It does seem much better in wide screen. The new leaked videos make the game seem like Sonic the Hedgehog genesis on GBA. *vomit* I'm sure that playing in wide screen won't fix some of the more pressing problems, though.

Nope, not by a long shot (speed and physics). The rest, such as enemy appearance or not seeing places that might be over spikes or pits, should be remedied.

Wonder who is going to end up making the official topic :lol

I think I'd like to do it, since I was the only one posting the site updates here for a while, and I won't write the post saying "lololol so bad!" without playing the thing first. Then again, there is a visual standard expected of official threads now with pretty banners and everything, my skill with that may not be up to snuff.

Okay, downloaded the videos, watched them. I'll concede defeat. This is just plain awful. Everything. God, I didn't think even SEGA could screw this one up.

I'll never make that mistake again.

Oh SEGA... how you've fallen... this is so mother fucking broken it's unbelievable.

*goes back to playing Sonic Unleashed*

can't wait for Sonic 4: Episode 2.

That's some nice strawman you've got going there. :|

just watched the latest videos.
there are no words for casino stage act 2.
I mean, this looks worse than the fucking mine cart stage.
what the hell were the devs thinking??

this must be some sort of cruel joke.

a sonic pinball stage in a jump'n run??

my god, please cancel it already before it's too late

I wouldn't go that far. Mine Kart stage looked like rancid shit. Act 2 of Casino zone just looked pointless.

Right. The mine cart is crap, but at least you actually DO something. Casino Street Act 2 is just going through the same loop over and over and over and over.

yea......did you see act 2?? did you??

That actually was Sonic during the 90's.

But even so, Mario is still more popular. You are pretty dumb if you try to argue that.

uhm....no

In the 1990s, a national survey found that Mario was more recognizable to American children than Mickey Mouse.

I saw other levels too. I don't see a problem changing the objectives up through out the game. There are 3 full acts anyway plenty of levels IMO.

At this point they should just throw in a barrel level.

Definitely the least fun stage set so far, but I agree. I was never a fan of the originally Casino Night Zones though.

How are were they proven wrong? If they think the game looks fun and are willing to put aside some quarrels (physics are the big topic) that the old-school fans have, then that's all that matters. They're not "wrong", they're just interpreting the game differently.

I'm in the old-school camp here, but shitting on others with a different opinion? Grow up. They're not right or wrong. They simply like the game.

Am I the only one who saw the Casino Street videos and thought they looked fun? Well, Act 2 is kind of pointless and dragged on, but after reading people's reactions to it I was expecting something like the minecart. I'm sure this game will end up mediocre for a number of reasons, but I don't think this level is one of them. Well, maybe the boss. You aren't supposed to be able to hit him from the ground, damn it! Or were you I forget

I agree with this whole heartedly. The game seems like a good time to me, its early I might change my mind. One thing for sure though Sonic stirs things up like Eminem LOL.

Was Sonic's appearance in Brawl the only good to come out of Sonic in the last 5 years?

Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing says "hi!" It's better than Mario Kart Wii. Seriously.

I don't think Casino Street Zone Act 2 counts as a full act. It's a single loop you have to go through repeatedly.

You do not deserve to have that sonic avatar after saying that.

The Olympic Games ones with Mario were pretty good too and sold like hotcakes. I played the summer one and found it lots of fun. So yeah, Nintendo makes the best Sonic games confirmed.

Well considering they sort of suggested later episodes will have Tails and Knuckles in them, at least those two won't have the homing attack... maybe?

....Only those games were made by Sega with permission of Mario's license by Nintendo. Sorry.

I can fully understand this, but I feel everyone is being much too harsh on this game. It looks like a reasonably fun platform game to me. People are getting too caught up on the details and ignoring the fact that it may actually be a fun game in its own right.

Polyphony Digital can make the physics of Gran Turismo 5 more arcadelike and quite fun so that everyone enjoys the game. But that would be one of the worst things they can do.

Alternatively they could rename the game to Gran Turismo Arcade Attack and no one would mind. Call it "GT5" and that's when you earn the ire of people.

Dimps is a perfectly fine and competent developer when given the right creative leadership. Ono worked with them fine. Iizuka apparently does not.

You are likely correct.

Sonic Rush at least looked decent.

I blame Sega more than I blame Dimps. $5 episodic content...bad move. iPhone and Wii versions that look exactly like the PS3/360 versions...bad move. Iizuka in charge...bad move.

Are you new here or something? Because you sound like you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

There were people telling us that Sega finally had the game like the non-furries liked. Turns out...they didn't. This has nothing to do with other people's opinions or whatever the fuck you are babbling about.

