Good. They deserve all the success they can get with the PS4! ^_^
So PS4 and Wii U install bases are basically the same in US?..
Numbers will be ridiculous when it's released in Europe.
or the new game from SSM
This article claims the OS is to blame for faults, as have many here.
So now all those ridiculous smartphone websites and podcasts which claim consoles are dead and things like onlive, ouya, iOS and whatever other Android device were the future can now stop.
People buy consoles for other reasons other than just current exclusive games that have come out, which is what many believe here is what sells consoles. They buy it for the hype and promise of more games in the future, it is a investment. There was this idea being pushed that PS4 has no major exclusives out right now, thus it will sell poorly, again completely missing the point why people buy consoles at launch.
.
The sales are impressive, but it's clearly grounded in the novelty of new tech, not the games, and between hardware problems and poor software, I think PS4 is going to start having a tougher time once the launch honeymoon is over.
Every single unit shipped, UK might be the only country in the world where Xbox One outsells PS4 due to 360 vs PS3 sales and Fifa bundle.
Sold out quickly, it was just to help get Xbone pre-orders up. It's a moot point especially when most retailers are going to be bundling PS4s with Fifa for a cheaper price.FIFA 14 will only come free with Xbox One Day One Edition pre-orders, while stocks last.
It's releasing a week earlier than the PS4 over here, so combine that with our austerity measures only one of them will get our wallet contents this month. I really hope we go back to being the PS nation we were with the PS2. We're drowning in a sea of CODFIFAs ?

Perhaps, but many gamers are thirsty for powerful new console tech, and after MS crucified themselves with Bone, it left the way clear for Sony.

I understand that (it's the reason why I'm buying it tomorrow despite no killer app), but this kind of reception seems unprecedented, and I don't see anything unprecedented about this launch. It's the usual crappy launch with the usual rushed software and the usual hype and usual promise of the bright future. The usual investment. So while everything you say is logical, it doesn't really satisfy my curiosity I'm still left surprised and wondering.
Maybe it's the aforementioned PR machine in action... I pretty much just stick to GAF, so maybe I'm ignorant of the scope of it. Maybe it's the blue balls. I dunno
That and the abysmal performance of the Wii U. But just like previous consoles have failed to catch on (Saturn, Jaguar, Dreamcast, GC, OG Xbox) others have thrived in the same generations, PSX, SNES, PS2 etc.
Many many many sales. The question is, can PS4 beat Xbox in England?

You're doing it wrong. There's a Kazified version of this somewhere on the interwebs.
So has any console ever done better? If not thread title could be changed to best start in gaming history, or console gaming history, best console launch in history.

See, this is my worry when people in this thread are already calling the console war over. Although you mentioned a bunch of consoles that failed to catch on, with the exception of the Jaguar, most of those machines have generally offered great experiences because they had to offer something to combat the PlayStation brand that was sucking up all the exclusives. So, for example, I had much more fun with both the GameCube and Xbox libraries. Indeed, I've always found the PlayStation brand to be... not mediocre, but vanilla. Inoffensive, I guess.
The thing is, it's not 2003 any more. No company is going to take a chance, and the age of third-party exclusives is slowly coming to an end. So if the Xbox One tanks, what's going to be the consolation prize for owners like it was in the PS2 days? It didn't matter that the machine had only shifted 25 million units or so and had tanked in Japan when you were playing Halo, KOTOR, Morrowind, Jade Empire, Project Gotham Racing, etc. I mean at least Nintendo will have to keep supporting its own platform for at least the immediate future.
When you chuck in the fact that franchises like Wipeout have been kicked to the curve in favour of cinematic experiences like Uncharted and The Last of Us, as someone who bought an Xbox 360 to play Geometry Wars, a knockout blow by Sony in Round One would actually be something that I would be concerned about rather than elated.
But then again I'm in the minority of GAF users.
cant wait to see this in South Park.
