PAL Charts - Week 37, 2010

Wow these DQ IX Numers are disappointing if true

Not too bad - I think it's comfortably ahead of all previous handheld DQs, but I'm not sure about DQVIII. It's not as great as would have been imagined given placement, but that's the peril of UK charts.

Given how low sales of Mafia II must have been this week, I wonder just how low a hurdle SC would have had to clear to take 2nd place? Its sales could be anywhere from 350k-odd down to sub-10k, probably! :lol

Indeed, unless Sony release some numbers for Sports Champion it could literally have sold 15,000...

EDIT

Well based on the previous weeks percentage drops (58%, 47%) Mafia II (PS3) at #3 sold 8, 100 copies [week 37].

I think DQIX are expected from its chart position. Now, Mafia II seems really low, even though I think it is just the first week.

If indeed it is just one week, then it means it sold ~13,000 this week 37 and that was the 3rd best selling combined title.

So that 39,000 was a combined number for August?
No. 39k was for the 360 version. I got it wrong because I didn't notice week 35 is missing in the OP. I fixed it now.

Week 34:
360 - 39,000 / 0,52 = 75,000
PS3 - 30,000 / 0,41 = 73,000
Assume 74,000

Week 35:
- 23% = 57,000

Week 36:
-58% = 24,000

Week 37:
-47% = 13,000

I think this is it.

Am I right thinking the monthly top 10 numbers are just the raw non extrapolated figures so actual sales are alittle bit higher?
Yes, as far as I know.

They represent 90% of the market and Chart-Track extrapolation is simply dividing them by 0.9

Sports Champions is also second in the multiformat chart so it sold more than both the 360 and PS3 versions of Mafia 2 combined. Hard to guess the lower bound but probably somewhere around 20k-25k.

Mafia II sold 13,000 combined so it could be anything.

Whoops, I read Road's post to mean Mafia II sold 13,000 on the PS3 alone in Week 37.

Yikes those are low numbers.

Releasing in Aug gets you headlines but not sales. We've had all the market data saying it was flat, and we know that in the summer a larger variety of titles sell so this really shouldn't come as a surprise. I'd expect some games to beat these numbers over the christmas period.

From today's MCV magazine:
The UK games market achieved its highest
weekly value so far this year, up a whopping
143 per cent since last week’s low of £11.8
million. Units rose 58 per cent to 987,767.
Since Halo Reach sold about 435k units (20k more than 415k from Halo 3), that means the rest of the market actually contracted from 625k units to 553k. Hard to say how much SC is contributing but it aren't much. My guess would be around 50k-ish but the next top 10 ten monthly number should have SC in it.

There are some interesting numbers in there for UK market.

2008 August software units: 4.814.866
2009 August software units: 3.334.270
2010 August software units: 2.851.774

Erk - not so much "interesting" as "worrying", I'd have thought...

Indeed the Top 10 for the last week of August totalled just over 300k, so it does not leave much room.

Debuting on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC Codemasters’ ‘F1 2010’ pops open the champagne at the top of the podium, outselling No2 (Halo: Reach) and No3 (Dead Rising 2) combined.

It is the first Formula One game to reach No1 since Sony’s ‘Formula One 2001’ over nine years ago, with this iteration selling more than ten times the 2001 game. With an 80% dip in sales Microsoft’s ‘Halo: Reach’ slips down to No2 and after a four year wait Capcom’s zombie sequel ‘Dead Rising 2’ makes its debut at No3. After an even longer wait of almost five years Sid Meier’s PC strategy franchise returns with ‘Civilization V’ from 2K Games at No4. This means that Sony’s Move title ‘Sports Champions’ (-12%) has been forced down to No5 followed by Activision Blizzard’s sixth Guitar Hero game ‘Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock’ starting out at No6. Ubisoft’s ‘Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands’ (+26%) slips down to No7 and 2K Games’ ‘Mafia II’ (-33%) has dropped by 5 places to No8. Disney’s ‘Toy Story 3’ (-4%) has also dropped 5 places to No9 and another long-standing franchise rounds off the Top 10 with Square Enix’s online-only ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ in at No10. Released first as a collector’s edition, Final Fantasy XIV will be joined by a standard edition next week

Halo Reach (-80%) ~87k > Dead Rising 2 combined

Man...Ace Combat 2 PSP only appeared #7 in the PSP-only-full-price Top10, I wonder if that's enough to hit 3 digits! :lol

So Halo Reach went from 430k to 85k, which means:

1. F1 2010 (At worst 165k, based on being higher than #2 + #3 combined)
2. Halo Reach (85k)
3. Dead Rising 2 (?)
4. Civilization V (?)
5. Sports Champions (?)
6. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock (?)
7. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (?)
8. Mafia II (8k)

Massive drop for Halo Reach, Dead Rising 2 and Guitar Hero absolutely bombed and Sports Champion is...okay with sales around 30k (not confirmed).
