Here's a video I recorded a few moments ago of a 2 game, 1 set match between my Mii and the hidden character,
Dry Bowser

CPU is on expert difficulty. There's still 2 higher difficulty levels I haven't unlocked yet.
But, does that mean that there is no way I can play a 5 sets match (with 6 games minimum in my sets, thx) online ?
Nope. 2 games, 1 set is the max when it comes to online play, whether it's with friends or randoms. For me, I don't consider this a bad thing. Doesn't make the game any less fun. If anything, it lets you play more games in a shorter amount of time.
Hispanicguy, about how long have your online matches lasted? Can you tell if match settings are more configurable when playing with friends?
In terms of length, I would say the matches I've played so far were more or less around 2 minutes. If you look at the 2 videos I posted, they both last around 2 min if you don't count time being spent in the menu. It all depends on how good the players are.
When setting up a match with friends online, you can choose singles or doubles, quick match (first to 7 wins) or extended (2 game, 1 set match). Really simple. You can also choose what court you want to play on.
I'm trying to understand the hate this has gotten. If you compare it to Mario Tennis 64, it more or less offers the same. If we all enjoyed that game, there should be no reason we can't enjoy this one.
You have these single player modes:
Tournament mode. Singles/doubles. You can choose a character (including your mii which you can dress up and increase it's stats). 4 cups to go through then you unlock another 4. Each character you beat tournament mode with gets a medal that shows you did indeed beat tournament mode (not sure if you get another medal or something when beating the other 4 cups). I didn't have any difficulties with tournament mode. I would assume it will be harder in the other 4 cups you unlock but no one should really have trouble.
Exhibition. Play singles/doubles against CPU. Choose from 5 difficulty settings for the CPU. If you go into the Records menu, it will keep track of who you beat and on what difficulty.
Mini Games. Ring Shot, Super Mario Tennis, Galaxy Rally and Ink Showdown. Each mode has different levels of difficulty. For example, in Ring Shot, first they ask you to score 200 points in 1 minute. When you beat that, the next challenge is to score 350 points in 2 minutes. After that, 500 points in 3 minutes. Then the last challenge is score as many points as you can within 3 minutes.
You don't earn any coins during tournament mode. You would have to play exhibition as well as the mini games. IMO, that's a good amount of things to do. With nearly 200 accessories to unlock, if you're a completionist, you have some work to do lol.
If you have friends nearby to play local multiplayer, there's no doubt you'll have a great time.
Online multiplayer (even though it does seem bare) is short and sweet. I had 1 match that was slightly laggy but the next 2 were smooth. When viewing my video of that online match, did you guys notice any lag? Just wondering.
I'm enjoying the game and it gives ME enough things to do. It won't be the same with others. I would suggest if you have a Best Buy near you, go and play the demo they have set up.
Throughout the day, I'll see if I can get more videos of online multiplayer (hoping it does indeed stay smooth) as well as try to unlock costumes for your viewing pleasure.
