Shinji Mikami's THE EVIL WITHIN |OT| Where's everyone going? Tango?

So that guy (Abyss) completed the game. Took him almost 16 hours and 47 deaths.

Looks like there are no extra unlockable modes or outfits.... However there are unlockable weapons.

He unlocked
machine gun and rocket launcher and got some extra skill points.
You also unlock model viewer for characters, enemies, weapons.

No or minor spoilers just unlockables/rewards screens:

This is disappointing. No unlimited ammo mode/ extra mode? No new costumes? Only
two unlockable weapons
? Oh come on, Mikami.

I played Dishonored from a work colleague. It was the german version and it had, let me think, german, french, spanish and italian. Weird as that may be.

I also had a look at ogdb.eu, a german database for games with infos like languages included on the discs and, well, that seems to be business as usual with Bethesda.

Some examples:

http://ogdb.eu/index.php?section=game&gameid=61956

http://ogdb.eu/index.php?section=game&gameid=51118

http://ogdb.eu/index.php?section=game&gameid=70853

These all list multiple languages, only English is missing. Which is weird because releases are always "Multi-language 5". Must be an error.

My shop tested the German version after I called them, so it's pretty safe to say it's true.

You need to ask them to put the console on English/English-locale, if the game won't let you choose at startup.

Or test it at the shop yourself when you pick it up. My little finger tells me there's definetely English VO on that disc.

fake EDIT:
Somehow I already had Alkastelca on ignore *PHHEWWW*
With that, I vanish into the darkness until reviews are up.

real EDIT:
Someone needs to GIF this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8_bl1kfaeg

Absolutely zero spoilers, just a close-up of Sebastian's face. Forgot who posted this but thanks.

It's a game only shop. They ain't stupid.

Ok, here in Italy street date has been broken and a user on a Italian site confirmed there are 4 languages to choose from: French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Honestly, The E3 2014 angle is actually the best for gameplay. I don't really understand what they are going for in the final build.

I imagine it's because they found it better for the game?

The E3 one might look the best from our perspective, but the people behind the decision have a much deeper understanding of the game and it's gameplay rhythm, so I don't doubt they made a decision that they felt was the best for what they wanted to achieve.

Plus they have a shit ton of playtesting to back up various decisions in the project.

I doubt they just adjusted the camera because why the hell not.

It's not an error. Bethesda has done this several times in the past already. A 'FIGS'-version sold in all countries with French, Italian, German and Spanish as their primary language with only those languages included and a usually English-only version sold in the UK and rest of Europe.
There is no rule, that games with multiple languages have to be 'multi-5'.
Eidos did the same with Deus Ex Human Revolution as well. Fortunately that was an exception. For Bethesda it's not.

The description of Easy mode says that auto aim is on by default. Does that mean that it's automatically enabled when you play on Easy but can be turned off, or is there no choice?

Seems pretty obvious to me, they want the fucked up shit you're looking at to be front and center rather than a big body taking up half the screen.

Pretty much .. i mean its not like you don't see the damn character at all .. every time you're *not* aiming, you're pretty much seeing the same fine looking back side.

He tried changing it in the "GENERAL" tab ?
You can select voice and text there.

I demand receipts.

I guess he did try that way, and the result is: German, French, Spanish and Italian.

From Bethsoft forums

Gstaff: Looking into it, but it varies by region on console. I believe that outside of the UK (which has English and Russian on it), the European release includes French, Italian, German, Spanish.

With PC, it should have similar options to switch languages as our other games have on Steam.

And more

people who got the game early in France confirm english is unavailable.

It's so disappointing. I hope they make it optional at least.. so much atmosphere lost.
I remember playing Uncharted with a dutch dub. That blew my mind.

This is rubbish, sadly i read this just hours after my order has been sent out for shipping.
why did they do this, i can understand in tight spaces but every time i aim, what a joke.

Edit: yay! I called up and my pre-order hasn't been sent out just yet, and i managed to cancel at the last minute.
Will wait for more gaf impressions instead, if they changed the camera so drastically who knows what else they changed from the first few trailers i saw.

Jesus Christ, you're actually serious. lol

How is atmosphere lost by pulling the camera in a bit?

Well it's largely subjective, but I miss the cinematic framing of the main character mostly staying in the image. Even if that would make it harder to aim or see what you're aiming at, it seems much more cinematic to me.

The current default (?) aiming angle seems like it would be suited for specific weapons, but not for something relatively close-range like a shotgun or pistol.

Two quick things from the guy on PS3 who's finished the game;

In New Game+, there is a chapter select.

