I'm really looking forward to play this game. What a shame that we won't have a Mac OSX version at least in the short term.
Yeah, that is unfortunate. Especially since my bootcamp partition seems to be completely borked. Actually, my iMac won't even boot Windows off of the DVD.

SimCity Fans! E3, the largest North American videogame-centric conference, is just around the corner. We’ll be there – sun, ocean and a large conference center full of the best video games of the year? Do people actually say no to that? Of course before we head to LA and to E3, we want to share some of our details with you. You will see the game. Yup. You, the fan, the gamer, the soon-to-be-mayor. When you watch our latest trailer full of only in-game footage, you will witness some of the consequences your city will face like raging fires, pollution and protestors. What city will you build?

This is merely a taste of what we’re doing at E3. Tune in on June 4th during our press conference and see what the game looks like. Spike TV will be broadcasting it live, click here to watch it. After you’ve watched the live stream, come back to SimCity.com and see the world premier (did we say first ever shown?), in-game screens. We’re sure you are still going to have a ton of questions so we’ve partnered with Origin.com to set-up a developer chat with our very own Lead Producer, Kip Katsarelis. He’ll be there to answer your questions live from E3 at noon PST on June 5th, click here for more information.

Pretty excited to see this at E3, and very happy that they'll be showing in-game footage.

Liking what I'm seeing, I expect it'll look even better come next year :)

It looks a bit like they're going for that miniature/toy look graphically. At least the trailer seemed that way. Really liking what we've seen so far.

Been playing SC4 again for the past month and it is still a tough game.

Playing it for the first time and have previously only played Simcity 3000. Is there any way to adjust wage rates for schools, clinics etc quickly? It's very annoying continuously checking each of your civic buildings to see if there's enough people employed to provide for the population. This wouldn't be so bad if it was quick and easy to track down the buildings but as it is it takes me ages to find them.

It looks great so far. I just hope it plays as well as it looks. If they dumb it down too much, or make it too much of a "sim action sequence" game, then I'll lose interest real fast. Hopefully at E3 we get some indication of how well its playing.

Put me on the pro-toy look side. Looks great. Hopefully they're not going to make this game require a beast of a rig to play. I'd love to be playing this on my Macbook if possible.

^^ the "blur" is the tilt-shift look they are trying to achieve in order to make the game look like a miniature model. I also think the tilt-shift may be a way to help with draw distances for the 360 degree camera - so there might not be an option to turn it off.

Hopefully some other screens and a new video will reassure me, but those pics have me a little worried (not in terms of graphics though). I am getting a feeling of a neighbourhood or town simulator rather than a city simulator. Some of those buildings look like they are designed to be wall to wall, but have a large amount of space in between. I am hoping we will still be able to make extremely dense areas.

Also, judging by the screens, from a custom content point of view (which is where I spent most of my time with SC4), it looks like the engine might not be able to handle custom buildings with a large amount of polygons. Most buildings can get away with highly optimized textures to get a decent look, but some buildings may be a bit more difficult to reproduce. I am still excited and optimistic, just cautious.

Yeah I realize that. It still looks ugly as shit in the first screenshot and I can't imagine looking at that for hours.

80 fucking euros for a digital deluxe version and 60 euros for the standard version.

Publishers are ever pushing for console prices on the pc.

The problem with the shitty tilt shift is that it doesn't seem to correspond to distance. Which ruins the illusion 100% of the time.

The entire reason the illusion works is because it simulates a depth of field that people usually associate with macro photography. But when your blur is just fucking thrown up at the top and bottom of the viewing plane rather than just decreasing the depth of field, it looks like shit.

Yea. Go to the budget tab and click on Health & Education.

While the videos look very good, I am still concerned about the online only aspect of the game. They keep talking about interconnected player cities that effect each other, and challenges that require teamwork. THAT worries me. Will we even be able to create an entire region on our own? Will there be any semblance of solo play at all in SimCity 5? Are we allowed to make huge online regions, or are we only given a pre-determined size of land to build on, and that is all we have to work with? So many large questions, the answers of which will either make this game incredible, or they will ruin it completely and force me to still play SimCity 4 forever.

I'm very hopeful and excited, but I'm also very worried. I want this to be a good game so badly...

I'm guessing here, but it kind of feels like you just choose to land in a region with other players when you start a city...

I really hope you can build many buildings like in the older Sim City games and not putting down one house/factory or business place like in the other Sim City type games

So has it been confirmed that you zone the city and not just plop buildings? that would be a major dealbreaker.

Yeah, you still zone and lay out RCI like every other SimCity game. The ploppables are mainly for power (coal mine, wind farm, etc.) and government-type buildings (police station, sewage plants, stadiums, etc.).

And each ploppable can be upgraded with tons of different modules (more garages for the fire station, extra hotel space for a casino, etc.). Tons of customization.

Graphics are so incredible.

I've been holding off buying a new PC for so long, just so I could get the best bang for my buck; Sim City is really going to pull me back into PC gaming.
