Sonic The Hedgehog Offical Thread

you Chris, I got another question for ya

After beating Story mode. Can you just replay the Action Stages alone?

I would put up with the story one time, one time only if I was permitted to replay the Action Stages alone (like SA2, SH, Heroes)

yes sir :)

okay, I'm buying it. I am able to put up with a shitty story ONE time. All I want is to replay the Action Stages at will

hell, even 33% of Shadow The Hedgehog has Stages worth replaying (The good ones)

Shadow stages never had any of the flow of Sonic Adventure 2 stages, nowhere near. I never play the levels for any kind of pleasure just to get A ranks.

There were some levels that were decent, it just wasn't always clear when you were doubling back or not.

I liked that "Circuit" stage, for one.

Oh there's also loading within the action stages. :)
All of them have multiple sections(sort of like acts if you will) and you get plenty of loading there.

For all the good things the game has it is seriously crushed by the horrible horrible lack of polish.

Make sure to buy the one gem that allows Sonic to shrink in size. Get that, shrink, and continually mash the jump button and you'll actually fly in the air as long as you're hitting jump. It doesn't make any sense but it's awesome for exploring stages/cheating/whatever. Hopefully Sonic PS3 didn't fix this bug..but since they didn't fix anything else I'm not worried.

I just feel that when you play SA2 to get A ranks there is a certain flow to the level - a healthy balance between speed, tricks and destroying enemies (whilst still maintaining speed) that is not present in Shadow due to its stop and shoot emphasis.

66% of Shadow is bad, but 33% of it has good levels, the Circuit City and Mad Matirx levels are good, and all those Temple levels were good too. for the last stages, only the Falling one was good, the rest sucked. All the Urbain stages in Shadow sucked

omg the action stages are so fun! The town missions aren't that bad either.

Seriously Dark101 hit the nail on the head, literally the loading times kill the game.

Radical Highway in SA2 is one of my favourite stages ever. Hell... most of the Sonic/Shadow stages in SA2 are exactly how I'd like a 3D Sonic to be done... Anyway, I'll pick this game up when I can find it for $20.

I hate the game, I'm a long time Sonic fan and I am ashamed of this piece of turd I just bought.

Shadow The Hedgehog is superior game then Sonic PS3

The sliding on the water bit was the 1st warning "THIS GAME IS BAD" "THIS GAME IS BAD.
For starters, you are sliding on water,,, verry slowly,, but if you jump, you exit the sliding state and if land back on the water, you drown.. '(without any splash water effects of impacting on the water,, you just go through the water without splashing) (jesus, even Sonic Adventure 1 had some form of primitive splash water effect, are we in next gen now wf)

I have been playing Sonic PS3 for the past 2 hours and I'm not having fun at all at all.

The Mach Speed section of Wave Ocean really proved everything everyone said about unfinished, glitchy, and it makes no freakin sense.

I even went through the floor and out of the map and died on my first freakin day that I own the game. I didn't even try hard, I ran in Mach Speed through a rock and went through the bottom of the world.

The Town is so useless, the Princess is captured in the Desert so you must got to the Desert to save here, but you have to sit through the stupid Town missions,, I wounder if the Towns folks even care about their princess and instead preffer to pester you with their missions that block you from proceeding

I'm not having fun at all, Shadow The Hedgehog is a suprior game then SOnic PS3.

I beat Silver and I decided to stopp playing as soon as I was introduced to 2nd Town stage (yeah, there is a 2nd Town just to piss you off)

Why is there a stupid hub in a Sonic game?

Why is this so shitty?

r the whole freakin' game.
lame human character designs and uggly town.
blend weak towns folks bad models.
bad animation since the N64
they forgot what water is.
who coded this crap

a 4/10 is too generous.

I'm a SOnic Fan and I hearby proclaim this game to receive a
2/10

I'm going to EB and I'm selling this crap off and using the credit and put it down on hopefully on the Wii's better Sonic game

So this isn't even worth the $20 I am thinking of spending on it eventually?
gutter, I remember you being Canadian, EB Canada is giving $45 for Sonic PS3.

DUDE, i haven't felt so violated from buying such a bad game in a long long time.
Being a Sonic fan makes the pain even worse, I'm really angry

$45 CDN from EB is fine by me because this game isn't worth $6.99 is scratched, used and abused discount section.

