Leaked pic of the 919 in Le Mans trim. Tis a fugly beast, but as long as it provides a good race, I don't care:

Hmm, the livery doesn't look too bad on the 911. I'm not digging it on the 919 though.

I hate the huge fin le mans prototypes have. :(

Not too keen on the random broken lines livery, but whatever.

Let me just take the opportunity to say the 991 RSR is a sexy thing. The extra girth on the road car looks really nice, and the extra extra extra girth on the race car looks incredible. It's striking how huge it is though. It looks bigger than it's Ferrari counterpart, which I can't ever remember thinking that before.

I'm not liking how upright and squared-off the front fenders are for LMPs now, but I wonder if the rules still allow for some variation, since Audi ran two different fender designs on the R18: one with a longer leading edge at Le Mans and Spa, and a shorter, more upright one pretty much everywhere else.

Maybe the current look will grow on me, though. If I could get used to the dorsal fins, I suppose anything is possible.

ITV4 will show Moto GP highlights in the UK, so what happened to the exclusive BT Sport deal? I bet they're pissed after hyping up their exclusive coverage - lol

I've always hated this part of the NASCAR schedule because it makes no geographic sense. Phoenix -> Vegas -> BRISTOL -> Cali...

Cost savings people :( Plus, running Martinsville right after Bristol is like a big ratings guarantee (wrecked me at Bristol? I'm gonna pound your ass).

If his season doesn't fall apart in the second half, like it has the last few years, he'll be a real contender for the championship this year.
With the new championship system the winner will be determined 99% by luck.

The 88, 4, and 2 are head and shoulders above the competition in the first 3 races. Which basically means Jimmie johnson is guaranteed another title.

160 to 100 was the figure he gave, but yeah, just chillin' on a Sunday afternoon drive in the 919. Nowhere near stressed.

OK Mulsanne at night, in the rain, with traffic is going to add a few beats, but it's still a surprising large drop-off.

Verizon new IndyCar Series title sponsor

Presenting The 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series (video)

INDYCAR announced today a multi-year entitlement agreement with Verizon that will see North America’s premier open-wheel racing championship named the Verizon IndyCar Series.

The partnership aligns INDYCAR -- the fastest, most versatile motorsports series with a heritage of innovation -- with Verizon, whose technical expertise will be utilized to activate programs that will benefit fans, the series, teams, commercial partners and race venues.

Verizon will also continue its sponsorship of the Verizon P1 Award presented to the Verizon IndyCar Series pole winner at each race.

“Verizon is delighted to become the title sponsor of the INDYCAR series and to bring even more of our innovative technology to the fans, to the teams and to the entire motorsports community,” said Dan Mead, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless. “The intersection of racing and technology has never been more relevant, and our expanded partnership with INDYCAR provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate that synergy, integrate new services like LTE Multicast and help propel the sport forward.”

INDYCAR and Verizon will engage in a multi-dimensional partnership linking sports, entertainment and technology beginning at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which kicks off the 18-race season March 30 (3 p.m. ET on ABC).

“Verizon is the perfect partner for us to showcase the high level of innovation and technology that is inherent in our sport,” said Mark Miles, CEO, Hulman & Co., the parent of INDYCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “INDYCAR will provide a large audience of tech-savvy consumers who are eager for the latest technology to further enhance their experience.

“Verizon’s commitment to INDYCAR demonstrates its belief in the direction of our sport and further corroborates our long-term goals.”

The collaboration includes significant network coverage upgrades to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of its Project 100; short- and long-term technology enhancements to INDYCAR Race Control; the addition of pit lane monitors and enhancing connectivity for spectators at each domestic race venue.

Verizon will also deploy its LTE Multicast solution at racetracks in the future, complementing the Verizon INDYCAR 14 app and indycar.com, the official website of INDYCAR. This emerging technology delivers rich multi-faceted multimedia content to multiple devices at once rather than sending it in a separate stream to each user.

Verizon has been an Official Partner of INDYCAR the past four years and the primary sponsor of the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car driven by Will Power. The relationship with the team owned by Roger Penske will expand for the 2014 season as Verizon also will be the primary sponsor of the No. 2 entry driven by 1999 CART champion and 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya for at least eight races.
The schedule features a total of 18 races: 12 on road and street courses, including three sets of doubleheaders, with standing and rolling starts; and six races on a variety of short ovals and superspeedways, highlighted by the 98th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. The “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” will be held on May 25 (11 a.m. ET, ABC) on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s historic 2.5-mile oval.

In each of the past eight consecutive seasons the Verizon IndyCar Series championship hasn’t been decided until the season finale. The 2014 season concludes with the MAVTV 500 on the two-mile Auto Club Speedway oval Aug. 30 (9 p.m. ET, NBCSN). Last October, Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi Racing earned his third series title.

IndyCar gets their big fish... thanks to Sprint for blocking them from being a sponsor in NASCAR.

The Sprint Cup Series isn't going to get to race tomorrow. It's supposed to rain all day at Bristol. The earliest they're going to be able to race is Monday afternoon. The rain is supposed to move out early Monday morning.

Are they even going to try? I won't be up to watch since it starts early and F1 runs late tonight but wondering if I should even bother setting the DVR.

They'll probably try for a bit, but it won't do any good. The forecast calls for 1"-3" of rain tomorrow. It's going to rain all day. They're never going to get a chance.

They did try for a bit. Only watched until like lap 120 or whenever they took their long red break.

Looks like they finished all 500 laps though, bring on the edited version sometime this week on FS1 (unless they skip showing it because of Champions League soccer).

Aye, it was an alright race. A bit confusing at the end with the last yellow.

I always liked Carl Edwards until they showed that clip of him intentionally wrecking Brad K back in the day. I'd never seen that before. Bad Carl!

All the LMP cars look generic. The rules are pretty narrow for bodywork design.
I missed this post.

The Audis look awesome.
Ok, the weird middle wing is kinda ugly. But they all have that.
The toyotas and Porsches less so.

And the Audis keep winning. Coincidence? I say no.

Yeah, apparently there was a short circuit and some of the yellow caution lights illuminated around the track and NASCAR threw the full course yellow because of it. Looking back, with the way the rain came down after...it may have been a good thing that yellow popped up when it did.

That is when I lost some respect for Carl too. That was a nasty wreck when he took out Brad.

Any idea what font they used for this?

Never really researched it but there are some free ones available.

What a great ending to a race that was. Best nationwide race I can remember seeing in a long time.

Didn't see it live but did watch the last 10 laps when I could. Good stuff.

Fontana is a great track. Really enjoy watching all the different lines the drivers are able to take.

Denny Hamlin isn't racing this weekend. Supposedly he's got a sinus infection that's affecting his vision. He's probably just scared to race at California, since that's where he broke his back last year.
