PREPARE YOURSELF FOR CUTENESS

Kyoto will finally get its very own Pokémon Center, set to open on 16 March on the fifth floor of the city’s Takashimaya department store. The new shop will sell over 2,500 different kinds of Pokémon goods, with a number of items featuring the new logo for the Kyoto branch, which sees Pikachu riding on the back of the colourfully-winged Ho-Oh.

The logo will be displayed prominently in the middle of the store, and is designed to appear as if Pikachu and Ho-Oh have flown in to Kyoto from the world of Pokémon.

The shop, which covers an area of 206.2 square metres (2,219 square feet), will stock all types of Pokémon merchandise, from plush toys to clothing, accessories and stationery.

There’ll also be a large number of original goods combining the world of Pokémon with Kyoto-themed elements, making them ideal souvenirs for tourists both from within Japan and abroad.

There are currently nine Pokémon Centers around Japan, with locations in Fukuoka, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Yokohama, Sendai, Sapporo, Chiba, and Ikebukuro in Tokyo. Each store has their own range of original goods, and for the opening in Kyoto, customers can expect to see a very special type of Pikachu, designed to embody the culture and feel of the historic locale.

The mascot for the Kyoto store is “Maiko Pikachu”, who comes dressed in a kimono featuring a Ho-Oh design and wears an elaborate Vivillion hair accessory.

More details regarding the opening event and the upcoming line of original Maiko Pikachu goods will be released closer to the March opening date. With this being one of the most adorable mascots they’ve ever released, we hope store staff will limit the number of items per customer to avoid the crazy mass-buying chaos we saw at the 2014 opening of the Tokyo store.

Well Ecruteak was based on Kyoto and Ho-Oh is pokemon that resides in the bell tower, the symbol of the city.

It makes sense to use it. That pikachu is cute <3.

I was totally expecting them to miss the important detail that a female Pikachu has a different shaped tail, glad to see that isn't the case. 10/10 for cuteness, the Pokeball Vivillon hair decoration and Pokeball parasol are a nice touch.

Tempy

don't ask me for codes
For those who don't know, female Pikachus have a rounded tail.

Here's Ash' Pikachu pretending to be a girl:

It's The Pokémon Company. They know the ins and outs of their Pokémon. Why do you honestly believe they'd forget something so fundamental?

Edit: Oh, you got called out on it already :p

I've seen some reeeeeeally low quality official Pokemon merchandise before.

There's a difference between shoddy merchandise a third party made and official artwork and promotion by The Pokémon Company

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
For a moment I thought you meant Pikachu skinning Ho-oh and wearing it, much like how it wore other Pokemon.

For some reason I read the title as Mario Pikachu.
Me too!

Anyway, excited for the inevitable Pokken reveal!

What if it had been a male pikachu instead wearing these clothes, not a mistake? And I agree the Vivillon is cool.

So, since Ho-oh is my favourite Pokemon...

Yeesh, that slim Pika with a circular head design is horrible. Nice to see Ho-oh get some recognition though, poor thing always gets forgotten (It's also my favorite legendary, so I might be biased).

The PokeCen looks like the bootleg. There's tons of those floating around.
I don't mind or know if it is...looks cute. Build a Bear I know is official. :p

Cosplay Pikachu is exclusively female.
Yep. Some forget or are not aware it is. A friend of mind was even shocked at the differences between male/female Pokémon...last week. And we've known each other for over 20 years. XD
