My wife and I re-did our living room earlier this year. We were largely inspired by many of the pictures from early in this thread, so I would like to thank everyone for inspiring us with such great interior design.

We ended up selling this house (we are in the process of building!), but looking through these pictures made me feel very nostalgic about our first house. I'll be sure to post new pictures early next year once we get moved in to our new house!

We went for a very clean look, and I took great care to hide all traces of cords.

It looks lovely, but... That plasma must be unwatchable during daylight.

It is unwatchable during the day :(

I had no idea that the screen would be so reflective when I purchased the set, because our last TV did not have any glare issues whatsoever. It'll definitely be something I research before getting my next set.

Does anyone know of a way to reduce screen glare? At this point we just need to pull the drapes when we want to watch TV.

Blackout curtains about your only solution.

Finally got some of my stuff in from storage so began putting my little room together. This is just a start as all my normal stuff comes in second week of December from Germany...most of my game machines, big TV and about half of my games collection. The rest is still in CA and I'm gonna ship that out sometime next year.

Some of this tech is five years old...like the iMac and little Samsung HDTV. But it is going to hold me over till December so I can get some gaming other than handhelds and iPhone. And Indian blu-rays!

Neo 26. A little beat-up bastard but I love him. Has an on-the-fly rotating screen:

Closet. Where all my game systems will be going, bottom shelves will be for games. There are about thirty arcade sticks to the left...so happy to have them back.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Another pretty rad gaming setup. You put like 4 of these together every year, so I suppose you're pretty much an expert now.

Well, I'm here in Maryland/DC till 2014, or twenty-four months so I'm getting settled. Plus, I work for Medical Command now, and they never deploy. In fact, I work with 95% civilians. 9-4 job with the normal military perks, like monthly four-day weekends

Indeed. I'm proud of my line time and the effort our infantry Company did on that little piece of land, but do not care to do it again. Our Brigade lost ten soldiers the year we were there and I knew two of them, one was from my platoon and I was the medic who worked on him. Don't want to be in that position again.

Taken from atop a chair in my kitchen. Notice the corner to the right of the TV, void of anything.
8223332748_e376a75a22_c.jpg

Picture from said corner. New furniture 95% likely to have it's corner piece here.

Photo from back right of room
8222258029_32493a3e29_c.jpg

Took photos of the room because we just bought this sectional to fill a seating void.
This isn't the exact layout we bought, but close. We didn't get the big piece on the right, but instead added another full seat on the left side and ended the right with a normal reclining seat.
z6uBx.jpg

Won't receive the new furniture for a few weeks. With the center seat likely going into the corner of the room, right of the TV's current spot, the sides will extend against the walls. We're thinking the entertainment stand and TV will go where our media shelving is currently. Will probably switch to wall mounting the TV, and definitely want a new entertainment stand underneath it.

Will probably having pictures of the new setup in 2013 thread, but who knows.

I guess I'm blind as a bat, but that tv seems too small from that distance. I'm probably just blind though.

While none of my photos are taken from the seating prospective, for gaming I would prefer our current couch to be a bit closer (TV is just a 42") as I often end up sitting on the ottoman. For television and movies I have no qualms about it, but yea....change is coming.

The current arrangement has been this way since we moved in back in Nov 2009. It's exciting to finally switch things up with more than just furniture shifts.

Those stacked CRTs are awesome, how stable are they?

Just saw this post, but yeah they are pretty stable, They 2 big ones are really stable, the 3 stack was tougher I tried to put it into a 2x2 square but the silver one is really rounded while the other ones are nice and flat on top.

So brentech, what do you ride?

lol - Giant Revel 0

I have the Crank Bros Candy 2 pedals on it, but I broke my ankle real bad back in June - so I might not be doing any mountain biking when Spring comes back around (after a lot of PT I can jog, but sprinting is real hard and I just don't have great burst from those muscles yet - I wouldn't trust the ankle on our local IMBA trails at this point). Might buy a road bike since that's where I'll likely spend most my time.

I have a custom Vika Amon desk system from Ikea, in an L-shaped config - Super cheap too, my set was just around 230ish$ including the drawer and you can pretty much customize everything!

Heres what mine looks like, as you can see it can comfortably hold the weight of 3monitors and a loaded computer case. For a DIY desk, its surprisingly sturdy:

The place looks comfy. I'd stick a nice plant or two in there.

Yeah the pictures make the speaker look way bigger that it actually does lol. Its actually about 4 feet tall. Indeed, i think a couple of plants would look nice =)

I have no idea how you guys deal with wire management so well; my setup looks embarrassing in comparison.

Maybe I shouldn't have gone with wired -everything-.

Still, I kind of want to show off my eyefinity standing desk, so I'm gonna take an hour or two and clean up some of the wire clutter. Does anyone have any suggestions, aside from "use lots of zipties"?

Take a look at the ribbed tubing as well, to keep grouped wires in one sleeve. It cleans it up as well.

Finally got my other stuff delivered from from Europe and have put my room all together. Nothing is gonna change for a good while. Just gotta get the two cabinets working (one needs rewiring, the other, maybe PSU issues or something).

My room is about 150 square feet so it was a bit tough to fit everything and make it livable and nice. But after a few changes I settled on a setup for maximum gaming (and movie) pleasure.

Here is what you come in to as you enter. The kitchen and bathroom are through that door so if was a tight fit.

