Resistance Burning Skies |OT| Extinguishing the Flames of Vitality

I've never played a Resistance game before - should I before this is released?

I fully expect this to be the worst in the series. You should probably play the first or 2nd game to whet your appetite for the series. Then play Burning Skies. Then (assuming Burning Skies is a disappointment), play R3 to wash down the bitter taste.

I only played the game at gamescom last year and don't think it's a disappoitment. German magazines give it low 80 scores.

Every Resistance game is pretty much its own standalone title it terms of story, gameplay, and atmosphere. I'd personally just start with the first but if your starved to play a new vita title. Check Burning Skies out.

Thanks! Yeah it's more new about a new Vita title then anything else.....

All I know is I can't wait to sit there on the couch and play some MP, while my wife watches her stupid shows on the TV. Handhelp MP with the VITA better make this worth it!

I was going to get this game, just to have a FPS on Vita, but I don't know. It just seems like it will be really bad. Sub-native res, uninspired art design, short campaign, barebones multiplayer, and doesn't seem to be a steady 30fps. It's really disappointing, because this should have been a AAA game like Resistance 3. Oh well. I'll play this demo and watch out for reviews.
It seems to have the same art design style as the other Resistance games, so i wouldnt exactly call it uninspired. The art style fits the setting of the game in my opinion.

I could use a new Vita title, but this looks pretty rough. No harm in trying the demo, though.

framerate looked like shit in the its official trailers and the graphics are also rough looking, but a new title is still something for us deprived Vita owners

Gravity Rush can't get here soon enough

Eurogamer has 9 new screenshots. They spoil one of the bigger bosses so don't clink if you don't want to see.

At first I thought you said Eurogamer gave it a 9.

I almost shat myself.

The shot of that big monster looks pretty damn awesome.

:shrugs: Seems like a direct quote from the developer trumps t6a's reasoning, but who knows.

Not when we got a direct quote from the same dev that said everyone else was taking his comments out of context - they're aiming to have a good chunk of the work done by June. Now way on earth it'll release next month.

Anyway. Resistance. Yeah.

The annoying thing is that this doesn't sound like it has much in common with Resistance MP anyway. The first game supported 40 players and had some really cool objective modes. The 2nd game supported 60 players and had rotating objectives, plus the MMO-inspired coop mode. I only played the R3 beta so I don't know the details.

This is only 8 players, with very barebones modes. Maybe it'll do as Vita's first online fps, but it's disappointing.

Actually both games were more fun with smaller counts. Resistance 2 in particular was an awful clusterfuck with 60 players, with games literally being reduced to two large groups of players sniping each other from a distance.

Because of this Resistance 3 focused on a smaller player count and is by far the best of them (well, until people unlocked some terribly unbalanced weapons and abilities... I don't know if they patched that).

If that isn't enough you also have to consider R1 and R2 had dedicated servers, which I doubt Sony is paying for with this game.

Ah nice one, was just going off what someone said on the last page :)

3.3 GB is what they said on Twitter, glad it's a little smaller. :)

no, you are trolling.

what's wrong with that shot...especially the quoted version which really is what it'll look like on a Vita Screen.

The character models and textures are abysmal. For a Vita game.

The hardware is more capable than that...

I forgot this game was coming out so soon. I've had it preordered for a couple months, so I hope it turns out ok.

Yah, it is. But I'm going to wait til I see the game in action. Just about every Vita games looks quite a bit worse in screenshots (non-bullshot) than they look on the actual system.

In action, man those gun firing animations are killing me :-S

Watched that multiplayer trailer again...the gun sounds in this game are atrocious - and thats coming from a long time resistance fan. It's like the B-teams understudies got this game, who are the developers again?

Grabbing it for $20. I know the pic posted here looks terrible but the other pics didn't look too bad. I wouldn't worry about spoilers and just click on the Eurogamer link if you're not planning to pick it up. Also, I need to see it on a Vita screen to know for sure.

The Amiga Brotherhood

Water, fire and soldiers are bad, but all the rest is really good, look at the lights, the shadows, the textures etc... Obvioulsy those soldiers didn't get a lot of attentions during the development, probably because we''l see them for few seconds.

So while the embargo is not up it looks like at least some members of the media are enjoying this game.

Ben Kuchera:
"The Vita is the best handheld for portable first person shooters. There, I said it. I feel better. Needed to be done."

He hints he's talking about this one in a reply to someone else.

Greg Miller:
"Resistance: Burning Skies Platinumed. #myign"

This sounds promising.

Please don't be horrible. I can put up with "pretty bad" but I need a decent shooter for the Vita right now. :(

On the fence for this one. I'm a fan of the series but the footage shown so far hasn't been spectacular, but I can't say I'm not curious.

Loving that Japanese box art.
no worries. i'll get it and let you know if you should bite or wait for bomba.

now would be the time the dude that has the early copy gives us some impressions. c'mon early copy dude!

No surprise there. Burning Skies has the easiest trophy list I've ever seen. I mean you get a gold trophy for playing one round of multiplayer.

need more games like this.....this trphy whore in me gets pissed when i play a game many months after release, and realize that the multiplayer scene is barren.....which means any multiplayer trophies are pretty much unobtainable....thus no platinum

sorry but game developers need to know that not every one will buy the game right out the gates nor will they put in 12,000 hours grind to get some silly platinum trophy

But that is exactly what they want you to do. Buy the game at full price when it comes out and keep playing the MP for a long time before you sell it to Gamestop. That is why multiplayer trophies are the way they are.

Is there anyone who ever denied this? Dual analogs + gyro...

Kodiak

Not an asshole.
Sad they didn't get Olly to reprise his roll as cover artist. Set the bar high with that one.

ALSO

I think the story would be more interesting if you had to save your parents. You would get a lot of funny dialog in those escort missions.

It will probably the same shallow bullshit we have seen over an over in M rated games lately.

Does the demo drop this Tuesday? Im having a hard time finding the answer. I'm really looking forward to people's impressions. I'm a big fan of the series yet can't shake this concern that this might...suck.

Didn't even know we might be getting a demo, cool, I'm pretty on the fence about this game.
