Under The Cork Tree is such an incredible album, but I do think Infinity On High is better. But UTCT scored pretty damn awesome! Suck it Panic! fans
Also the MCR representation was Three Cheers? Darn, I think Black Parade and Danger Days are so much cooler.

Also my favorite album of all time is number 28!

Some of these albums I have a hard time seeing as emo (Coheed & Cambria, Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy) but Sunny Day Real Estate is essentially emo.

Weezer's Pinkerton wrote the book on emo before it was even anything.

Conventional Weapons is their best album.

Totally agree about Infinity On High though, it's a much more interesting album. Less popular because it's more complex. (I sound like a douche)

I also wish that Pretty. Odd. was here. Besides those three though, the list is pretty solid.

Looking at these albums brings me back to my high school and college days. It seemed like every girl I knew was listening to Dashboard and Jimmy Eat World. I hated those bands with a passion.

Weezer toed the line especially with Pinkerton.

The definition of emo to me has always been Taking Back Sunday.

Jimmy Eat World is undeniably emo. Clarity is such a great album. Maybe later they morphed into whatever, but Bleed American and Clarity are both clear enough emo albums IMO.

Idk about Panic at the Disco being on there though. Or MCR. Man emo as a term is so diluted.

I think that The Second Stage Turbine Blade is the only album they've done that I would call emo. They flirted with the prog elements, but that did feel a lot more squarely in one category then. Every album after that had the prog influence get more and more pronounced, and I can't imagine anyone thinking otherwise on what they are these days.

Sure, that album introduced all the bullshit with The Writer and his girl problems, but it's still an album about an intergalactic race war that is being willed into existence by a guy who gets writing tips from a talking bicycle.

Was genuinely hoping to see Hybrid Theory on the list, and I say this as a huge fan of theirs. But I suppose Linkin Park are known more as Nu Metal (whatever that means, considering how arbitrary these genres are).

Anyway, cool list - I'll have to listen to some of these. I was the emo-est of emo teens and haven't actually listened to any of these albums!

I'm gonna be honest, I don't really care about what's on these lists as long as they get some actual emo on there. And by that criteria, solid top 5.

Pinkerton isn't "arguably emo" it's 100%emo.

Yeah they do use a pretty broad definition of "emo" for this list, pulling from post-hardcore, and some experimental rock. Almost all of these bands were on my playlist in the 90's and early 00's and they've hit a lot of my favorites. Diary was literally my gateway into the entire emo genre and still a fantastic album.

If anything on this list is a little suspect it's inclusion of bands like Panic at the Disco and Fallout Boy. I wouldn't necessarily consider them emo as much as pop punk, but they were after my time.

Good list for the most part. I'd put a couple of these higher (Pinkerton and 4 Minute Mile were seminal for me personally), but that's probably mostly just because I haven't heard all of these.

Emo is a weird term. I mean, yeah, they're emo in some way, but I see a lot of different genres that more aptly fit the music than "emo".

Emo is more of a culture than a genre of music. Just look at the list, you've got a ton of soft stuff, hard stuff, really off-the-beaten-path stuff, and so on.

well they're more of a pop-pop-punk* and got even poppier. I definitely wouldn't mind some more either. I'd expect it to come up in a few years once nostalgia sets in

*the extra pop is cause my one friend is into poppy punk and he complains that this kind of music is way too pop for even that
