this is the official twitter account for the saudi news TV channel
they said" it's official , the cinemas are officially will be in saudi arabia"

after all this time , they finally allowed to open cinema in saudi arabia

for the people who don't know , we never had any cinema here, thousands of people had to travel to Bahrain or Qatar or UAE to watch movies at cinema.

of course , living there i know what they gonna do , there is gonna be strict censorship , so no kissing scene or any nudity.

update :

"the Saudi Film Commission ( there is Film Commission here? ) announced to sign a deal with business men to open the first movie theater in Riyadh , and they can be assured they will use the Islamic tradition and home tradition"

figured this out.

Edit:

The dream is dead :(
Maybe they wanna announce it later?
Or some Isis group threaten them?

summery : the General Commission for Audiovisual Media just deny the announcements of accepting to open movie theater in saudi arabia , even if the announcer is the national TV it self

tl;dr :
This happened

With access to the Internet and no cinemas, I assume piracy was pretty common?
Or were movies sold in blu-Ray while skipping cinema releases?

pretty much , because we can't access to sites like netflix or HBO or hulu
and we have to wait 8 month for the blue ray to be releases
the price for one blue ray movie is like $50-$60 , so it's very expansive , and it's censored.

also, not all movies come here in blue ray , many can't enter.

Don't people in SA think that it sucks that other countries have so much they don't have?

This broke up communist countries, but it seems like people in SA don't really care that much

As long as you are provided for and have a good standard of living, I don't see it being that much of a problem. When that standard goes down, people will demand change. Considering Saudi Arabia is basically a big welfare state run on oil money, they are going to get into trouble with it sometime when the money runs out. The low oil price right now is already a problem if it keeps up too long.

Lol, that's even worse than Qatar. Mad Max was shown in full here, with the exception of the 'that's bait' moment and the milking of the women in the beginning.

L.O.R.D, is it risky to download uncensored movies online?

As in, if the government finds out could you face some legal ramifications?

I heard they can't have hot dogs there because of the pork content so they serve Haramburgers instead.

I'm here all week.

Maybe for the North African market? I don't know.

Mmmhhh is that TV ? THen maybe.

But there's no censorship of the sort in North Africa. They might cut sex scenes but they don't blur bodies.

Plus I know they use the French dub versions as everyone speaks French there

Here in Pakistan, the milking scene, the
un-born baby being cut out
scene and 1 or 2 f-bombs were censored.

right now , there is no licensed store to download movies legally
so there is no risks

oh come on , that was very week joke

hot dogs every where ( chicken and cow meat )

Strange... I went to see The Good Dinosaur today (in Dubai) and they didn't show the short (Sanjay's Super Team) before the main feature. I think they censored it completely.

If it's any consolation it was supposed to be a bad joke.