Sonic Team San Francisco should be all fired

I am a huge Sonic fan I will be renting this game cause of the warning I have been getting. i am still optimistic that i can squeeze a little bit of fun out of the game.

I don't know about that. There are loads of similar things in that game. SA1 is even more screwed up than this new game (well, outside of the loading issues). It's just that, it was somehow more acceptable back then as it was a launch title back when 3D had been rough the previous gen.

As with SA1, the game was not properly tested for poor performance. If you make a mistake, the game basically breaks. Just wait until you experience the snowboarding. *shudder*

SA1 does have it's own problems, but at least it's playable and above all fun.
SA1 was faster, better control, and the level designs were better put together and made sense, I agree tha the Snow Boarding bit is it's worst Sonic moment but the rest is good and fun.

All you got to to do is play Emerald Coast in SA1 (wow, I'm having freakin fun)
Then play Wave Ocean in Sonic 360/PS3, (hey, I'm not having fun at all, wtf is this)

SOnic 360/PS3 is way slower, less responive, the collisions are glitchyer. The slow water sliding parts prove that the guys that made this game don't know Sonic (because in the 16-bit games, if he is going in fast... he would run on the water's surface a).
The Mach Speed moment just tosses you forward without control and breaks all Sonic logic from it's entire history, you cannot jump and kill enemies during this mode... wich makes no sense because in past Sonic, if you run fast and jump into a ball, then enemy would get hit. THe Mach Speed Segment really really got me angry, frustrated, and violated, it was Not Fun at all

Tails is Sonic/PS3 isn't not fun at all either, he is way way way slower, and he cannot attack with his tails and he throw Rings at enemies but can't even aim... terrible.

Tails in SA1 was fast and could attack with his tails and was responsiveFUN

Ins Sonic/PS3, the desert stage... WTF is that? you go through the sand when going at top speed and cannot jump out??
I remember Sandopolis Zone in S&K, if you got stuck in the sand you could jump out by rapidly jumping.
In SOnic 360/PS3, when you hit the sand, you die, you goy through and you die... terrible.

and the Town stages.............

Okay, so now it's clear to anybody NOT named Dave Halverson that this game is a filthy, flaming, pile of monkey shit.

I have a feeling this particular Sonic game will go down in video game history as among the most notoriously bad. Right alongside popular picks like Superman 64, E.T., and Kriss Kross: Make Your Own Music Video.

I put $5 VF5 at EB, I will trade in Sonic Shitty friends ($45) and slapped on my VF5 preorder and will end up with $50 down total on VF5

AM2 never lets me down, but Sonic Team has

I opened this thread to see if somehow the game turned around from all the negative impressions about the 360 version.

I guess not!

Guess I jsut wait for VF5 along with everybody else.

Microtransactions ahoy!

Very Hard mode can be bought for Sonic, Silver and Shadow at 350 Yen each in Japan now

If you were forced to buy either Sonic the Hedgehog or Tony Hawk's Project 8 for PS3 which one would you buy?

Project 8. It's being considered as one of the best games in the series and even though I hate skateboarding games I got some fun out of it.

Unless of course the PS3 version of Project 8 gives Cancer..wait that still makes it ten times better than Sonic.

Well damn. And here I was thinking it might not be THAT bad because I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 quite a bit while everyone hated it. Now it seems everyone else who liked SA2 hate this game. Dammit Sega...

Just to say, I loved sa1 and sa2, got all the emblems in both games twice (dc and gamecube) and this game is a terrible piece of shit far worse then anything. It becomes more apparent over time just how ****ing bad it is.

The fact they don't patch this insanely idiotic loading is just.. wow.

Sonic Wii ftw?

I love the Sonic and Shadow zones of Sonic Adventure 2 (but not the treasure hunting levels)

Sonic next gen is not on the same boat..

I imagined that it would control and feel like the DC SA games, but it does not.
It's really really really glitchy, slow and anger enducing.

It took me 15 tries to get passed the mach speed segment of Wave Ocean. Not because of a difficulty level, but because it was the most glitchy, non-sensical garbage I ever played.

