PS4 firmware 4.50 add Boost Mode for PS4 Pro.

Fallout runs worse with pro patch than boost.
I thought DF said the drops in the Pro mode game were only in a couple of very specific locations. On the other hand, the Pro patch offers vastly improved draw distance, enhanced god rays (sounds simple but it's very noticeable in practice), and ups the resolution from 1080p to 1440p for noticeably better visuals, all while running better than the base game.

It seems like losing all of those things for a slightly better framerate in a couple of very specific places would be a terrible tradeoff, but that's just my opinion.

Get over it. Good thing DF manufactured this nonsense, now you all have more to argue about.

You get better performance snd better graphics. Sounds like what a pro patch should do.

No neogaf manufactured it. DF says it runs better than base but selective reading and stuff .

Remember DOOM having bad screen tearing, without the day 1 patch?
I wonder if the boost mode will eliminate the screen tearing.
Anyone tested it?

Than Boost and only in stress areas, but is an upgrade in every single way over the base version, which is what people still think that the Skryim Pro version runs worse than the base version.

I tried it on Boost mode last week and honestly I didn't notice a difference. I played it mostly through January and pre-Boost performance was usually smooth.

Both PP and GZ were already pretty much rock solid 60 FPS on PS4 already, no improvements are gonna manifest unless a patch is put out increasing the resolution I guess.

Not directed at you but I find it strange that people who didn't think that the big improvements from Pro enhanced games was worth getting a PS4 Pro for are going out to buy PS4 Pro now for the small enhancements that boost mode is giving some games.

I understand that with boost mode they cover more games now that the pro patches left out but it seem like people are happier about a few FPS than they are about getting better image quality & better FPS.

I guess it's just the feeling you get from knowing the games play better on your hardware without the devs having to do anything.

Basically your last paragraph nails why I hadn't bought one till now. I am excited for pro patched games but knowing most games will run better is a huge selling point at least for me.

Do we have a post/thread that consolidates all the known info about boostmode-enhanced games into a single list? (Or is there a site/wiki somewhere out there with one?)

It'd be super helpful to have something like this topic, but for boost mode.

The important point is, it runs better than base PS4. Boost Mode is not the red line.

I platinumed it yesterday and will soon head to Far Harbor, so I can't talk about hands-on of that area. But regarding the main game my choice is clear. I'd always prefer increased image quality and draw distance all the time everywhere over better performance in rare stress points. It still feels way smoother on top of that.

That post is pretty outdated now. Here's a more recent version. Keep in mind that this is a compilation of GAF impressions, not rigorous analysis. What people view as framerate improvements varies, and can even be entirely mistaken.

This is probably the last time I'll post the summary in this rough condition. As noted above, a nicer, more precise version will be added to my Pro enhancement thread whenever the firmware is officially released.

TOTAL GAMES: 96
GAMES WITH NO IMPROVEMENT SEEN: 12
GAMES REPORTED TO CRASH OR HAVE ISSUES: 9*

Has anyone noticed the blank screen for a second or 2 even. Though not connected to the vr breaker box?

I've had the screen going black a couple of times for a second or so when I start a new game, but it then seems to sort itself out.
1080p display fed through an AV amp by HDMI.

I updated to the beta firmware at weekend. I've had an issue this week where my monitor which currently has my PC connected via DVI and PS4 Pro connected via HDMI takes several attempts to switch over to the PS4's HDMI output, it just goes black for a few seconds and then switches back to DVI.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't recall this happening before the firmware update so I'm thinking it could be causing the issue somehow.

Mine is directly connected.. Where do we report this?

Maybe all this has already been discussed at length in a separate PS Pro thread but it seems I've eliminated the intermittent black screen issue by turning off 'auto detect' in the PS Pro display settings and by setting RGB to 'full'. I don't think it's anything to do with the beta, more of an issue between the Pro and Samsung TVs maybe.

Asking for a friend:

We know the beta is shareable so that anyone on the beta programme can transfer it to other hardware by simply logging in on that machine which makes it available for other users on that hardware, but have Sony come out and said anywhere that they are 100% OK with this? They obviously built this feature into the beta so it's not hardware-locked, but are they likely to frown on it being shared in this way?

Beta FW sharing = more PS4 Pro sales

They don't even care about enforcing NDAs: https://twitter.com/yosp/status/831032016422309888

So basically pretty much every non-Pro patched game benefits from Boost mode.

No need for tests on every non-Pro patched game

The beta thread is locked, where have people been asking for a spare 4.50 code?

Does anyone have a burner account or extra key they would be willing to share? I would love to try this beta out...

Has anyone tested to see if the PS2 emulated games have any marked improvements? I remember Rogue Galaxy used to chug a bit in menus and in certain combat scenarios. Am very curious if boost mode locks the framerate down.

There's been very little testing of PS2 games going on; the only boostmode video I saw was of GTA San Andreas, and that's already at locked 30 with no major drops. I'm interested in this as well, though.

Been testing the external hard drive and it seems like I can transfer games from internal to it, but not the other way around. Seems bugged. Getting error CE-41829-4. Just reporting it really, its not bothering me.

WWE 2k17 seems to have slightly faster loading with Boost Mode. Also, the screen tearing issues I saw with a base PS4 appear to be gone as well

Yeah. The only area where Boost mode improves it is in quality of motion blur. Previously under heavy load the quality of motion blur was dynamically reduced, but in Boost mode it's always at max.

That's interesting. I've never noticed a drop in motion blur quality in Drive Club. I did however, notice a drop in motion blur quality while playing Uncharted 4 though. Certain areas of UC4 used a lower motion blur sample rate (especially towards the end of the game in the Library room).
