive impressions on gamers.

This is true but the price drop is so big that we won't have clear results for the first weeks.

DS price drop must not be far and Wii price drop in Japan must be coming too. 3DS alone can't justify the drop in projected profit.

Nintendo's clarified that there won't be any DSi/XL price drops btw. I could see a Japan Wii drop happening, but the WSR bundle seems to have already turned things around slightly.

Yeah I think the point is to move the 3DS into the DS family of pricing. The DS has still been selling great in the US, putting it $170 next to a $170 DSi XL and a $150 DSi is kinda the point to get people to move to buy the 3DS instead of just getting a DSi or something.

Nintendo clarifies many things. DS won't remain at this time for long unless they want to kill it completely within 6 months.

First day estimates from get-6. Queen's Blade and Devil Survivor 2 did 20-30k

Well Bloomberg were quoting Nintendo saying that the 3DS would be selling for a loss at the new price point. Not sure if the translation was correct, but that would make up a large drop in net profits.

Obviously but they were included at 2011 forecast before Nintendo decides the price drop. They aren't responsible for the new expectations.

I guess there is no way to correctly estimate how the price-drop will affect sales. I expect quite a boost, but how much is what I can`t guess at. Does Pokemon battle release the 4th or 11th, I`m on my phone so can`t look it up.

when was the last time a system was cheaper than it's predecessor while both were being sold?

I thought so. I expect to see a drop in 3DS because of people deciding to wait for the price-drop on the 11th, depending on how aggresive the new price advertisement is.