Imagine, you are being pulled perpetually forward and do not control your forward velocity. There are many ill designed ramps, balconies and obstacles that can vertiually trap inside a pier overpasses' railing then since you are propelled forward automati, your character is being forced against the guard rail of the pier overpass and your character is throwntowards the right until it tries to find an opening of the guard rail or you die.
Jumping during the mach speed segements may have the most bizzare results.
Attempt to steer slightly Left or Right to avoid killer rocks and pressing the Jump button... you will be catapulted off screen to the side to your death.
You can kill enemies during the mach speed segment, even if you run at full speed and jump into a ball, if you hit a badnik = you die.

Firestorm, i understand you wish to experience yourself because you may believe in your heart that there may some GOOD in this game... but the sad reality is: this game is every Sonic Fans' worst nightmare.

Non-Sonic fans will just brush this off as a bad game and toss it.
Sonic Fans who had slight hopes will be crushed, betrayed, spit on and discraced from this game.

I thought it was just the Town Stages and Story that people complained about.
But No, the Action Stages are almost unplayable and extremely glitchy.

The 360 Demo is probably the most responsive playable thing on Sonic Next Gen and I thought that the rest of the Action Stages would be playable to a certain extent like the 360 Demo.

Nope, the other Action Stages are far far worse and the level designs + shoddy collisions, + non-sensical physics + frame rate drops = the worst Sonic game ever made

i made a typo mistake and I don't have edit button permitted

You can't kill enemies during the mach speed segment, even if you run at full speed and jump into a ball, if you hit a badnik = you die.

*fixed

Just got home - and played a bit, god damn it sucks, **** this I'm going out.

:btw.

It's not that the essental gameplay is bad, or horrid, and I'm sure gutter can agree, but the loading times really really really really do kill the game.

I disagree, I think it's all bad. Maybe you are more patient and you are more willing to give games a chance. I can't do that anymore, especially when Sonic is concerned, I have played many Sonic games in my life and rapidly get the feel of which are good and which are not.

This next gen game holds the candle as possibly the worst Sonic game ever made. Especailly it's next gen and you got about 15 years of better games.

I went to EB after work and I traded the game in for $45 CDN Store Credit and put the money on my VF5 pre-order

How does this compare with Sonic Heroes?

The Casino Park stage on Sonic Heroes was one of my favourite Sonic Levels ever. They could make a whole game out of it. That was really good.

..

It really does blow my mind at how universally panned this game is. I mean, even the hardcore Sonic fanboys are dissapointed with this game. And there are professional reviews as low as 2/10 for Sonic PS360.

I agree with SonicMegaDrive - this game will probably join the ranks of games such as Superman 64.

the worst thing is that before experiencing it for myself I could not believe that it would be in fact be as bad, but it was truly awful

like Sonic Heroes got critiqued from some, but I enjoyed and like Sonic Heroes.

Shadow got bashed, and I agree that that 66% of the game is not great, but the 33% good levels in Shadow made it worth playing just for certain paths.

I thought that Sonic Next Gen would of gotten similar negative reviews and I would of ended up liking it like the previous ones.............. but not this time. This time it is genuinely and honestly bad.

so, to all of you out who believes the game is just getting bad press and you think that you might like it anyway........ wrong, you will not like it at all, you will hate it.

a vasectomy of gaming, and I feel violated

trading this game in at EB for store credit made me feel allot better knowing that this is no longer my home anymore

I just rented the abortion that is Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS3. I thought I can get some enjoyment out of the game, it looks like I am one of the few that actually loved SA2 and really enjoyed Heroes. Nope, the game is a complete disaster, I don't even know where to begin.

You all know the loading screens by now, its worse than that video you saw, it happens all over the craptastic city you are forced to explore. You run around this uninspired place with boring NPC's, some have crappy side missions for you to do which is where all this loading takes place, none of the missions are fun. The city takes up so much time cause everything is loading, just let me go to one of the stages please. Oh and there is even loading in the stages, you are just running along and them BAM, load screen, wah?!

The action stages are a complete mess as well. The controls are horrible, everything is loose, the camera is trying to kill you. Sonic moves slower than in SA1 or 2, plus there is constant massive slowdown. Then mid level you become tails, he controls worse than Sonic. Trying to fly with him is like trying to control a drunk bee that is on crack. You fly up and the camera just stays on Tails, it doesn't adjust to let you see where you might be landing, you try to navigate tails and its just near impossible. Oh and his special move is to throw ring box bombs, wtf!?