Did you even read my other fucking posts? I never said that the game will suck. I am looking forward to it, and for all I know it could be a great game. It's fans like you, who are the problem. You accept everything Sega shits out, without a word.

This is Sonic 4. I want this to be good. I deserve a good game, after seeing the franchise waddle in fucking watery shit for 16 years. Sega is listening? Good! Maybe they can change the sloppy crap and give me something to really, really love.

As of now, this looks like it will be a monumental upgrade on the current Sonic games. In fact, I'm pretty sure, it'll be a more than decent platformer. But yes, it'll be hampered by the stupid bullshit and if it didn't matter, half the board wouldn't be infuriated.

Sega say they want to please us, and they give us a new 2D Sonic title...then they unleash Eggman, homing attacks, animu Sonic, shitty fucking ass music, awful fucking level design with absolutely no sense of good platforming, broken ass physics, stupid ass gimmick Acts and that fucking mine cart of doom all at the same time. There is still time...and hope. Nothing that can't be fixed (no it's fucking done. This game will be balls). I am not proclaiming the death of Sonic (today, I am). In fact, this bears the hallmarks of a triumphant return (what the fuck was I thinking?). But when a possibly average game is viewed as a goddamn savior, you know your series is in deep shit.

I won't put out for Sega. Give me Sonic 4, a real Sonic 4 or give your current fans more Sonic fucking Unleashed, the revenge of the greeneyed hedgebitch.

Needed to update my post from the day the trailer was first shown.

How goes those strawmen you're constructing. I love it when I see the old 'there were people'.

Tilt at Windmills all you want though, by all means.

Did that SEGA PR guy ever come back here to explain or spin all this?

Also after this trainwreck is released we can probably look forward to at least 2 more episodes.

It's nice though that Sonic 4's quality is getting defended through the same argumentation that allows us to see games like Just Dance for the Wii for what they truly are.

Actually, I'm not. I've been here well before the first trailer showed up. I haven't seen your name around to be honest. I guess you're posts didn't strike as me anything worth noting.

I'm not even going to be to answer you straight, but I'll say this... You're just a dipshit, you are not some 'voice of reason', and your response is utterly fucking ridiculous. LULZ "WE" TOLD SEGA NOT TO DO EET BUT THEY DID IT FOR TEH FURRIES NEWAY.

That's babbling.

Well, loosus whole spiel is about how people were overreacting and that the game would eventually win them over. It's not about it being a quality product for some but to the people who were skeptical(and received all kinds of hell for it). I think even the people defending this game are making it to be more than what it really is.

Half-assed Sonic game is half-assed. Some people will play it because they love Sonic so much. Some people won't. Life goes on.

Using the term half assed to reference the scope of the budget etc of this game is fine, especially in comparison to the budget/effort of the time of the original Sonic titles, but that doesn't mean people will only play it 'because they love Sonic'.

I skipped every Sonic game post Adventure 2 until Unleashed, why can't I have license to say that I think Sonic 4 looks good and I'll play it? I certainly skip Sonic games that I think look like crap, so overbearing love certainly isn't the core factor in why I will probably play this game.

EDIT: I bought Rush so I guess I didn't really skip every single game.

Do you get anti-depression pills as part of your employment contract when you work at Sega's Public Relations? Worst job in the industry. I'd rather be a tester on Furcadia even.

Just Dance is a far more respectable product than Sonic 4.

I can remember in the 90's when Sega was huge. I'd drive by their London HQ with the 'TAKES AGES' sign every day on the way to work, they'd buy up every advertisement billboard for miles.

They used to buy up the full advertisement slots every night on ITV, which is the most viewed commercial channel in the UK, the whole 4 minutes between Coronation Street, their most watched program. I've never seen any company ever do that since.

It still amazes me to see they are a third party developer.

It's title that's fucking things up. If this game wasn't called Sonic 4, the finger pointing wouldn't be as bad. But since it is, people are holding it to the pedigree of the prequels. At a $5 pricepoint, it is what it is.

Shovelware? Thats what the twin-titan of the 16-bit era has been reduced to in the genuinely titled 4th outing? I mean you can defend that, but I think people were expecting a bit more than a cheap piece of shit looking honestly worse than the portable outings due to lackluster animation, a basic remix of all old level stuff and bosses in a needlessly episodic format with entirely gimmick based Acts.

"Its Sonic 4!" and "Its only $5!" are at such opposite ends of the scale for what message this whole project should have been sending its amazing.

Ugh, I honestly don't know what I'll do during the month in which Sonic 4 and Rocket Knight come out when there'll be "I DONT SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT" people all over the place. I've certainly learned my lesson on "wanting sequels to old franchises". Its just too crushing when they do get made and are astonishing levels of shit.