Akumu Difficulty description reveals one of the reasons why the difficulty is so difficult.... In Akumu difficulty, one hit from anything will kill you.

Well I am a PC Gamer and will play it with a mouse ... so I love the final version of the aiming because it reminds me of shooters. Glad they changed it. Perfect aim helps to preserve ammo and makes surival easier.

Those are heartbreaking receipts.
No English in boxed versions in those regions.

What do for example BENELUX and Switserland get then ?

"Hey, they didn't complain about it with TESV and dishonored"

You can always revert back to the PSN (UK ?) version.

This is actually pretty fucked up. This is a dealbreaker for me.

E3 2013 was the best.

Don't know how I feel about this.

Would you care to elaborate on why it's a deal breaker?

Question: Wouldn't you rather thrust the people making the game to make the correct decision, rather then a perceived correct decision based on footage and not hands on gameplay from you?

This is what I don't get. The guys that have been working on this game for 4 years made the decision to do this, a typical over the shoulder view while aiming isn't what they wanted, why does it need to be that?

Every single bit of info about this game has people chime in and say this or that is a dealbreaker or preorder cancelled. This isn't directed at anyone in particular but holy fuck gamers are picky these days.

The Order puts cinematic flair above gameplay - GAF gets out the pitchforks and torches.

The Evil Within makes changes to improve the gameplay at the expense of cinematic flair - GAF gets out the pitchforks and torches.

I can't really tell from the last two shots if the "zoom" is actually more than just moving Sebastian more off screen, or if it's an actual zoom. The last shot makes it look like this type of aiming makes it a lot easier to hit specific points on the body, but I can't tell if it's just that the enemy is closer.

Jesus Christ, you're actually serious. lol

of course i'm serious.
If they changed something that i see as being a major aspect of the game so late on, then who knows what else they removed or changed. I only saw the first few trailers which looked amazing but going by that image a lot might have been changed.
Gaf will call me stupid and say it add's to the suspense but i disagree, zoom in the camera by all means but having an extreme zoom like aim every time i shoot anything is ridiculous.

I'm still holding out that people are wrong and that it's only in certain tight spaces but it's not looking good.

I'm thrusting something in their direction right now

I'm avoiding the enemy spoilers, and thankfully the guy has decided not to post story spoilers. -3-

Those unlockable images above quoted, you might want to avoid, I think the final boss is in the chapter clear screen.

I did glance at the unlockable weapon spoilers though. There's probably more unlockables for beating the game on Nightmare and Akumu difficulty, but for those curious on this, the weapons you unlock for beating the game on Survival difficulty are:

For completing the game on Survival, you get a Machine Gun, a Rocket Launcher, and 50,000 additional Green Gel for New Game+. Confirms that the Rocket Launcher is not infinite ammo for beating on survival.

A reminder would be that New Game+ can only be used on the difficulty you've beaten or lower, you can't select a higher difficulty you have not completed yet with New Game+.

Again. Why do you believe that they are doing something wrong? Maybe they playtested the game for a year and found out it didn't work with that camera, and they moved it closer because it made for a better game?

And you haven't played it, you're judging based on screenshots/video and making a perceived "I know what's best, fuck the people who actually made it and have a crazy deep understanding of the game".

I can see why you think it is visually more interesting with the character in full view, but if the consequence of that is a worse playing game, then I'm more confident in the people who designed the damn thing to do the right thing, rather then people who haven't even touched the game yet, nor been able to compare and test every iteration of the camera in the game.

How do you know they did this last minute? They've clearly been experimenting/tweaking the camera since at least early 2014 since it was different for E3 2014.

No one who's playing the game has complained about the aiming camera, so that's a good thing.

And the camera was dynamic in the demo, and sometimes aimed in the way it aims in the final game. Honestly, I hardly noticed, and I think I know why they changed it from playing it. The enemies move around a lot, there's traps on walls and the floor sometimes. I think they went to this aiming mode so Sebastian is not blocking part of the screen and making a blind spot for himself to be hit at or not see something when aiming.

So, the regular switching from cinematic TPS to FPS isn't jarring? Or break immersion, particularly for your RE4 veterans? (Haven't played it yet, inquiring)

It's not FPS. It's just zoomed in. You can still see some of the arms. It's not going from RE4 to CoD.

Exactly, the key word here is maybe, hence why i cancelled my order until a later date.
Maybe it's better maybe it s not, why can't someone put a game purchase on hold until they find out more information.
I'm not saying fuck the people that made it, i'm saying as it stands and if this is true then i'm massively disappointed.Until i read peoples impressions that have played through the game and say it's ok or it actually does change depending on the location, until then i will wait.
