Resident Evil 6: Bro-Splosion Announced, Nov 20 PS3/360, PC Later, PR/Trailer In OP

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
ITT: a lot of people don't understand why RE5 failed. They think they do, but they don't.

This doesn't look anything like RE5 in the ways that matter.

I'll just break it down for everyone:

RE5 didn't suck because it had a lot of shooting. The action was more or less the same as RE4. RE5 sucked because it had zero atmosphere in a series that has been all about atmosphere.

RE5:

- Takes place mostly in daylight
- Has you shooting the same voodoo enemies for most of the game
- Doesn't really have a lot of monsters
- Rips off its biggest set piece from the Uncharted series

Judging by this trailer, RE6:

- Takes place mostly at night
- Has a shit ton of monsters
- Returns to the collapsing urban feel of RE2/3
- Has claustrophobic hallways and much better set pieces than RE5

Precisely.

Also, co-op this time is great news. Can't wait to play the fuck out of this with my roommate.

What do you mean what?

Survival horror, solving puzzles, AVOIDING zombies instead of punching them in the face - see how much of that applies to Michael Bay's vision of RE in the trailer shown.

Why do people want this when there are already enough games like it? What is the appeal, I mean seriously, you realise you're cheering for more of the same thing that exists in a form that most developers now aim for, rather than an original experience right?

I thought Racoon City was supposed to be the lame generic action shooter yet this looks about the same.

Resident Evil: Revelations. you'll fucking love it.

Well if it was Ashley(which it isn't) then I assume it's because the dude killed or has something to do with the presidents death. Maybe she chases after him for answers or something, if that president is her father.
I believe there is a pic in RE 4 of the president and the president in the trailer had the same hairstyle plus glasses. Also, after the Raccoon/Operation Javier City incident Leon became a agent under the direct order of the president. "I've always valued our friendship".

Seems to me that the president personally suggested that Leon joined his team.

As an old school fan I was like meh in the beginning.
After watching the trailer a few times. I think this will be the best resident evil to ever be released.
It's got everything.

I love the overal graphics tone, it's grim and dark.
It's awesome how chris gets mad at "that bitch" (ada?).

If Ashley is shooting guns and stuff in this one, I call bullshit that they didn't team her up with Leon. Leon/Ashley without the escort stuff would have made for potentially hilarious dialogue since they know each other already.

No, no and no.

Either you're blind (in which case you shouldn't be mad because you would have seen anything) or selectively watching, because 1. He does look like Leon only with stubble, 2. He did kick people in the face in that very video and 3. He threw an axe in a guy's head and slid underneath another guy's legs like Chow-Yun Fat and shot him in the back, which equals feats of badassery to me.

Leon looks like Sawyer from Lost.

This isn't a bad thing.

Why you guys no like co op? Resident Evil 5 was amazong. Actually I can understand, seeing the series change and stuff, and also very little horror games out now.

Hopefully we can become a bit more horrifying than 5 and reach a middle point so everyone is happi ? :) i hope so.

counterpoint: that trailer had everything and the kitchen sink, and showed off plenty of opportunity for horror and RE exploration, along with action.

Which is great for action games, but not so much for horror games. You need all that shit when you're trying to create a set piece heavy action title. That trailer just looks like an action game that happens to take place in a horror setting. Which makes up the overwhelming majority of "horror" titles that we've seen this generation.

i swear that i just played a demo of a brand new resident evil game that was more horror than 4 just a few hours ago. i'm pretty sure i didn't imagine it.

I played That also and it only makes this trailer more disappointing. Because it does show that they know how to make those games still. They just don't want to do it on consoles for whatever reason.

I watched the trailer, then I read the details. I'm okay with this. I was never a fan of Takeuchi's comments about totally reimagining or rebooting the series. I'm glad they decided to delay (or abandon) those plans instead to give fans another me-too entry in the franchise with the characters we love. No, that's not meant to be sarcasm.

They probably thought up some stuff, figured "well, this isn't going anywhere fast" and then decided the best thing to do would be taking RE5 and making it insane. Hopefully it pans out!

There were plenty of scenes in that trailer taking place in daylight.

Game looks idiotic, extremely idiotic and obviously borrows from games everyone is borrowing from...as if RE5 wasn't enough. So it also looks generic. It's a thing of beauty, watching this giant meta game be created when every dev out there slowly meets in the middle of the room, offering absolutely nothing and yet borrowing everything.

But hey, it's "epic" right? So, it's good. Epic. Good. Epic. Good.

