PC-Engine CD-ROM2 games coming to VC

I think nintendo is going to start supporting usb HDDs, usb thumbdrives and ipods. Them making their own HDD would surprise me though.
Not secure enough imo... I think we'll see a small micro-HDD add-on that fits on like the angled stand.

And yeah, hopefully this means additional CD-ROM platforms like FM Towns, Mega CD, Saturn and 3DO are on the way. Hell, they could even do GameCube downloads eventually.

I would be all over Super Air Zonk in a hot second. Ys 1 and 2 is nice, and I suppose Ys 3 would follow as well. This really does increase the gaming that we'll get on the VC and that makes me happy :D

Imagine Lunar I and II on Virtual Console..........

OMG

I would absolutely love to see Lunar on the Virtual Console. So, so, so many people have only played through Silver Star Story Complete on the PSX, and they're missing out on the much superior version of the game/story. Anything to help that get more exposure is aces.

Incredible, the VC is actually far outdoing my initial expectations for it... Ys Book 1 and 2 was, I believe, the best selling Super CD game of all time (in both America and Japan), so the US will definitely be getting that... such a fantastic game with unheard-of production values for 1991. Though the fighting style won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Hudson has brought out some JP-only titles before, so here's hoping we'll see something like a Tengai Makyo 2 (absolutely EPIC rpg) translation. And let's hope WD can get on board, too, with Exile, Cosmic Fantasy 2, and Cadash.

Next up, we need SEGA-CD, 32X, and SMS. Maybe even 3D0, heh.

Super CDROM2 has already been announced. The only thing that hasn't been announced is Acrade CDROM2 games.. though they propably will be added without anyone noticing.. since AC was only System Card 3.00 with added memory.

Sapphire was one of those Arcade CD-Rom2 games.

One that I'd like to see, just for the novelty, and as a fan of Arle, would be the Arcade CD-Rom2 version of Madou Monogatari I that was extremely rare.

Has Hudson cleaned up VC emulation of TG-16 titles yet? They always seemed to have the sloppiest emulation out of all the systems. Plus, they never ran at their native resolution on SDTVs, while other systems did. It'd be nice if they got their act together in time for this.

Thanks for the list dovella! For games listed as both Arcade and Super CD, does it mean they are compatible with both system card modes?

Anyways, the list reminded me I would also like to see Sylphia and Faussette Amour.

Awesome news, the more systems the merrier.

manzo said:
The US releases were shit, excluding Ys 1-3 and Cosmic Fantasy 2. Japan had so many insanely awesome releases... that we're not going to see on VC in US and Europe.
They did release Battle Lode Runner though. I didn't have a PC-Engine but from what I understand BLR was never released in the western world before.

Maybe some of those gems see a release after all?

Surely at this stage, Nintendo is going to announce some sort of storage solution.

In fact, I bet that's going to be the September surprise or whatever.
I wouldn't hold my breath for it. September surprise is probably the previously unreleased VC stuff.

That wikipedia list is missing quite a few CD games. Coryoon is one of the ones that immediately jumps out as missing. Really fun, cute shooter. Naxat made it, of course.

Was a CD version of this game released? I've only heard of the HuCard version...

Anyway, this is amazing news. I want (from US): Moster Lair, Ys Book I & II, Gate and Winds of Thunder at the very least.

Hope this means we'll get some Sega CD games too!

same here, but there were several hucard games that were re-released on cd, so i wouldn't be too surprised if i overlooked it.

Of course, that's what almost 20 years of time does to your memory. Now that I've got to thinking about it, I believe I mixed it up with L-Dis, which was another CD shooter definitely not on the list.

Sapphire - My mind's bursting from the awesome. Would be a definite buy.

Super Air Zonk - I prefer vertical shooters, but oh man the music. OH MAN the music. Couldn't skip this.

Mugen Senshi Valis - Okay, she runs slow, but other than that it looks quality. Also, she's a schoolgirl fighting evil in a 2D sidescroller and a game like that would have to be really awful to get me to not buy it for eight bucks.

I'm too tired to go on for now, but this is looking very promising. :D

While at least one version of each of the first four Valis games did come out in the US, only two of the TurboCD ones did (Valis 2 and Valis 3). Valis 1 only came out in the US on the Genesis; Valis 2 on the TurboCD and Genesis ("Syd of Valis", aka SD Valis -- the TGCD one isn't SD, just the Genesis one); Valis 3 on both platforms again (the Genesis versions of the first three games have a bit less content than the TG-CD/PCECD versions, but are close, and include most or all of the cutscenes); and (Super) Valis IV on the SNES (which is too bad because when compared to the original PC-Engine CD version the SNES version removed all of the cutscenes except for the intro and ending and has only one playable character instead of three or four... oh well).

soco said:
as far as i can remember IV was never translated officially and as such it probably won't be transated and released outside of japan on the VC.

Yeah, same goes for the SNES games. We got Ys I (Master System), i&II (TGCD), and Ys III on the TGCD, SNES, and Genesis but didn't get either version of Ys IV (the Super Famicom and PC Engine CD versions are totally different games despite having the same basic story) or Ys V (Super Famicom)... I guess that III didn't do well and they abandoned the series for Western release. :(

Anyway, even if these are 'smaller' thanks to MP3 music and the like, between the Neo-Geo and this and (I'll bet) the strong possibility of Sega CD support sometime... can you play games off of SD cards yet? At just 2GB each, though, even that would start to fill up with a bunch of CD and Neo Geo games... we definitely need USB hard drive support. "Just continually delete and re-download things" is NOT an option.

Oh yeah, and they should just release Rondo of Blood in the US as it is. The menus are in English and I don't know if people would really care that the story is in Japanese...

Agreed! The Sega CD is quite underrated, and the original versions of the Lunar games are the best ones.

modern compression techniques can do wonders for those old games... especially when the only reason they're on cd to begin with is for cd audio or lame cinematics
Some of us actually care how music sounds. MP3s or other audio compression sounds terrible.

800 seems fair if they are as good as SNES games.

WTF GDGF? It was bad enough it was posted the first time instead of just linking to it, why the hell did you quote it again?

Holy fucking raging boner. Ys I & II FOR ME!! I'd be so on Rondo and quite a few others as well. Nicely done Nintendo. Bring us some Sega CD too pls.

I doubt they would really use MP3 for the compression with much better quality formats out there. Heck they could probably make their own compression algorithm that hardly loses any noticeable quality. If they really wanted to keep the same audio quality they could use lossless compression.

Bumping this somewhat old topic.

vireland, if you're reading this: could it be possible to have the PC Engine CD games that WD brought over on VC, or is it are there problems that might not allow this? (like expired rights, etc.)
