Norm Macdonald is getting a podcast.

The Video Podcast Network just announced on Twitter the launch of a new show hosted by Norm Macdonald that will debut next week. Aptly titled Norm Macdonald Live, the show will debut streaming on the Video Pocast Network this Monday, March 25th, at 6PM PST. Macdonald's guest on that first show will be Super Dave Osborne. Macdonald shot a TBS pilot for a show inspired by the day's pop culture and social media called Norm Macdonald Is Trending last year, but the network picked up Pete Holmes's late night talk show for the post-Conan slot instead. His last regular TV gig was in 2011, hosting Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, which was canceled by Comedy Central after one season. Started in January, the Video Podcast Network releases live episodes of shows like Comedy Bang Bang, How Did This Get Made?, and The Adam Carolla Show each week. There's no word on how often VPN will be releasing new episodes of Norm Macdonald Live, but hopefully, it'll be every week since it's a wonder why the guy wasn't given a podcast four years ago as he is practically built for podcasting.

He's being given distribution through this VPN which should be popular since Comedy Bang Bang and Adam Carolla are on it which are both pretty widely listened to podcasts. It's effectively like we're putting out a game and selling it on our website or our game is going on Steam. Yeah anyone can put one out but if they can bring in another audience with distribution through a network then that'll add to their listenership.

That's the genius of it. Norm never does what you expect him to. Which is to say, you can always expect Norm to do the unexpected.

I remember during the roast of Bob Saget, he said some very mild, tame stuff and no one in the audience understood what he was doing but the other roasters were dying from laughter.

And the moth joke on Conan. God, the moth joke.

There better be an audio-only feed. Visual aspects rarely matter and I like to have audio for going on runs, cleaning the house, doing laundry, etc.

Norm doesn't just talk about sports on Twitter, he goes on really random short-form storytelling bits quite often too. He did a eulogy (is it still a eulogy if someone died a long time ago?) of sorts on Audie Murphy a couple days ago.

He doesn't need it, really.

If this was independently hosted and put up on iTunes without any network affiliation it'd hit Number One on the comedy charts within 3 fucking minutes.

But he's cool w/ Carolla, so it goes on Carolla's network. If anything, this might help Ace more than it'd help Norm.

Getting a podcast? Since when do people get podcasts? If the guy wanted to do one he could've and it would've been successful.
