PSA: Rare Xbox 360 sale features over 60 non-backwards compatible games (Xbox 360 MarketPlace closes July 29)

Microsoft has posted an update on the Xbox Wire about these price reductions which will remain active until the 360 store closes at the end of July:

Xbox 360 launched 18 years ago and was a generation-defining console that invited many people to jump into gaming for the first time and connect with friends around the world. We’re thrilled people continue playing their favorite Xbox 360 games on Xbox 360, or on newer consoles via Backward Compatibility for supported titles.

As we shared last August, we have a change coming to the Xbox 360 experience. Starting on July 29, 2024, Xbox will stop supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace (marketplace.xbox.com).

To celebrate the legacy of Xbox 360, we’re working with our amazing publishing partners to bring you as many price reductions from our online store or from the Xbox 360 Store on the console. We’ll be updating this list with more games on June 18, 2024, and on July 16, 2024, bringing you as many repriced games as possible before the end of July.

Out of nowhere, a special non-backwards compatible Xbox 360 games sale has gone live, giving players a chance to grab 360 games before they're delisted ahead of the Xbox 360 Store closure in July.

Other than the odd game here or there, it's pretty rare to see non-backwards compatible Xbox 360 games go on sale, so this is quite exciting. Over 60 games have been discounted, including a fair few games that are digital only and will be delisted when the Xbox 360 store shuts down in under three months.

We're not sure how long exactly this sale will last, so make sure you're quick! It's also worth noting here that some of these games might not be for sale/discounted in your region.

While reading through everything on offer, make sure you check out the 'info' column for games with any flagged unobtainable and discontinued achievements. For a further breakdown of this sale, head over to the Xbox Sales page. Here, you can filter this list and manage your Price Alerts.

Looks like they're also missing Rez - I love that game but I moved on to the VR version, I hadn't realised it was never backwards compatible. Actually, all the Sega games that somehow never got BC updates. Jet Set Radio Future... And I guess this means Burnout 3, Blur and Project Gotham are all eBay-only now.

Looks like the Xbox version is on the 360 marketplace only, which I'm suprised is still being sold considering these type of games are usually vulnerable to licensing issues.
Maybe car licensing is/was a bigger issue than music licensing was (given that Burnouts cars are all made up).

Same reason why Burnout Revenge is still up on the Xbox One store despite having licensed music?

I remember reading a while back that music licenses last longer than car licenses which are not that long (only a few years as opposed to say a decade)

Ah okay I never knew that. Yea that would make sense.

It is strange that there's no consistent license period for licensed music. It seems to be always negotiated on a case by case rather than with standard terms.

Music can also (and has been) be patched out of games when it runs out but you can't really patch out the cars from a car game haha.

And yeah not sure, but the music industry is a clusterfuck.

Dark Messiah.
I bought a brand new copy just 2 or 3 months ago. I wish the multiplayer had couple people playing but no, it's completely dead :(

Did you know Arkane was behind that game? I did not know until recently. I also have an old copy of Arx Fatalis complete in box. That one is an hidden Xbox gem.

Xbox 360 games

I guess if there is a column with XBLA but not XBO in the next column, those would be Xbox 360-only games which are digital only and will be going away. There are a bunch that have already been delisted (like Bangai-O Missile Fury) but still a LOT of games that will be disappearing in July

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
PSA, more games will be added to the store-closing sale in the upcoming days, so keep an eye on the things you might want to buy and download before the store closes.

One final hurrah for the 360. I wonder how many people will buy software only playable on hardware that went out of production 10 years ago? Would be an interesting stat.