The mach speed parts are near unplayable as well. Everything hurts you, if you hit a tree you lose rings, hit a wall lose rings, and don't try to jump cause that won't do you much good. The best way to stay on track is to do the ring dash but every time you do it the camera freaks out just a bit which is enough to send sonic off into a wall. AHHH!

The enemies in the game are crap. Sure they have never been good in Sonic games but at least in SA2 they served a purpose, you can chain them to get high scores and such, there was actually strategy. Here you get the same few robots, usually 4 or 5 at a time, they just stand there and shoot at you. All you have to do is jump attack them (which is also slow as hell), which is a series of X presses and they all die, no reward, nothing, just garbage in your way of more garbage.

I got to the snow level where you do the whole ski thing, there is no way they can screw that up right... oops. When skiing you don't automatically go down the slope like a normal person on a board would in here you can stop at any time and change direction, screw gravity, who needs it. The board controls almost like a tank, you need to hold up for it to move up but if you press left the board will just stop and slowly rotate left. Jumping is a guessing game, hmm will it jump when I press the button this time, nope I die again, this is fun.

Oh and there was this boss fight with Silver, it had to be the biggest piece of s*** fight in history. He can telekinetically grab you and throw you which makes you lose your rings, you can't move at all during the whole animation, you are totally helpless. The problem is many times he will just grab you a second time before you can even move again to get a ring and he kills you without you even being able to move. Its f***ing retarded!

At some point in the game I died in a level and found out the game does not let you continue from the level, you need to load a save. Well my save was about an hour back after I had done all the city s**t you had to do to get to the level, go f*** yourself Sonic team!

The only enjoyment I have had from the game is this one level that had lots of grinding around a giant ruined city. Luckily the grinding works well, guess that one was to simple to screw up. The level design in this stage was great, it was visually impressive, there were moments of coolness where you are jumping from building to building, twisting and turning on rails, it was good design. But the game still controls like a buggy pile of garbage. If this game just controlled like SA 1 or 2 it would be a very decent game.

I can't believe this s*** shares the same name of one of the all time greatest games. Everyone at Sonic team should be arrested for robbery, charging $60 for this should be a crime.

I can't believe the PS3 version is 2 months behind the Xbox 360 version, and they fixed NOTHING.

I also cannot belive that, not only did Dave Halverson of Play Magazine continue his policy of defending Sonic the Hedgehog every month, he actually gave it BEST ACTION PLATFOROM GAME OF 2006, saying "Some of the most exhilarating gameplay ever seen on any system."

That is a direct quote.

Oh, he also gave it MOST UNDERRATED GAME OF 2006.

He then goes on to say he would have given it GAME OF THE YEAR if there was no loading time.

Feb 2007 issue. I normally respect people's opinions, but Dave, this game is broken.

SHOTEH FOCK OP said:
Feb 2007 issue. I normally respect people's opinions, but Dave, this game is broken.

Thats insane, the only way I can believe a sane person is thinking that way is if they are getting paid or they are blind. The game is broken, aanyone that has played any amount of decent games can see this.

One month, Halverson addressed this issue in the letter section.

He defended his stance on the game by simply stating, "Hey, I like me some mascot platformers" or something like that.

I admit, that genre has been sorely lacking for the past couple of years but...come on, that's no reason to praise an absolute turd like this. I want Sonic too, but not half-assed Sonic....or even...uh...1/10-assed Sonic, or whatever the hell you want to call this.

Sega deserves no congratulations for this mess. They deserve all of this negative publicity. They did this. They're the ones who allowed their once cherished franchise to plummet into the depths of Hell. Any reprecusions that occur to them or this franchise as a direct result of the shittiness of thier games post-Dreamcast are well-deserved.

Dave Halverson deserves the neg. publicity as well. It's one thing to say he liked the game. But....he gave the game a 9.5.

A 9.5.

Mindblowing.

It just still blows my mind that this game sucks so hard. I'm a huge platformer fan, so I desparately wanted this to be even passable (even hoping the PS3 version would be a little improved). I buy a ton of games, and given how few PS3 games there are and my love of platformers, I would buy it if it even had a modicum of goodness, but it really sounds like it is totally broken. Unbelievable.