C2EA6EAA-81C7-4EB9-A6A3-69AB12F26887-295-0000001DB5F8464B.jpg

This is my workspace and place for my big screen. It is just to the right as you enter. I've got the important things here...the two new handhelds. A PS3 for my indian blu-rays, my brand new Wii U, and my old school japanese PS2 slim for shooting fun. I also have a little Fiio audio amp since I like to game and watch movies with earbuds:

352B84FF-0FCB-4BCE-99FA-844C62B72B8D-295-00000019E749F16C.jpg

In my little pull-out drawer (the thing for a keyboard) I've put an upscaler, an american and japanese Wii for VC and a PC Engine. All at easy reach to get routed through the upscaler. PCE not hooked up yet since I don't have an RGB cable/mod for that.

D5D88297-D86C-4274-AB5C-082A0117BD96-295-00000019DA669381.jpg

360 didn't fit so it goes to the left of the desk on a box that I use to store controllers. I also got my supergun here so I can put it through the upscaler on the HDTV. Used as a doorstop, now!

C7E02E40-0268-4630-BEA4-4155D336A1CE-295-00000019DEF9509D.jpg

In my desk drawers I made one store all my controllers at easy reach (and a little PCE stick):

45E8FCC3-43C3-4456-8B78-D27FA6A1ABD1-295-00000019D1C1D1A8.jpg

Bottom drawer is my Saturn Collection (mostly shooters) and odd goofball titles for other systems:

75BB0FA6-BC5F-4A20-A464-A12B74668158-295-00000019D5F5C273.jpg

Not game related but on the windowsill I have a small selection of vinegar based hot-sauces. When I was in Germany they had no selection whatsoever and it was one of things I missed the most so I've been buying every type from the grocery store:

BE7C7523-5911-4D71-8789-9D0DFFC74FBD-295-00000019CD62A10C.jpg

This is in the closet. I'm storing all my games in here. There are three drawers below with all the Wii, DS, PSP, and other systems. Some retro Sega consoles, and a bunch of little handhelds. Some PCBs up top and extra older PS3/360s. Receiver is not plugged in. But I'm going to use it to drive some speakers for my broadcast monitor (I'll remove the PCBs from the top so they don't burn up!):

My little SNK cabinet with Ibara in it:

3456F8D3-581A-40DF-AD5D-7BB1CC803809-295-00000019F7CF3BCA.jpg

I don't have an arcade stool so I'm using this little chair I brought back from afghanistan. Perfect height, and does not take too much room and folds up to be stored to the left:

72ACD4E4-9CA2-4C97-AF90-7046F9A43B8C-295-00000019C9161508.jpg

On top of the cabinet I have my two gaming dolls. Gonna put my Samus up there too. Also, two speakers and J-360 and my favorite stick on top of the broadcast monitor next to the cab:

A81DC28A-A709-424F-8E4C-7861082DBAE4-295-00000019FB53C557.jpg

Broadcast monitor all set to go! Just waiting for a simple coupler to connect the two male VGA cables since I left the piece in california. Also, going to hook the Saturn up to this beast:

B13D8477-B49F-4E68-BA3E-F3E9E76143DC-295-00000019F3315607.jpg

The two other cabinets. I use the Astro control panel as my nightstand since it is right next to my bed. Got my Wii U controller right there. So awesome for playing without the TV:

A5C176E3-3CA2-4D87-853C-72E4CC5C43A2-295-00000019FF457363.jpg

View from my bed. TV looks small in the photo but at 40" it is HUGE for the space. It will mainly be used for retro consoles, VC, Wii U, and watching indian blu-rays:

Should be good till 2014, so this is my 2013 setup. I'm pretty pleased how I made it all work given the small space. Once I get the other two cabinets running my little room will be a straight-up mini arcade. It is gonna be fricken' awesome!

Yes Boss! that is amazing what you accomplished with the space you have. Everything looks great and is so organized.

Do you use all the arcade sticks for fighting games? I always wanted to ask why some people have such large collections of them

I am so embarrassed with my setup compared to these. I may have to use these posts as inspiration and make a new years resolution to clean everything up.

Don't really play that many fighting games. I like SFIV, though. I just collect them for fun...kinda arbitrary. I enjoy seeing what companies do to them as they release more and more. I do use a half-dozen for shooting games, though. I've got about fifty sticks here and I've got another forty and the bulk of my gaming collection still in CA. I'm probably going to ship that out next year so that I finally have everything in one place.

bodyboarder,

If you mean the hard cases for DS and stuff, yeah totally keep those. Cardboard boxes for stuff like GB, I don' really care. I'll keep them for a bit then usually throw them out.

My setup is in complete shambles right now due to having moved from my apartment back home this August... It'll be in shambles again when I move back into university dorms in January. I think I should take a vow of gaming poverty and consolidate my stuff somehow.

I love tiffin boxes, don't see many people use them outside of India though, well, for lunch anyway :p

I like the cheapy stainless ones. I got this one for plating a dish a few years ago, and have some other at different shapes. My mom has some really nice big ones made of brass with ornate handwork and like half a dozen layers, from the fifties and sixties. They were always on bookshelves along with other things like samovars.

Think I'm going to be buying a bigger TV along with receiving the new furniture.
I found from my basement I have access to drill up into the walls we would mount the TV on to hide wires, and devised a plan to house my UPS backup in the new entertainment stand or cover it another way.

Coming together in my head. Now I just have to work it out physically.
