Banned
I never did say I think NI was banned for being a liberal, vis a vis your equality of outcome argument. I didn't interpret his behavior to be any more worse than other posters, but it's not like I keep a tally of every single thing that people write that annoys me, and then cross reference that with the things that banned users have said, so it could be personal bias talking. In general, I err on the side of letting people talk and am very lenient in what I would consider to be "bannable offenses".
I'm not embarrassed because I don't see that list as representative of my politics. My agreement on certain issues may overlap, but that applies to basically everyone that posts here. If you think that I'm forming my opinion off of a tribal basis, let me assure you that I'm not. If anything, I should be embarrassed at how thinned skin some users can get when getting triggered by the liberals.
That's great if they're not representative of your politics. I wasn't singling you out specifically but cited you as you were one of the defenders of NI in this thread.
Wrapping him in cotton wool to protect him from the consequences of his bad behaviour and effectively helicopter parenting him is likely how he ended up that way. I don't think we should be continuing that for him as an adult (he claims to be 27 despite demonstrating the emotional maturity of a 15 year old). While I think we should try to help him improve where possible, I don't think we as a gaming forum hold any responsibility for it. I agree with you when you say we should let people talk and be very lenient on moderator actions, but I would argue that the mods have done exactly that with NI over the past year or so. The most egregious aspect of his behaviour is the willingness to lie to further his agenda. That is subversive and often hard to identify due to its covert nature, but has the potential to do great harm to your community if allowed to go unmoderated.
