This is huge news! After years of being involved (and controlled by the church), Tom Cruise, 52, is reportedly quitting Scientology for good and it’s all for daughter Suri Cruise, 9! After a heartbreaking phone call with Suri, the actor allegedly realized he’s missing out on all of her milestones and the only way to get back into the young girl’s life is to cut ties with the church.

...

The source went on to explain the predicament Tom is allegedly in. “Tom has been under tremendous pressure where Suri and Katie are concerned because the church doesn’t want him close to them. They can’t stand that their own poster boy isn’t raising his child in the church,” the source said. “If they label Suri a suppressive person (a Scientology term for an enemy of the church), as they’ve been known to do with dissenters, that would make it hard for Tom to have a relationship with her. He’s between a rock and a hard place, but he’s finally making a choice to put his daughter first,” the source continued.

I hope this is true. I can't imagine Scientology without Cruise. But I hope this is true.

It says a lot about this "religion" when they act like this. Hopefully Tom gets away from this and over time realizes how bad it was for him.

I don't believe Scientology would ever let him leave.

They've done the whole brainwash thing damn effective and surrounded him with their people.

Him breaking away with be nothing short of a miracle.

Not going to happen. The church has blackmailed him forcing him to stay. It would be great though to see what really happens inside the church if he leaves.

Fucking SPs ruining the lives of good honest scientologists. Who'll defend us when Xenu returns?

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
He’s between a rock and a hard place
Your rock is imaginary Tom, it's not real.

Go home and be a family man.

If nothing else he can get the word out there that is daughter and himself will not be associating with them, while paying them tithe for the rest of his life to keep them at bay. Sort of a win win.

Also if true,

Not smart on their part if they keep hammering on that point. Push comes to shove, losing Cruise would totally screw them over.

Going Clear was a great punch in the gut towards Cruise.

I could see this happening. At some point all the blackmail in the world isn't worth living alone and having your daughter hate you. He has plenty of money and star power he could weather any storm they tried to throw at him. In fact, he could turn the tables and become the ultimate hero by taking down Scientology.

bish gets all the credit :)
They'll never label anyone who Tom is close to as an SP. He brings in way too much money, which is what they function on.

If Tom ever left they'd probably push Will Smith up front and center even if the guy has been trying to down play his involvement.

While watching Going Clear, all I could think was, are John Travolta and Tom Cruise watching this? And is it rocking them to the core?

I still lean towards them both being duped and not knowing the reality about what goes on in the church, but the information is all out there now in a big way. Just the idea that he's not seeing his daughter because of the church is the most absurd thing ever.

I still half expect one or both them to have some 'my whole life was a lie' interview at some point down the line.

Not a fan of cruise but would love to see this happen. Both for his daughters sake and to see the Church of failed science fiction take that sort of blow.

Why does this church exert so much control over its members?

Reminds me of cult dynamics.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the members of the church are required to disclose extremely personal information about their lives. Imagine a company being in possession of extremely personal information about you that you would never want to make public. Yikes!

What makes scientology so appealing to actors/famous people?

hope he does, dude is a great actor

Connections.

It's all about getting them when they first start out and promising they can help their career and all due to their connections. If the people become successful and wealthy they are firmly at Scientologys call then and help cater to it's whims since they feel they own everything to it.

Attaboy Tom. Leave that poisonous cult.

On a side note I'd love for him to star as L.Ron Hubbard for a biopic in the future.

Good on him, if he really is leaving the church. Nice to see that their brainwashing isn't stgrong enough to cut him from his family.

I think it's like microtransactions. You keep putting money in but it doesn't really do anything.

That and recorded "audits" that they will use against you if you don't keep feeding them money.

Its like if Microsoft really did use the kinect camera against people without telling them and then forced everyone to give them money and buy their shit or they would release all the videos they have of you jerking it to anime tentacle porn or something.

is tom cruise a smart man?
he had a high rank in scientology, but was he truly someone who made decision or just the dumb posterboy?
I always had the feeling he was the latter. but I am hoping now he knows a lot, just imagine what he could expose.

...hate me...
You can take Tom Cruise out of Scientology, but you can't take the Scientology out of Tom Cruise.

I bet you if this were true it would be Suri who said something that made him regret the situation. I can imagine on the phone her saying something (in complete unequivocal youthful innocence) like "dad why don't I get to see you?" and it shook him to the core, with no real reasonable answer with which to reply.

Sort of a "Father... please!!!" moment.

Is there an organisation or something the government can do to help protect people leaving scientology? Even if they're willing, the church isn't and that's a huge problem.

Considering it's known that Scientology has people in the government and even tried to destroy documents in the FBI and intimidated the IRS enough that it backed down.

Probably not.
