Persona 2: Innocent Sin |OT| "As if your dreams would ever be fulfilled...

Should've tweaked the encounter rate instead. Gawwwwd.

Yeah no kidding. Wouldn't bother me with P3/4's super fast auto, but being able to contact your way out of fights quickly is nice, and you at least get something out of it. It was really rough in the dungeon where you go solo at first. My first time through it was step-step-step FUCK. Tried to contact my way out of all of them. After about 20 minutes some demon hama'd me and I died before I even knew my other team mates were around in that dungeon. The second time through I managed to find all of my team and get out in the amount of time I sauntered about solo in those non-stop fights before dying.

Anybody know the best casino game? I've had no luck on anything at all other than black jack. I bought 100 coins and got up to 1000 in about ten or fifteen minutes, but I certainly don't see myself grinding coins that slowly. I don't know how I used to do shit like that. Every other game other than black jack has been a total waste.

30 to 40 hours is a great length. I've got other games I want to play, and while I was saddled up and ready to put in 80 hours if need be, I'm glad I won't have to with all the games releasing now.

I am pretty sure just about the only way to make decent amounts of cash at the casino is to spread the rumor about loose slots, then play the machine people tell you is lucky (IIRC, it's the second one from the right.)

only played an hour of this, seems promising but i'm disappointed in some things. the removal of first person perspective feels like a misstep, just don't see the benefit of it. the battles and menus also feel a tad clunkier than in the first game. not sure how i feel about the removal of the grid system, either.

i'm also disappointed with the load times. even with the install they're sooo frequent. it's true that they're short, but it still sucks that they exist at all. that said i don't doubt atlus' effort and consideration towards this port, lifting code from an old psone game isn't always a simple task.

on the plus side i'm enjoying the characterisations and the music is wonderful, definitely keen to continue. just think the first game gets a bad rap in some ways. in light of this game it felt quite a bit more efficient.

Hm. Not may people out there who will say that the first game's 1st person dungeons were a good thing. Well, changing it gives the game a more cohesive look aesthetically. I think there's a certain benefit to that, if the people who argue MGS is better for having foregone FMV for in-game cinematics have taught me anything.

The grid system, I felt, slowed down the pace of battles. As for the menus... are you talking 'in general' or just the Auto-Battle aspect? In either case, I thought the PS1 original handled it better.

Your other opinions are spot on, though.

Beat it, finally (took a looong break).

Obviously I knew it was coming, but I still (ending spoilers)
had a knee-jerk reaction of "Oh shit, no! Don't do it!" when Ms. Ideal suddenly showed up with the spear.

What happens after Nyarlathotep flies away with her, anyway? Is this explained at any point?

I have been looking forward to this game since Eternal Punishment. They did a fantastic job retaining the feel of the original Persona while streamlining certain things and speeding everything up by A LOT.

This game however... it's still as clunky as ever. They basically did nothing to speed up the battles. Random encounters are still ridiculously high. Turns take forever. Damage to characters/enemies is displayed one at a time (this shit pissed me off so much in EP, I really wished they had done something about this). Conversations still take a lot of time to start. I know a lot of this can be better with the speed up option... but damn, even the fast battle animations are inferior to the ones in Persona 1 PSP. They actually made it look like people fighting instead of random numbers flashing on the screen. They really dropped the ball with all of this.

I don't think so. The world goes to shit, they leave... he's pretty much claimed victory so there's nothing left for him to do I guess. As for why he takes Okamura with him? I imagine he thinks of her as the true nature of humanity (according to him) personified: selfish and more concerned with her own desires than the well-being of others.

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things.

this has been bothering me ever since I started playing the game last year but is there any reason to completely fill out the maps? Im currently at Aquarius Temple and its been annoying me especially from the previous dungeon since they've started to become really really long and navigating through the dungeons is becoming difficult. My characters are also at level 59, will I be fine until the end? I feel like Im just grinding and grinding because of this...

There's no benefit to filling the map out in IS (but there is in EP). And AFAIK you're fine. But you really should level to 98 for the post-game nukes.

so in the end, its going to be grinding for Armageddon huh? but considering that Im already at 59 and just starting Aquarius Temple and then three more dungeons until the final dungeon. I could very well reach level 99 by that time if I just continue filling the maps lol

I'm about 6 hours into this
just beat Yasuo
and was wondering : when's the best time to do the theatre stories?

I'm really just enjoying the main story at the moment so I'm not that bothered, but I was just curious as to whether it'd be a good idea to do them sooner rather than later. Do they flesh out the characters much?

Trying my best to avoid spoilers here. :)

Picked this up (along with P3P) to play on the daily commute. I'm a bit overwhelmed by Contacting. Is it all trial and error so I need to keep manual notes of what actions I've tried with which enemy? Or is there a system to it? How do enemy Traits (Gloomy, Timid etc) play into things?

(I know I could download a spoiler list, but I prefer not to play like that)

It's the traits that define how a demon reacts. At first it really is trial and error, later you'll start to see patterns emerging. Most of the time, multiple demons that have the same trait(s) will respond similarly to the same tactic.

The worst part, of course, is when the demon starts asking questions. Most of the time, it's just a trap that more often than not causes the demon to get angry. Here's something I posted on the official GameFAQs message board an internet lifetime ago:

It was always random. There seems to be some kind of RNG in place for certain answers, even the ones you consistently answer correctly and get a favorable response has like a 10-20% chance of causing anger. And the demon's personality traits probably alters those chances between different demons that ask the same questions.

The idea, naturally, is to avoid the questions in the first place. If it hasn't become obvious yet, raising either Eager or Angry has a high chance of causing the demon to ask followup questions (while Happy and Scared have zero chance). However, raising Eager + another emotion at the same time also stops the demon from asking. The trick is to figure out the right contact in order to raise Eager (and another emotion) two levels and then end it with contact that raises Eager alone or Eager + a different emotion.

If you do this you'll avoid random demon questions completely and get your Tarot cards every time.

Sorry for bumping this, but I can't seem to transfer this from my PS3 to my Vita. Does anyone have the same problem or is it just me?