Mikami must simply be shaking his head at this point. It's like watching your child, who had a shitload of potential as a kid, grow up to live in a ditch with needles hanging out of their arms. You still love them, sure, but you can't help but wonder where it started to go wrong.

Shanghai looks pretty great. Not too keen on Leon's new design so far, but at least he didn't turn into a monster like Chris. So it seems like we'll be seeing Leon, Ashley, Chris, Ada, Rebecca, and not-Wesker in the game at least? Not bad for a start.
Wait what huh

Rebecca what

It is. We can safely put it in the Gears of War genre, not the Dead Space genre. I'm sure it'll sell better than any other entry in the series, which is obviously their intention, but they really shouldn't retain any pretensions about what the franchise is about now. The word horror doesn't belong there at all.

Resistance 2 was more frightening than Resident Evil 5.

I'd say Dead Space is sliding toward the Gears of War genre if it isn't already halfway in it already. I didn't feel any sense of isolation/helplessness let alone horror at all in DS2.

Those dark buildings in Chicago in Resistance 2 were actually kinda creepy.

Just saw the trailer and MY GOD this shit looks epic. Muthafucking Leon! Chris! Ashley!(i think) Good to see zombies back but damn Im gonna be scared shitless against those fat things, they remind me of those cancers from silent hill 3.

RE5 ripped off Gears of War and MGS4 too.

Shooting enemy with satellite laser beams, stabbing a guy in the neck with a vial to make him vulnerable, the whole ridiculous cover shooting mess, etc.

Wow, best trailer I've seen in a while. Game looks great. As someone who actually enjoyed RE5 despite it's faults I'm really looking forward to this.

Lots of people consider RE4 to be the best in the series, myself included.

To say it 'isn't RE' is kind of ridiculous. This is where the series has gone.

Still the Question is why on earth did they do Operation Racoon City if they planned to release another action type Resident Evil the same year ?

Of course Operation is more focused on Multiplayer but still :X

eh? not really. if RE6 was more old school, you could say exactly the same thing. 'why make RE6 horror type when they're releasing a horror type RE the same year?'.

see?

Operation Raccoon City is a very different kind of game to me. not even sure if i'm going to pick it up. i definately don't think it's a substitute for what 6 looks to be.

RE4 borrow almost everything from other game , but with great implementation. What's so wrong with that?

No, that's you.

- Takes place mostly in daylight
The indoor parts and the nighttime parts weren't any more tense or frightening. That trailer also showed plenty of sequences that take place in daylight so this point is moot anyway.

- Has you shooting the same voodoo enemies for most of the game
I don't recall any less variety than RE4.

- Doesn't really have a lot of monsters
It had plenty of enemies that weren't scary at all and some that seemed ripped from a straight up shooter. This game also has zombies with guns, and as a psychological threat that's no different than any random gunman in any random shooter. The way they tried to reveal the big cockroach thing showed that it was clearly meant to be the "Regenerator" of RE5, except it lacked any of the traits that made the Regenerators so creepy.

The basic problem with RE5 was that you can't have an atmosphere of isolation when you're always with a companion. It's a fundamental design flaw that they have now embraced. How well would Dead Space 2 have worked if Ellie was constantly following you around and helping you solve puzzles? It wouldn't have.

Hilaaaarious negativity in this thread. This is how I see it - as someone who enjoyed 5 but was ultimately disappointed in it.

This has at least two main story arcs - an action one and a proper survival horror one. Capcom have proved they can still do survival horror with the mansion DLC for 5. I don't understand what the fuss is about. Best of both worlds!

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
There are people who think that's not Ashley? lol

oh, oh, i've got a good one.

i wonder how that tank controls?

Like an old school RE game.

Looks to me that Resident Evil died when Mikami left Capcom. Hahaha at this crap. And am I crazy or are the graphics not up to RE5's level?

Hooray, yet another dev continues to squander its unique franchise in the name of making the same ol' shit we've already played made by other devs more skilled in the genre.

I'm thrilled. Looks like all that stuff about taking the series back to its roots was pure hot air.

I will never understand people who found oldschool RE to be scary. To me, scary is seeing a nest of scorpions or a couple of brown recluse spiders near me. Things that, if i'm not careful, can get me killed. Not an obviously fake videogame zombie.

That said, the trailer got me hyped for an awesome looking action title.

Found some cool stuff in the freezeframe, I'll be done uploading it in a sec. Seems some people already beat me to Leon hitting the guy with an axe and that big weird mutated Gigante monster.
